Your framed 'little white things' are casts of Greek and Roman intaglios - carved cameos or gems that were worn as finger rings, signet rings and cameos by the ancient Greeks and Romans, like the Gemma Augustea. Being Greek/Roman they of course carry classical, mythological or historical scenes. Josiah Wedgwood was influenced by them. The casts were made out of fine clay and were a more cost effective way to study and collect the intaglios without actually owning the original. Great video. Cheers.
I lived close to Lauriston Castle in the 1960s. Silverknowes Crescent to be exact. My friend, also from the Crescent had a part time job cleaning the Castle. I visited her there once and heard of Blue John for the first time. Ever since, when I hear Blue John mentioned, I think of Lauriston Castle.
I visited as an eleven year old ,my most memorable impression was when the guide opened the bookcase door to reveal the passage behind the grounds too , we’re very impressive This was 1951 !
Great video, Rhi! Your passion always shines through. And yes, a video on the Blue John phenomenon would be very interesting. I hope you get to explore and share more historical sites in the future!
