As of June 25 2024 The Peter Potamus Show has returned to broadcast television for the first time in at least 4 decades. It's part of the MeTV Toons Network. The show is airing weekday mornings at 11AM/Eastern and Saturday Afternoons at 3:30 PM/ Eastern. The series is running in its original broadcast order. Supporting segments are Breezly and Sneezly and The Goofy Guards ( Yippee, Yappy , and Yahooey) . The show is airing the way it did after its ABC run. No Ideal Toy Company Sponsorship, curtain call, or Screen Gems production logo. Consult your local listings.
Just discovered this show on MeTV Toons. Thought the theme was saying "R.I.D." the first few times, and wondered what that stood for. Of course, the original sponsored intro (seen here) makes it more obvious what they're actually saying.
The Hippo Hurricane Holler could be an X-Men superpower, comparable to Storm's power. I haven't seen this show since I was a kid in the early 1970s. Now, I want to look for them on TH-cam. Good memories.

Ideal sponsored the series in first-run syndication from September 1964 through August 1966....and was a co-sponsor on ABC's Sunday morning schedule in the 1966-'67 season.
@@Mattcai2004 i find his cameo a little distracting in my opinion but jabberjaw is also distracting when I look at him but I think Peter Potamus was fine
Thanks for uploading this. The only thing missing is the Screen Gems "dancing sticks" production logo at the end. It's so rare to see the full IDEAL sponsorship w/ the entire unedited opening & closing credits.
Russ The Troubadour I believe that the entire unedited opening and closing credits are from the Complete Series DVD release (in fact, the trailer for the DVD did have the IDEAL sponsorship opening). I have yet to get the set...but when I do, I'll see if I can find any extra tidbits to upload here :)
DLCOrganization I got this from KissCartoon, namely the first episode. Judging by the quality, I'd say that this was from the DVD release. Regarding the closing, it closed out like that on its own. I'm not sure if the original uploader did that or if Warner Bros. did. Like I said, I have yet to buy the DVD, but I do plan on doing a proper review of it when I get the chance.
Am I the only one who thinks this may have been a partial inspiration for Peter Griffin? Seth McFarland was a huge Hanna Barbera fan so it wouldn’t surprise me.
I came up in the 70s and 80s and had no idea Peter Potamus had his own show? I always caught him ans so so on the Magilla Gorilla Show along with Pumpkin Puss and Mush Mouse. WPIX channel 11 in NYC was the place to be after school!
Huh, odd how this show has the original sponsor parts in the DVD release, but other shows like Yogi Bear and Quick Draw McGraw don't seem to have their sponsorships officially resurface.
Virgin Jellystone Peter Potamus < Chad OG Peter Potamus. No doubt about it. This Peter Potamus is a true gentleman, unlike his creepy "nice guy" counterparts.
Sony Pictures Television will release their closing outro pasted over the Screen Gems dancing sticks closing logo at the end of The Peter Potamus Show’s first season (1964 - 1965) if Sony Pictures Entertainment ever get the rights to the Peter Potamus show produced by Hanna - Barbera Production and then use the “S” from Hell from season 2 of the show (1965 - 1966) followed by the Sony Pictures Television closing outro logo
He went from exploring the world to being an anime fan.
60 years later and he still looking for that thing he sent birdman
The Peter Potamus I know would never just fly past a room full of beauties without paying a visit...
They weren’t female hippos.
That's what I'm talking about.
He still serenaded to them.
That's more tamer than what his other counterparts would do.

I love watching reruns of this classic cartoon show! I was born in 1978. I love the theme song! Thank you for posting and sharing this!
0:19-0:24 HEY HA-HAS! YOU’RE HIRED!!!
I'm 68 now, and I find that many of my friends missed Peter Potamus entirely, while I still remember the theme song.
Peter Potamus had a show of his own (also appearing in Yogi's Gang, Yogi's Treasure Hunt), before he became one of Harvey Birdman's co-workers.
This is totally different closing to Peter Potamus from the one I usually see
He of the Hippo Hurricane Holler! Fabulous quality. Watched in MCMLXIV. Damn......I'm old.
It's time to meet Peter Potamus, R.I.D.!!
RINGO!! You know it's "our ideal"! They even mention Ideal Toys in this version, which is why they sang that!!
Pure Gold!
1:47 - "Look out!" and then... the "Onie Wheeler" train whistle!
Let be honest here, You never knew he had his own cartoon show until after watching Harvey Birdman!
I always wonder why he has a balloon???

Peter Potamus was a good cartoon.
I personally like Peter Potamus over Magilla Gorilla.
Wow that's awesome!!
I used to watch this on cartoon Network and boomerang
Haaaa😢😢😢😢😢 i love peter
Never seen this cartoon but I definitely heard of it. I wish I had boomerang so I can see all the greatest H-B cartoons.
GraphicDesigner518 Luckily for you, Warner Archive released this whole series on DVD :)
Was the series only purpose to sell Ideal toys similar to Magilla Gorilla? (Ironically, Ricochet Rabbit & Droop-a-Long later appear in this series.)
A cartoon that was made to advertise a toy brand instead of a cartoon advertising a toy line.
This is true. What a letdown! I loved the lyric " out ideal" not realizing it advertised Ideal toys, which were definitely #2 to Mattel.
Magilla wasn't spared from this too
All that was missing was the Screen Gems logo to seal it off.
This hippo definitely watches anime
and sends things to lawyers
