Only because American audiences have such limited imaginations that they can't conceive of a science fiction show other than those 2 franchises. "Mobile Suit Gundam" first aired April 7th, 1979, just a couple years after Star Wars, and most likely was in production before Star Wars released. It's brand of science fiction is VASTLY different from anything American, focusing it's story on the hardships and tragedy of war...and sadly, the stories told are just as relevant today as it was 40 years ago. Just a thought, but if you are going to cover pop culture, you MIGHT want to have a journalist that will at least do some basic research before writing a story on it...or, even better, have someone who already knows about what they are covering to do the story.
