Not exactly. He pinpointed parts of the field where he could hit a boundary. Then if a ball couldn't be hit to those points of the ground, then he stroked a single. His teammates say this, and also, how in important series Bevan would often be asked to address the team to give pointers about batting in the final 10-15 overs of an innings.

Except that’s NOT in the minds of the Australian supporters, whereby thinking we’re still in with a chance when Michael Bevan walks out to the crease. This very game against the West Indies in Sydney 1996 was the perfect example of that. Australia should never of won that particular game. It was embarrassing to see Australia was 7 for 73 (something like that) when Bevan came to the crease. No-one would think less of the man if he bowled for a duck as the batters before him had failed. With such a large score to chase down would be daunting, let alone even a thought in other players head. But not Bevan. Regardless of the odds against he would prevail. I cannot count how many times Bevan has saved the Australian team for crucial losses that transferred into final wins. Bevan in my mind remains as one of; or if not the best all rounder that ever played for Australia. Michael Bevan in the world of cricket is a living legend!

Michael Bevan was my childhood hero. I used to hope the top order would crumble just so I could watch him bat and more often than not, save Australia. When I was 19 he came to the golf course I worked at. I was by myself in the pro shop when he arrived and I knew instantly who he was. He got a drink, made a comment about the score in the cricket (as I was watching the test match on the mounted tv) and proceeded to grab a few golfing accessories ahead of his round. He was really nice and down to earth, even before I told him that there was no way I was charging such a legend any form of green fee.

When I was a kid and was riveted to the TV watching odi cricket. Michael Bevan was legendary at chasing scores down. Great memories.
