Thank you so much. You are so kind and encouraging and supportive. I can’t tell you what it means to me. I’m glad you enjoy listening to all these things that I love to go on and on about!!!!!!😘
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I love to hear self taught people as they are rather passionate about what they love. Granted I know professionals who too are passionate about fibers. Passion is passed on in the presentation. I think I may need to get my hands on the 2 books you shared with us. Pretty sure the wearable prints needs to be in my hands. I’m a quilter who loves the 19th century fabrics. I’m currently stitching on Elizabeth Oliver 1847 and I’ve never stitched so many shades of yellow and green in all my life. They aren’t exactly my favorite colors but I’m finding joy in the stitch. I think they are growing on me!
I love how I always learn something new whenever I get to spend time with you! Thank you Susan!❤ Right now I'm working on the Eunice Bacon sampler based on a handkerchief from 1837 found in the "A Schoolroom Alphabet: 12 cross stitch projects based on an antique handkerchief" book I got at The Attic and the colors are definitely connected to the indigo and Prussian blue dyes you spoke about!
I know exactly which Sampler you are referring to and I’m going to pull that book out right now! Thank you so much for making that connection and sharing it with me. Thank you too for commenting watching and all of your support.
Great video. Very interesting information. What a beautiful doll quilt. Thimble pattern wonderful. The book you shared looks very nice. Thanks so much! ⭐️⭐️📗📗
What a wonderful video, Susan! I continue to enjoy and learn so much from each and every episode. Thank you for sharing your research and knowledge and your continuing inspiration! 🪡🧵❤️
Hi Susan! I like your little Tumbler block doll quilt. How cute! What a fun way to display a little bit of all of those fabrics too. Loved your fabric parade. I hope you will do more of those! I bought the book quilts in a material world. Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve got my eye on the other book as well. Always great to see your episodes!
Thank you Padma I’m so glad to see you! Or should I say hear from you!?? I’m so glad you enjoyed the fabric parade and I hope you are getting lots of Stitching and sewing done. Let me know if your new book turns out to be a winner I would love to know the title.
Susan, Thank you for another great video. You add so much value to our community through your willingness to share your knowledge. Take care my stitchy friend. Best, K
Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments!!!!! I love sharing and I am super happy to have you joining me! Hope you are stitching something today! 😀
Susan this was so informative and perfect for me to share with all of my costume friends! I love any and all discussion about color and I will be really paying attention to my samplers and referring back to this to ponder whilst stitching! I really appreciate the detail and prep work you did... It helps to see actual fabric squares based on reproduction colors. I love the yellow greens and now I know why... I love all the 1830 and 40's samplers! Your Hannah is going to be a show stopper! Love from California!!
Hi there my friend we definitely need to have another chat about fabric and color and all these fun Stitchie things! 1820 to 1840 is my happy place for sure. I hope you are doing well and getting lots of time to stitch. It was great to hear from you!!!!!😍😘
Such an interesting talk, Susan! I loved the history of color and dyes! One might wonder why there were so many unknown sicknesses in the 19th century and before with all those toxic items used for mordant! My husband said he once read that mercury was used to bond hats - hence the phrase "mad as a hatter". When I began quilting way back when - I was drawn to Civil War prints from the get-go. I really love the cheddars (although I'm not certain those colors are really period) and especially the indigos. I give away a lot of my scraps, but never any of my Civil Wars! Hugs, Candace
Thank you so much for your comment! I totally agree that it was a toxic world in the textile realm 100+ years ago!!!!We are so lucky we can enjoy the color without the poisonous chemicals I also love that you are a cheddar in Indigo champion. That is one of my favorite combinations as well. I’m glad you saved your fabric and I hope you are still quilting 😀
I'm so behind my Flosstube viewing but yours is one I always download to watch when I get a chance. I never thought about when cotton fibers became available but assumed that the earlier samplers done in silk must have been done by girls whose families could afford silk. Thanks for this informative presentation.
Hi Susan! Another fascinating visit and a new book purchased! actually like new for $8! yay because of you I have an amazing library begining on this wonderful topic! Quilts in a material world looks awesome. Gosh I missed your last video so off I go to the last one…Yay a double header! I have been cutting up my little scraps into tumbler block among other things! So fun to see yout thimble block and those tiny hexies!!! oh my! take care till next time Nd happy stitching!
Such a great episode, Susan! I always love sitting and stitching with you but the history of color and dye is just such a fascinating subject. And your pincushion! Absolutely to die for, your Cuyana case will definitely be the best outfitted, most stylish case around...
Thank you for watching Katie. I think the only thing better would be to stitch face to face in the same room!!!!! I’m pretty sure your favorite color green involves a lot of toxic elements!!!! I am having fun with the Cuyana case and you are the one who stated it all!!!
Always, always lovely to see you. I feel so happy when I see that you have posted a video and this was another fantastic episode. I came prepared with a pencil and notebook and I’m so glad I did! Yes please share your doll quilt displays and love your travel case!
Thank you Amy !!!!So lovely to hear from you and I’m glad that you find things worth writing down! I do the exact same thing when I’m watching floss tube 😝I actually have a dedicated notebook lol
Informative and useful as usual. I was especially interested in your “Tess” box. I’ve ordered a red leather vintage jewelry case. I want red to match my red Cohana scissors. I’d really like to have the red Cohana box Nichola showed but I can’t find it. I bought a chatelaine from Thimbles for you at the Daytona AQS Quilt show in Feb. I tried to comment last video but my comments were lost. I will post photos on Instagram and tag you soon. I am thrilled with the beauty and function of those little tools.
Oh I’m so thrilled that you bought some beautiful pieces from Thimbles for you! You will not regret it. I’m not sure about Nicola’s box. So many people are using so many sources. I am really happy with mine it will hold just what I need for travel. Stay tuned as I add pieces!!!!!
Another interesting, wonderful FlossTube Susan! Thank you sharing such great information. Do you know the name of the painting of the women placing linen in the sun to bleach?
