Just because you're not aware of DOD running lancer mags doesn't mean they aren't. SOCOM, Rangers, Secret Service, countless LE Agencies WORLDWIDE, Entire Government Agencies have run and still run lancer magazines. Lancer magazines are HUGE in Canada. Lancer also developed the original magazine that was intended to be issued with the Sig Spear/XM5 - winner of the Army NSGW contract before they were pushed aside after they decided they were going to manufacture their own magazine that's now underperforming. As a combat veteran of the GWOT - I have experienced first-hand the garbage quality that is magpul magazines. In country - I threw out my magpul mags and used my old GI Mags due to the fact that I refused to downgrade my fully loaded mags from 30 rounds to 29 or 28 so I could load at the closed bolt position. That being said - I am not a lancer fanboy. To this day - I run my old mags. By MY PREFERENCE. ALL magazines exhibit round pop out, tolerance stack issues when loading from the closed bolt etc - for tons of different reasons. I've experienced those issues WAY LESS than I have with Pmags. Never with Lancer mags. Again - I run these GI mags by preference and due to my personal experiences. Most reliably - They have never failed me. Also - You mentioned that lancer magazines seemed like cheap plastic. Plastics that are OPAQUE in color are inherently more dense. Translucent plastics are less dense. Lancer makes opaque magazines that are slightly heavier and more dense. Magpuls new Translucent magazines? You can literally touch the feed lips together because they're so malleable. Lastly - Lancer was formed due to government needs... Inherently - Lancer would not be around if SOCOM didn't start asking around for translucent magazines that still upheld the reliability that steel magazines offer... hence its hybrid build - polymer body and steel feed lips.
The Lancer mags are flexible to absorb shock, if dropped. I’ve seen videos of PMAGS cracking because it lacks the same flexibility as the Lancer and ETS mags.
4:15 military contracts have changed throughout the years. Alot of politics get involved, and overall cost determines the winner. An example is the M17 contract in USA, and Haenel contract in Germany.
Bought lancers and pmags. (Not the translucent version) Love my lancers zero issues. Translucent = thin plastic, get the non translucent version and they are STRONG. pre covid buys. flawless in my solgw blaster.
Best bang for the buck that MEETS THE SPEC. You can argue whether the requirements are sufficient or not, but everyone saying "lowest bidder" are completely leaving out the full sentence. I mean, how else would you have it? Would you rather your tax dollars go towards an item, but also meets the spec but costs twice a much? Once again, the issue is the stringency (or lack thereof) of what an item has to go through to be considered in the first place. This is all neither here nor there assuming the mag functions in your rifle. Unless you're shooting out barrels every few years, this is all academic. Most people spend more time arguing on the internet that actually shooting.
My only gripe about the pmags are that they are too fat. Makes it a pain to run in mag pouches. No issues with the high speed stuff but for older LBE style rigs it does stick out more than I'd like.
I’ve shot thousands of rounds through Magpul, Duramag and Still have many see through Lancer mags in their bags as I only use them at the range. IMO, Magpul magazines are #1 then comes SS Duramag. If you don’t believe me try this, take a fully loaded Lancer magazine and while holding it up right with your left hand and smack it with your right hand palm from the bottom as if reinserting a loaded mag, watch bullets fly out of the magazine. It’s exactly what happened to me at the range. My Magpuls have been through hell and back and would 100% trust them along with Duramags for my AR15’s but ONLY Magpul for my AR10’s as they’ve been the most secure fit out of them all.
Interesting? Do you keep the pmags loaded, and how long have you left them loaded without issue? I’ve had some 40 round pmags filled for a couple of years. Do you think the lips are ok?
Sorry for the delay, YES! I keep my 40’s loaded since 2014 (10 years) with zero issues. I highly recommend Duramag SS and Magpul M3 as I keep at least 40 fully loaded with 77 grain otm’s. If you’ve got a lancer, load it fully and smack it on the bottom and watch rounds fly out which has always given me feeding issues on practicing prone. Only mags that I’ve never had issues with are the Duramags and Magpul M3’s. The M2’s are ok but don’t have the added over insertion stop like the M3’s have which can lead to issues as a duty mag.
Lancer mags also "go on sale for 50% $11" and yes they are in qutation marks because that shows how much of a profit margin they are making on those mags so is it a sale or their true price? and the military using the PMAG does a lot of stress test and tell me 1 person whos had a PMAG fail them during service. I do own both and have not had any issues with either but just keep in mind Lancers can be had for $11 if you wait.
Not necessarily. Adding the metal feed lips is an extra materiel and process in manufacturing. If Pmags are molded in one go, your production parts can actually be quite a bit cheaper. But, without knowing more about their manufacturing, I can't be sure. Just speaking from some professional experience with designing manufactured parts.
I have had multiple failures from Pmags ranging from cracks to feedlips issues from storage. I have a dozen Lancers that i tried to break and they all still work flawlessly. $21 vs $17 for a good rifle mag is pretty petty to complain about.
I use both of these mags. Both are great. The Lancer has more durable feed lips. Translucent is better for seeing capacity than that narrow little window on Magpuls. Street prices at many online stores on Lancer mags- even in translucent colors- are much lower than the prices stated in this video. Finally, the author's opinion of "what others think of Lancer mags" is a false premise.
yeah its my opinion on the matter at the end of the day, metal feedlips still have the issue of becoming damaged and staying damaged, PMAGS feed lips can flex under abuse and go back to its original position, or will crack and still function and replaced when able.
i'm not sure about that, lancer feedlips will flex as well, if you hit the bottom of the loaded lancer magazine it'll sprew rounds out as well. Both magazine seem good, but I'm confident in saying the magpul is better
The lancers being flexible to me is a plus. They aren’t flexible enough to cause issues, but they also don’t crack. The magpuls crack right behind the feedlips going down the magazine almost every time. I threw three away that did that. The same three also wouldn’t lock back on empty. I now run Okay surefeeds almost exclusively. Never had a single problem out of the 25 or so I’ve used. Also, military contracts don’t really mean much. Look at the current issue handguns of the Army and Marine Corps. I own a p320, but they definitely should have went with a glock 17 or 19. Lol
the surefeeds are nice magazines, I have the e2 and the nicest aluminium magazines I have, The gen 3 pmags are very strong the gen 2 have been known to crack under abuse
Did you have m3 pmags? Also the feed angle for m855a1 might be enough for the contract in itself. I don’t think the lancer has a feed angle as low as a usgi but the m3 has the highest angle which is good for the m855a1
The Gen M3 addressed the cracking down the spine. If you watched Magpuls testing between MOE Gen 2 and Gen M3. Gen M3 are way better. I'm a fan of the Surefeeds, Gen M3's and Duramags.
Lancer mags can get stuck, that metal lip sometimes is out of spec and won't slide out Cool part about Lancer mags they will ship you the label and will replace the mag for free. I returned mine and they got them back to me working P-Mags don't get stuck in most cases, but can happen too
@@FloridaMan762 I like the texture, they load a little bit easier because of the feed lips, it's very convenient being able to see exactly how many rounds, and it just edges out the PMAGS for me I've shot pmags my whole life I've just now started getting Lancers there's really no bad choice
I tend to agree with most of your arguments. An aside, it seems as though the Ukrainians are using GI aluminum, PMAGs (windowed and non-windowed) and Lancers (both opaque and translucent) in their AR-type rifles from the photos coming out of there. I guess they're using whatever they can get. 🤷♂

Winning a military contract doesn’t mean it’s the best. It means they are “good enough”. Are PMAGs the best? They might be, and they might not be. But a military contract doesn’t automatically mean they’re the best. Similar to mil-spec ARs. Just because a BCG is mil-spec, doesn’t mean it’s the best. It means it’s “good enough”. There are BCGs out there that aren’t mil spec but are much better quality than mil-spec. And don’t even get me started on the Glock vs Sig thing. We all know that if military contracts meant they were getting the best product, they would have chosen the 19x. 🤷♂️
@@FloridaMan762what metric is used to say something is milspec? Milspec means something is designed a certain way, made of certain materials, and tested a certain way. If a BCG undergoes more refined testing and made of better materials, it could be better than milspec.

I do believe the magpul PMAG is better while also being low cost, cheaper then the lancer
Good info, really enjoyed, thanks
Bought lancers and pmags. (Not the translucent version) Love my lancers zero issues. Translucent = thin plastic, get the non translucent version and they are STRONG. pre covid buys. flawless in my solgw blaster.
That's cool how you disguised your voice with a cartoon voice.
Military will always go with the best bang for the buck (Cheaper option) but both great mags and great video.
I'd say the pmag is cheaper and better
If that was the case they would be shooting high points instead of Daniel defense
My Magpuls have been through hell and back and would 100% trust them along with Duramags for my AR15’s but ONLY Magpul for my AR10’s as they’ve been the most secure fit out of them all.
yeah if the lancer magazine is in the gun and you smack it, you'll include a jam if the bolt is open
The M2’s are ok but don’t have the added over insertion stop like the M3’s have which can lead to issues as a duty mag.
have both and ill use both. street cost they are the same price. I prefer the translucent of the L5. will have to check out the new tmag.
Hi, I am the one who had a pmag fail on them during service.
We had issues with pmags falling out of rifles, but those were gen 2 window pmags
I have had multiple failures from Pmags ranging from cracks to feedlips issues from storage. I have a dozen Lancers that i tried to break and they all still work flawlessly. $21 vs $17 for a good rifle mag is pretty petty to complain about.
I used pmags professionally, in both Mil and LE for nearly a decade no issues, you've had cracked pmag feedlips from storage?
@@FloridaMan762 The force required to adequately damage Lancer's steel feed lips would CRACK Magpul's feedlips.
i'm not sure about that, lancer feedlips will flex as well, if you hit the bottom of the loaded lancer magazine it'll sprew rounds out as well.
Both magazine seem good, but I'm confident in saying the magpul is better
@@FloridaMan762 I'm confident saying the Lancer feedlips are definitely more durable.
You make a decent case. I pretty much have bought into the lancer hype, I also have p mags, stainless steel and aluminum.
thank you, its my opinion buy I laid out my rational on why the pmag is superior
I bet you can't do that with a full clip. 😊
@@DutchK75nope. The 3 mags I was referring to were windowed mct gen m3. The current issue mag
I prefer Okay industries USGI
Well, the Lancer mag did flex a lot and not break. So there’s that
Actually, wouldn't cheap plastic be brittle and not resilient. That Lancer mag didn't deform when you were bending it.
Lancer mags can get stuck, that metal lip sometimes is out of spec and won't slide out
Cool part about Lancer mags they will ship you the label and will replace the mag for free.
I returned mine and they got them back to me working
P-Mags don't get stuck in most cases, but can happen too
I own both I love Lancers way more than pmags I just think they're better all around
what makes the lancer better?
@@FloridaMan762 I like the texture, they load a little bit easier because of the feed lips, it's very convenient being able to see exactly how many rounds, and it just edges out the PMAGS for me I've shot pmags my whole life I've just now started getting Lancers there's really no bad choice
@@FloridaMan762 my favorite PMAG is the Gen 3 with window they're so close to the same cost
I watched a guy on TH-cam,drop his AR on the ground with loaded Lancer and Magpul magazines. The MagPul's broke open every time. The lancer magazines held strong every time.
theres more metrics to a good magazine then a random drop test
@@FloridaMan762 Every torture test I've seen,Lancer is equal or sometimes better than Magpul or Colt. Also, your usage of the word: then ; is incorrect.

@@FloridaMan762to answer you’re question it’s mostly used by special operations and DOHS agencies. However it was in the military trails when the GI mags were getting replaced Pmag were neck in neck but won military trials all because of cost. Magpul is $15 and the lancer can range anywhere from 20-24 dollars. Most units actually like the lancer cause it was the hybrid of the GI mags, but due to cost and how cheap the government is they went with magpul the gen 3

I own both brands and would trust my life either of them.
Final thought: Any magazine can be destroyed. Carry backups as needed.
I get my lancer mags for $16-$18 on gun mag warehouse
prices vary, I used retail price to make it simple
I'll take the Lancers that are solid black (not the translucent ones like you have) every day of the week. I have, and use, both, but prefer the Lancers ... especially when they go on sale.
As far as military testing, well, explain your logic to the Sig M17/18 vs Glock people and see what happens.
Everyone has their reasons. They both feed flawlessly till they break. Gucci for me every time.
what does the lancer do better then the magpul?

Put a loaded pmag into your rifle and drop your rifle to the ground. Your pmag will split open. Put a loaded lancer mag into your rifle and drop your rifle to the ground. Your lancer mag will NOT split open.
try the bump test with lancer vs Magpul. you fill the mag and slam the bottom on a table, lancer throws out rounds with little effort, magpul you gotta hit hard to do that. this means in a combat situation and you have to hit the dirt Lancers may throw rounds in your rig. I sold my lancers at a pawn shop and only use Magpul or Hexmags now. they don't drop rounds often.
Yep lancers, are known to do this.

Personally I’m not going to take gun advice from someone who unironically runs an SBR (inferior ballistics)
All I know is, all other things being equal, PMags are always less expensive... Therefore, when I pick up new mags at my LGS, it's always Magpul
the cost is one of the many reasons I prefer the PMAG
It makes me laugh guys will argue over these two mags and people still regularly use usgi mags 😂. Unfortunately the jury is still out for longevity of the pmags and lancers.. the m3 pmags appear to be stronger than the gen 2 from testing. I got a awm l5 years ago when they were a newer mag and had some friction issues using steel cased ammo (steel cased on metal feed lips this happened with usgi mags sometimes too) after that I didn’t use them for years.. but now they’re one of my favorites along with pmags and usgi
aluminum isn't my preference, you can damage the feedlips and cause feeding issues for example and not even know that its damaged, I have alot of uses aluminum mags for range use mostly
Military contracts are not really a thing to take into consideration. I mean look how they took the crappy Sig p320/M17/M18, if you run out of granades, just throw the gun loaded into the trenches.😂😂😂😂 But i preffer MagPul.
compared too... what? military contracts > no military contracts
the solid color lancer mags dont bend like that. translusent is garbage besides maybe the new magpul t-mags.
Dude really goes from "I dont wanna trash this magazine" to "when I think of lancer magazine, I think of it as a gimmick" in less than a minute.
Now I m fairly new to ARs and I m in no way shape or form a Lancer fanboy, I m actually currently searching the internet for comparisons and reviews. But you sound more like a Magpul salesman than an unbiased reviewer.
I own 3 pmags and they run well, I own one Lancer and it runs well, but you cant just dismiss the steel feedlips as Pmags are known for feedlips issues after a single drop.
In one of the comments you asked what torture testing there was that supports the Lancer over Pmag so here is one:
th-cam.com/video/NpEOrTbzceo/w-d-xo.html
I have a better torture test, wanna read?
The USMC chose the PMAG because in multiple rounds of testing at Aberdeen over several years, it was best. In the end, the GEN M3 PMAG was the most reliable commercial or government magazine tested by a very, very large margin, and passed all TOP 03-02-045 durability and environmental tests. In the USMC tests, the Lancer L5AWM finished dead last, with multiple ammunition types in the test, not just M855A1. Those test results were published, and you can find them online. Later rounds of testing, including one round of tests that went to 250,000 rounds through PMAGs convinced Army to approve the SEP proposal and fully approve fielding the M3 with regular magazine funds. SOCOM approved as an authorized user when USMC did. AirForce adopted, as did Coast Guard and NSW. Last round of testing was over 30,000 rounds between magazine-related stoppages for the M3.
London metro has pretty much ditched the Lancers due to reliability issues. They are now issuing 300BLK PMAGs going forward. Poland is going to M3. The Netherlands is ditching Lancer and going M3. Estonia looked at test data and chose PMAGs. The French tested and want PMAGs--although we'll see if HK strongarms them with the 416 buy. The Brits will continue with M3 after the EMAGs are gone. The data is hard to ignore, and coupled with a very satisfied USMC, and dissatisfied Lancer users, lots of folks are becoming M3 users, even if they gave Lancer a try.
Lancer makes good magazines.
great comparison 👍🏼
Thanks man
You can't compare a product that is made out of different plastics
what metric is used then to say that a non mil spec is better then? in comparison Mil- spec > non mil spec
@@FloridaMan762what metric is used to say something is milspec?
Milspec means something is designed a certain way, made of certain materials, and tested a certain way. If a BCG undergoes more refined testing and made of better materials, it could be better than milspec.
Just became team Magpul vs Amend2 after seeing the temp issues on Mod2 Amend2 mags. AR recreation shooter. Far from a pro.

Literally impossible you bent the lancer metal feed lips as they use spring steel. Only way your bending those is your sticking them in a vise a crushing them lol

I’ve read plenty of reviews that people like Lancer magazines and even though I’ve yet to buy one I’ll avoid your opinions and lastly who cares about Magpul being used by the military. That doesn’t say much.
Well. the research, the testing, going into a military product and then being validated by being adopted is a big deal
Lancer mags are more of a novelty item, not 100% reliable but Magpuls have been 100% reliable.

can you share your experience? I've never had to warranty any magpul products before
Let me start by saying I used to bleed Magpul, wore their hats and t-shirts daily. They should have paid me for the advertising and recommendations.
I have purchased thousands of dollars on Magpul products for my AR15, AR10, SGA, Sights, apparel, hats, gloves, decals, and probably more than a thousand dollars on mags and drums alone.
I purchase two pair of shooting sunglasses and literally had them fall apart while wearing them. I have other sunglasses that are 25 years old and they haven't fallen apart.
Magpul has admitted that it is a manufactures defect but refused to replace, refund or even give me a partial discount. They said “glue them back together. LOL…..
Magpul would rather loose a life long loyal customer over a few dollars. They are idiots in my opinion. This is why I will never purchase anything form Magpul ever again.
