    Absolutely loved this interview. My love for this era will never fade, I always revisit it and especially enjoy behind the scenes stuff from that time. Having confidential on iPlayer is brilliant.

    for those wondering this is a collection of numerous interviews (hence varying quality in audio) that RTD did for Toby Hadokes "Whos Round" podcast for Big Finish. If you enjoyed this go listen to the rest as theres one with Moffat and ones with other writers plus actors and directors from throught the 60 year run

    I absolutely love this interview, and I love RTD. He should be a Knight of the Realm! My only criticism (and it is a small one) is that the sound quality isn’t great. I’d like to hear Toby a little more clearly. They are both so knowledgable and articulate. A real treat. I immediately searched out ‘Moths ate my Doctor Who Scarf!’ Thank you.

      @@PapaLuge spot on mate. I would include love & monsters and fear her too. The fandom is unfair to that run of episodes because it's become fashionable to hate them.

    I don’t have a problem with the human characters in love and monsters, it’s the abzorbaloff. Setting aside the fact that he’s alien fat bastard, it’s like the jet jaguar situation but 33 years later where the kid made a design for a cool/scary monster and the people working on the show or movie said, well a kid submitted this so let’s redesign it to be more for kids. In the abzorbaloff’s case they made him campy and it’s strange to have an episode where a joke is made out of what a child thinks is scary next to an episode where the whole premise is that a child is doing all these scary drawings and they’re becoming real.

    This was such an insightful interview! You got to learn so much about the process of all 4 series of the RTD era. I always wondered about the co-writing process for the last 2 specials. RTD is my absolute hero. Loved you as an interviewer 😊

      If you havent already, you should read "The Writer's Tale" by RTD and Benjamin Cook, who wrote for doctor who magazine. It's a 700odd page email correspondence during the produciton of series 4. Vivid descriptions of what it takes to run the empire of Doctor Who, with some interesting insights into Davies' personal life and process. brilliant read!

    It's hard to believe that the man im listening to in this recording is the same man ruining Doctor Who right now! He seems so sound, self reflective and acutely aware of what the fanbase really wants from the show. Now he seems completely unhinged and disillusioned and has completely forgotten how to write DW

    • @JB-ys8ct
      @JB-ys8ct หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think one thing you have to remember is that the man hadn't written for DW in almost 20 years before he came back for the 60th specials. Most other shows he's written since have also been political dramas with a few exceptions. Maybe I'm wrong, but I also think that compared to now, back then they had WAY smaller budget meaning that they had to write the episodes with the mindset "can we afford this?" and also "what do we write to increase the ratings so the BBC give us more money?" and because of those restraints, it meant a lot more time and effort went into the scripts being made. Nowadays, the show has such a big budget that money is often literally wasted purely for the sake of it and the mindset is now "as long as we do the bare minimum to keep the show going, it's fine!".

    • @BeJaminYeh
      @BeJaminYeh หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JB-ys8ct 20 years? Where are you getting 20 years from? You're saying he last wrote for doctor who in 2002 before the show came back? what are you waffling back? His last work in the DW universe was Sarah Adventures/Miracle Day 11 years before he came back.
      He'd also written A Midsummer's Night's Dream and that is very doctor who coded.
