Right? And lumping the heat element and water chamber into the clothes steamer actually turned out cheaper and seemed safer than the ones I was trying to construct on my own.
Thanks, Austin! Same thing for me - I just really wanted to try it so I designed some chairs where I’d need it! Plus, the clothes steamer has been great for the wardrobe too haha!
I've seen similar creations, but they were metal and pumping up the internal pressure. I've been hesitant to build one because I didn't want to build a pipe bomb. This seems far more workable. Thanks.
I had the same concerns - definitely didn’t want to build up pressure. It’s a limited solution in that there’s a limit to the amount of heat you can really apply, but 200 degrees F seems like it does the trick for this lamination style and the pipe is still in fine shape!
Ooo mostly just living in the middle of the woods - but being considerate of work hours and bribing neighbors with cookies and wine has helped in the past haha
great video. thanks! You inspired me to create a similar one. i read somewhere that steam time is important. You don't want to overdo it as it weakens the wood. 1inch per hour is what i read. Do you have any ideas on that?
I like the design of the steam chamber. Approximately, how much did it cost for it and the steamer? The stool that you made looks nice. I'm looking forward to watching you build it. Thanks for this video. Stay safe.
Thanks Eddie! Good q! It was around $90 - comparably, the hot plates and other heat coils plus a durable water chamber I could cap and route to the steam chamber I was originally looking at would have actually been more expensive. So it kinda worked out great!
Hi,just found your chanel and I love your content and work! Can you tell me please how thick can you cut that wood so you can bend it properly?Thank you and keep up the good work!
A little, but not enough to lose function. While I was able to get a bend out of it, I think a more insulated upgrade is in my future for anything thicker!
Couple of Questions: 1. Do you have to add water tonthe steamer during the steam time or does it run that long on the reservoir 2. Why 2 pieces of PVC? Do you see an advantage or just using on-hand materials 3. Why rubber end cap and not a Screw-on cap? Just curious Not bashing, I think the steamer idea is great. I ruined a teapot on a gas heater trying a heat source Thanks, Brian
really good system, and nicely laid out in the video step-by-step
good editing and including all the necessary information
Well done! I'm looking forward to the next video.
Thanks 🙌🏻
That’s a lot easier than I thought. Good work and I look forward to seeing you build the stools.

nice, great idea
Yup. I'm officially jealous. I have been wanting to do steam bending for a long time and I never get around to it. Nicely done!
Haha! Trade you for your bandsaw!
I felt the same way, so I designed some chairs to create the need to start messing with this.
Nice technic boss
That's a brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Trevor!
Very cool! Something I've wanted to try one day. I like your method😎👍

Very Cool!
This is brilliant.
No you are! 🙌🏻
Seriously. I live in one bedroom apt in NYC and this is something I could put together temporarily if I needed to.

@@HonestWorkDesigns I was reading that 212°F is the right temperature to plasticize wood for bending. So, you about nailed it.
PVC pipe? this deforms as soon as you apply steam heat! how could you cope for it?
How did you bypass the timer that automatically shuts the steamer off?
How do you avoid noise complaints? Can you give us some tips?

Thank you for this vid. How much time should you let rest the wood in steam box for good bending? Thankyou

Did the pvc get soft at all?

Two fish are sitting in a tank, one looks over to the other and says 'Hey, you know how to drive this thing?'
I thought one said "I'll drive, you man the cannon!"
Cool 😂😂😂😂
Thanks, Jules! Not stupid if it works, right? Haha
@@HonestWorkDesigns it's great, the smiles are meant to represent the juxtaposition of saying that something so hot is cool, which it is. 🙂
Hahaha! I did NOT catch that! Where’s that second cup of coffee? Ha!
@@HonestWorkDesigns no worries if we didn't have pride we wouldn't do anything at all. 🙂

Thanks, Reid 🙌🏻
You mean a steam pipe ? not box -and wow --steam cleaner ! --
Coming right over from imgur, who else?
Thanks for sharing this. Good work! Now, about that porn soundtrack ... could you not?
😂 I’ll do my best
