Excellent inventory Jack. Giving anything a second life is an appreciation of product that lasts. You've done well for a beginner and this vid gives other of what's required on their first trip. Being on a budget means "travel smart not hard". We would also recommend a ground sheet for your tent for obvious reasons. Try a folding saw instead of the hatchet. Our first folding saw was grandma's pruning saw. It works untill today and lighter to carry. Great that you mention a first aid kit, just make sure it matches the environment you're in and a snake bite kit as well. Also, familiarise yourself with all medical procedures, learn how to you it on you and others that need medical attention. Hikers help each other, regardless of who they are or where they come from. We carry a multitool and a full tang knife. In time you will accumulate the necessities, untill then stay simple, stay strong and stay yourself. Lots of encouragement from Christmas Island.
Right on with the backpack! A lot of high tier brands like Osprey practically never wear out and people almost give them away on marketplace sometimes! Great way to get last year's best gear for a song.
Love the video Jack! On a recent camping trip my mate and I had packs weighing 28kgs! This didn't include a tent and we only had 2 litres of water. After spending 3 days hiking with that weight I definitely am determined to cut weight down for the future!
It’s hard to cut the weight down!! But definitely a lightweight tent and sleeping equipment can save you 2-4kg which makes a big difference on a long trek!
Hi Jack! Good vid!! Even the Aussie brands are made in China , I'm similar have got a bunch of cheap but fairly decent "online " items . Second hand osprey bag, cheap down bag ( the R ratings are dubious ) . I was really keen to start overnight hiking but i have a lot of other hobbies so wasn't keen to spend silly money on a set up, and I knew deep down it would be a few times a year at best with other life commitments. The main thing is I've been out and used it. Tent held up in some serous rain. Its western Australia not the Antarctic so i think ill be fine. I'd like to upgrade a few things but for now I'll focus on making time to get out rather than counting grams and spending. Keep up the great content .
Legend thankyou for the comment - what you said about being out there and doing it is so true, you learn as you go and can upgrade here and there. Appreciate your support mate 🙏
Enjoying the videos, mate! Good on ya for getting stuff second hand. I checked out that Avon river spot that you showed a few weeks ago. What a spot! Not much of a trail, felt super snakey, wish I'd seen some! Safe travels mate, looking forward to vid/s of the longer trip.
Legend- thanks so much! Yep I’d be hesitant to walk that trail through the warmer months 😅 Thankyou- a longer video of my 4 day trip will be out in 1-2 weeks- the support means a ton 🙏
Cheers for sharing, ive recently downsized on weight. The tent was my heaviest thing to change out, i couldnt do 2.5kgs anymore. The durston xmid 2 tent was pretty reasonably priced and only 1kg. What shoes you rocking? Are they asics trabuco's?
Epic- a tent upgrade is definitely coming particularly come summer so thanks a lot for that recommendation. Yep- I find trail runners the best and currently I’ve got some trabucos- they suit me well. I used to work in a shoe store for 4 years so I get some friendly discounts on them 😹
"Title Text Here". Love it.!!
