Yes, you can. All of the larger (Tour, Day, Cairn) Mountainsmith lumbar packs made within at least the last 20 years allow the hipbelt to be tucked away behind the ridged lumbar pad.

how much weight can be carried comfortably without the strappettes?
About 15 pounds of gear is the max for this lumbar pack without the strapettes. Thanks for watching!
