hey, just to make stuff clear, using the NNID on the target console is safe. Using the NNID on the source console will result in an error, and you can remove the NNID from the source console by going to GodMode9 -> HOME button -> Scripts... -> GM9Megascript -> Scripts from Plailects guide -> Remove NNID, and then create a new one. Why is that? Because the 3DS has an NNID linking system that ensures that an NNID is only used on one console at a time. Theres a script called cleaninty that can transfer the NNID link manually to the source console if you wish to keep it on the source console after the system transfer. Have a nice day

I believe the first step is only necessary if you're keeping the old 3ds the same. And it should work ive done 3ds to 2ds to 3ds xl to new 3ds xl and have kept everything the same

Today, 2024-02-19 Its worked again. From May 2024, support for the 3DS will also be completely discontinued. From then on the transfer will no longer work. I own 4x the N3DS-XL. So I can constantly change the card to take the save states with me. It's priceless.

Helloooooo, you probably found out by now but for some reason the old 3DS XL won't boot up with SD card storage higher than 32 GB (I have two of those and none of them wants to accept big cards so it's not just the problem of a single console). @@Blueisjr not at first, I had to create a new folder and re download all the ds games because all the rooms were corrupted. So if you want to do this just create a new folder on your sd card and download all the roms you had and copy over the saves folder to the new folder.

For anyone who's wondering I figured it out, don't transfer everything, just replace the Nintendo 3DS folder on your new one with the folder from your old one! Hope that helps!
Still would recommand doing just to make sure no data is lost, like your savefiles, since Nintendo's transfert software straight delete or completely puts the files into the wrong place. Having a backup of the old setup will help you figure stuff outt.
I’m replying to my own comment since nobody wants to chime in. In case anyone is wondering. This generally does NOT work across regions. You first have to soft mod and ensure both consoles are modded to the same region. Even after that’s done you need to make sure your eshop is not broken. If both consoles can open the eshop you should be good to go. However, it is important to be careful because things can still go wrong. This took much trial and error but eventually I did clone my US n3D-XL over to a Japan n3DS-LL. (I did this because I wanted a console that I could abuse a bit more and not worry about it getting lost or damaged without having another one to go back to. Now if anything happens to it, I won’t completely lose my mind.)
the models dont change too much from internals exept being more/less powerfull iam not sure if you can transfer a new to old but you should defenetly be able to transfer old to new

For anyone who's wondering I figured it out, don't transfer everything, just replace the Nintendo 3DS folder on your new one with the folder from your old one! Hope that helps!

in this case it's not necessary so yeah, you don't need to backup the source 3ds if you are just transferring it, in fact it what I did
Still would recommand doing just to make sure no data is lost, like your savefiles, since Nintendo's transfert software straight delete or completely puts the files into the wrong place.
Having a backup of the old setup will help you figure stuff outt.
I have a Japanese model and a US one and they won't send to eachother.

Why don't just copy all the sd card oh the source 3ds, backup the nand and then restore it directly on the traget 3ds ?
Because each nand is encrypted with its respective encryption key hard-coded on each 3ds

I’m replying to my own comment since nobody wants to chime in. In case anyone is wondering. This generally does NOT work across regions. You first have to soft mod and ensure both consoles are modded to the same region. Even after that’s done you need to make sure your eshop is not broken. If both consoles can open the eshop you should be good to go. However, it is important to be careful because things can still go wrong. This took much trial and error but eventually I did clone my US n3D-XL over to a Japan n3DS-LL.
(I did this because I wanted a console that I could abuse a bit more and not worry about it getting lost or damaged without having another one to go back to. Now if anything happens to it, I won’t completely lose my mind.)

@@devilsaur Yes you can. You just have some additional hoops to jump through as outlined in my previous comment. It is not a simple process.

to duplicate it, yes. Because everything is deleted when the source finishes the transfer so you restore it with the backup.

the models dont change too much from internals exept being more/less powerfull
iam not sure if you can transfer a new to old but you should defenetly be able to transfer old to new
