Großer Zapfenstreich für Herrn Generalleutnant Frank Leidenberger.
Zur Würdigung der Leistungen seiner Dienstzeit wurde Herr Generalleutnant Frank Leidenberger nach 46 Dienstjahren am 28. August 2023 mit einem Großen Zapfenstreich unter der Leitung vom Generalinspekteur der Bundeswehr, Herrn General Carsten Breuer, in den Ruhestand verabschiedet.
Es kommandiert der Kommandeur des Wachbataillons, Oberstleutnant Domrich. Das Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr spielt unter der Leitung von Oberstleutnant Kiauka.
Der Marsch Nr. 1 in F-Dur (WoO 18) von Ludwig van Beethoven, bekannt als Yorckscher Marsch oder Marsch des Yorckschen Korps (Armeemarsch II, 103; Armeemarsch II, 37; Heeresmarsch II, 5), ist einer der berühmtesten deutschen Militärmärsche. 1813 wurde der Marsch zu Ehren des preußischen Generals Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg benannt.

Großer Zapfenstreich ceremony is what keeps today's German military tradition alive, and some are trying to bring an end to it simply out of excuse of it being similar to Nazism which is not. I'm not German, but I have a feeling that this tradition must be preserved at all cost.
Its making me sad how leftist uneducated germans try to destroy our history by comparing everything with nazism. We cant even display old flags without someone crying in a corner...
If you remove every german tradition from the bundeswehr just because the nazis used it too, there would be nothing german left.

I am not German either but it feels like the German military tradition died when they disbanded NVA which not only by looks but by training, esprit-de-corps and attitudes was a continuation of the Wehrmacht without the swastikas and the reichsadler, built by the same people in many ways.
BW was too Americanized for my liking.
P.S. If you haven't, you should watch Großer Zapfenstreich of the NVA. It actually looks much more German.
@@traumvonhaiti the East German though pledging its allegiance to the Soviet Union were surprisingly "more German" in their traditions. While the western half was slowly Americanized, old German traditions without Nazism were still very much upheld in the east. These traditions ended when Germany reunified and the entire country embraced traditions of the western half. Neither Communism nor Capitalism is good. These two entities tend to divide and destroy nations across the world. Korea is a big example.

Nein, ich bin einfach nur unfähig und habe direkt vorgespult und daher die Busse zu Beginn nicht wahrgenommen.

The truth is the Zapfenstreich existed long before the Nazis, going back to Frederich the Great. It is an integral part of the Prussian military tradition. To call it anything else is idiotic. The Prusssian military traditions are still alive today in a world devoid of such things. They were copied, emulated around the world for professional armies and soldiers. Germany should not do away with them or hide them. It is part of the military traditions they should be proud of and a system that produced such great officers as Blucher, Gneisenau and Rommel. Honor to the Fatherland.

Werden die Schritte immer kürzer ? Ich habe das Gefühl das Wachbataillon bleibt stehen wenn sie noch etwas langsamer marschieren.
Mir kommt schon vor, dass beim Zapfenstreich kleinere Schritte gemacht werden als sonst bei Ehrenposten oder Ehrenformationen.
Es sind extra kleinere Schritte als bei normalen Einsätzen

Die Helme NVA waren die direkten Nachfolger des Wehrmachtshelm. Er wurde schon im WK2 zT eingesetzt.

Please, the German military is a shadow of its WWII self. Same for the English (UK) and Japanese militaries. No one is afraid of Germany, England or Japan.
As for France, they're probably the worst. Even America's military (gone Woke) has degraded big-time from what it once was. It's not looking good for "The West."

Every country has its military tradition. The German/Prussian military reaches far beyond the 12 years of the Nazi era. This a so called "grand tattoo“, the most important ceremonial performance of the German Military.
German military tradition seems to be sliced in two in 1945-1955. NVA adopted the Stechschritt, wachablösung and annual parades. Bundeswehr kept wachbattalion and plays most marches (that were abandoned in the East). Now if they would just adopt some of the NVA.... I still find the "we are modern now, stechschritt is not tactical anymore" idea rubbish and much of an excuse. SO much in the BW is not modern and not of tactical use. Ow, yes Ursala officially scrapped some songs about trees. Sigh. What a pitty.

It is a tradition from the time where electrical lightning didn’t exist and the ceremony was always held at evening/ night. So the soldiers always carried torches and continue to do so.
Stechschritt wäre eindrucksvoller als diese Tippelschrittchen ...

Deutsch ist deutsch, da interessiert es nicht ob der Schritt, die Uniform oder die Marschmusik irgend jemanden stört. Es reicht schon dass die Amerikaner die BW als Vasallenarmee aufgestellt haben und ihr den GI-Touch verpasst haben.
The goose step was never part of the "Großer Zapfenstreich" ritual.
It would be far too dangerous and also practically impossible to hold lighting torches while goose-stepping in the first place.
Even during the times of the "Wehrmacht" the goose-step was only used in parades before state guests, and there only just in front of them.
Apart from.that the "Bundeswehr" is part of the "Light Artillery" and these are never goose stepping.

not so sure the torches were necessarily a good idea considering the past history of those and parades in germany.
I'm pretty sure torches were used broadly by armies (and also everyone else before electricity became widespread) when doing things at night. This is like saying, since the Nazis wore uniforms, the bundeswehr should distance themselves from 'that era' by marching in their underwear. At a certain point, you're complaining about things that aren't remotely peculiarly associated with the Nazis.
