    This video is so helpful!! I am in college with baby #3 due towards the end of my semester… I am constantly worrying how I am going to work around taking care of baby and the normal day to day things while making sure I get my schoolwork done. Thank you so much for this video. I will be watching a few times to get all the information.

    This was super helpful! I like that you mentioned adding tasks that go towards your goals to your non-negotiables list. That's something I need to work on.

  • @theferalcollection
    @theferalcollection 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Instead of doing New Year's Resolutions, I like to have New Year's Priorities - this year was Friendship and Mental Health. So on my day-to-day non-negotiables are at least two tasks that prioritize one each. For example, send a text to someone I haven't spoken to in a while to check in as part of my Friendship priority.

    Oh I really needed this video! I'm going back to work in January for an 18 month term and am feeling very overwhelmed as I'm also trying to get an art career going and finish my non-fiction book I've been working on. I will absolutely be watching this video again.

  • @atypicalweeks

    I have a Timular. It never 'stuck'. The half letter time tracking sheet I print daily has been working for me for the last month or so. AND...tip...I find I do enough digitally to help me 'unravel' things if I forget to write them down. Between when I got a call or text or worked on a doc etc. I can retrace my steps by looking at those time stamps.

  • @SennaCrow
    @SennaCrow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You and the hubby ever switch high/low energy tasks? Him do the numbers if he enjoys it, you write his emails since writing is great?

  • @khzfilms
    @khzfilms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've got a question on planning out writing projects. If I want to write a picture book, I have no idea how long that would take. Weeks? Years? So far it's taken both of those. I want to plan the projects, but the timing is not something I can nail down.

    • @HeartBreathings
      @HeartBreathings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Creative projects are the hardest to nail down. I'll talk about this more in the livestream Saturday. Sometimes it can really help to break that bigger project down into the smaller tasks and see how long those take. Plus that can give more direction than just "write a picture book". But if you've tried that and are still struggling, it can also be helpful to give yourself outer accountability, like planning to have a piece of it finished and promising someone you're going to send it over. Another strategy is a gameboard strategy which I'll go over Sat.!

    I do need to tame my terrible habits of just going down the procrastination rabbit hole for 2023. Will start to track how much time things take me for a few weeks to try and get a good idea of what I need to plan for

    I love Pomodoro, but you don't have to do 20-25 minutes. Some people do 30 minutes. You can also tailor it. For some tasks I do 10 minutes. Others I'll set to 30 or 20. It just keeps me from getting scattered.

    Love the video! I've started using task blocks to break down my hour-long writing session each day, and have been very productive in getting words done (for some reason, an hour seemed like an impossible task each day after work, but two 25 min sprints? Easy peasy!). I downloaded Toggl while watching the video, and I may try to use it for time tracking - I've tried tracking time in the past with a pen and paper, but of course I'd get distracted and forget. Hopefully, using my phone will make it easier to track the different things I'm doing for my author career on a daily basis (alongside my full-time job). Thanks for the tips!

    I am absolutely horrible at estimating how long something takes. I often think I have magic time that will just expand to whatever I need to get done even if it's humanly impossible. 😒

    • @HeartBreathings
      @HeartBreathings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried tracking it for a month and then creating estimates from there? So much of what we do is recurring in some way! Except maybe the creative part of the writing process, which is really tough to esimate.

    • @rosannebowman2592
      @rosannebowman2592 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HeartBreathings I have a calendar that I keep of track when I work and what I do, but I'm not very detailed. However, I generally have about 90 minutes to 2 hours in the morning and about that amount of time in the evening so I have a decent idea of how long I've worked on something that day depending on if I used both blocks of time. My issue is, I can look at my manuscript and see all the revisions I need to make and blithely think I can get it done in like 2 weeks - when any thinking human being (including me in hindsight) can see that isn't possible. But I do this EVERY time! Sigh.
