I find it interesting that two middle aged guys in the 80s complained that there was not ENOUGH break dancing in a break dancing movie. A lot of parents back then would have rolled their eyes at the entire concept.
Siskel was in his late 30s and Ebert was in his early 40s... they still thought of themselves as young adults or cool dads. They were frequent guests and friends of Howard Stern... they would have never set foot in that show if they had an old guy mentality.
That's what made them beloved and set them apart from the other established critics of their time. Every film they looked at was discussed on the merits based off how it was promoted, what each story entailed (no matter how serious or ridiculous it may be) and if they were competently made, or at least entertaining. Films like these would often surprise them at either how bad they were or surprisingly good they could be. One of Ebert's favorite guilty pleasures was "Inframan", and Siskel was fond of "Species" and "The Delta Force" despite how trashed it was by his comrades including his television partner Roger Ebert.
Now that the feminists have gotten their foot in the door with that last 'whatever its supposed to be', if the boys got back together the film would be called sexist.
To the sexists that treat the 1984 version of Ghostbusters (and its sequel) like overrated mediocrity and praise the 2016 version like one of its directors (Paul Feig) was right to maturely (NOT! - Wayne Campbell) rage like "F*ck the haters. The problem with the 2016 version isn't that the cast is female, the problem is that it is a hollow attempt to revive a franchise that was built on the talents of those that worked on the original. If you cast the film with male comedy film actors of the present it would have sucked just as much. Like other classic films, the original Ghostbusters cannot be duplicated.

They respected everyone from all walks of life and were open minded and accepting of all cultures and peoples. "I wish there was more breakdancing." Isn't that something? These guys were way ahead of their time and were true critics. They judged based on how good the story and movie was, not on whether or not they agreed or related to the time, place and unique background of the characters. A good example of this is their review of the seminal '91 masterpiece "Boys N The Hood" and their review of Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing." I just adore them and am so happy to have these to watch.

I had never heard of Beat Street until just a few days ago when I saw it on TV. I liked it for its glimpse into the early Eighties hip-hop/breakdancing/graffiti culture in NY (I'm a fan, so...), but Roger's critique of it was also accurate.
In the clip for "They're Playing with Fire," the lines are practically identical to the lines for a scene in "The Teacher" (1974) starring Angel Tompkins.
Here’s a fun fact.....bill murrays role was written for john belushi. He was actually writing a line for him when dan akkroyd got the news that he had passed. Could you imagine ghostbusters with belushi? I love Murray but you’ve gotta wonder

I think with Belushi, the movie would have been less dry humor, more obviously laugh out loud humor. But, I think either version would have probably been very good.
I disagree with Ebert on this...It was more reality than Breakin and had a less Hollywood happy ending.....In Beat street it was about making it but at the end realizing your friends are who matter.

Breakin was a fun goofy film for what it is and i liked it back in the day. but Beat Street was far more realistic and had a lot more going on than just the dancing. i think Beat Street was at least really trying to tell a story and show the life some people were living, Breakin was just a basic story as an excuse to show the dancing.
Oh man, I saw Les compères with my French class! Hadn't thought about it in decades. I'm sure it was very educational... there was certainly nothing interesting going on in the plot to distract us from the language.

Don't expect Roger or Gene to understand hip hop. Breakin' was a goofy fun b-movie with fun music. Beat Street was a great depiction of Hip Hop in the 80s with a realistic story and not the corny fluff that breaking had.
They were right about Beat Street in that the camera was way too close to many of the moves and that Breakin' focussed much more on the love of dancing and how much it meant, although Breakin' is an inferior movie and much more bubble gum. For example, when they practice in the garage, go to the beach to show dancers loving it, etc. Then again, Beat Street did focus more on the graffiti, but that part was terrible.
Focused on graffiti with Ramo as the passionate graff writer, deejaying with Kenny climbing the ladder from house parties to big city discos, and Lee being part of a breaking crew rivaling another local breaking crew.
Les Comperes is classic and it was regularly shown on TV in many countries - I guess Americans simply don't get it. Even as a kid I thought it was much superior to Ghostbusters. As to the other 2 films - no one has ever heard of them on this side of Atlantic.
Sibyl Danny. Wow. One good thing about Breakdancers is they clean up the floor pretty well. I agree with the Father, the son is going about in so many cases messing up the place. So no. 'A Paranormal Pest Control Service'. A very trite description of Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters is brilliant on all levels. A great script, great dialogue, great acting, great, effects and it all brilliantly fits together. I love Ghostbusters. It's rich with possibility too. I think I like less of the films that Siskel liked.
Fathers Day is better than Les Comperes because it's done less like a remake and by proper comedians like Billy Crystal and Robin Williams not Gerard Depardieu amd Pierre Bouchard and Directed by the same guy who directed Ghostbusters the great comedy director Ivan Reitman

Ghostbusters a great comedy and enjoyed beat street liked soundtrack on both movies. Summer 84 my favorite time at the movies.

That was a great film. I knew THE FUGITIVE (1993) was going to be a great film just from having seen FRANTIC (1988) in which Harrison Ford starred.
