Phillips reminds us that drums are, in the hands of a master, a MUSICAL instrument.

A drum solo that maintains a groove. How refreshing.

its so refreshing to see a guy play musically rather than wailing on the drums with his dime a dozen chops like most drummers do.

I don't think I have ever heard this many toms so exquisitely tuned. I'm seriously impressed. Or rather I am in awe of this.

Just beautiful, and so refreshing, not just loads of tricks and speed, this is treating the drums like a proper musical instrument 👏👏

Simon's drums sound absolutely beautiful. ATTENTION!! Especially young players, this is how drums are supposed to sound. DONT try to make your 10 inch tom sound like a 13 inch.

I sold my 7 piece (8, 10, 12 racks, 14, 16 floors, 20 kick) and got 12, 13, and 14 rack toms, 16 and 18 floors, and 2 x 24" kicks. Large drums tuned with some actual tension on the heads sound and feel the best!

It always seems like him and Cobham has the best sounding toms. They both use big sizes. He is using condenser microphones as well on the toms. Tune the batter head higher than the bottom head to get this sound.

After watching this I realize how average I am at playing drums....EVEN after 20 years of playing. Phillips is an Apex predator at his craft. Just superb in every regard. All hail the human metronome Mr. Simon Phillips! Try playing that Tommy Lee, Lars Ulrich, Rikki Rocket.....and the list goes on and on and on. It's a shame some of the so called professional musicians get paid millions live in shameless luxury and aren't fit to shine Simon Phillips shoes insofar as real talent is concerned.
