My father isn't perfect but he did not deserve what happened to him and we didn't deserve to not be able to be with our family instead of foster care. I didn't get a dime, as far as regular payments, but he was still actively involved with our children almost as much as when we lived together. And if we needed something and I wasn't able to get it, he always found a way. Our kids never went without just bc HE didn't have a steady income and I wasn't getting child support. I managed just fine. And our kids didn't give a dam about a check from him. As far as they knew they were taken care of and it wasn't their concern by who or how it was done.
