This was an interesting view into the comic-purchasing mind of Garage Geek! I'll tell you how to do this. First, any issues that did not have an image, take off your purchase list! Do it out of principle, even if you have to sacrifice issues you really want. Those bastards have to be taught a lesson! Next, take off anything you purchased for Frank. This is no time to be benevolent! In the world of comics, it's every man for himself. Maybe buy him a Richie Rich or something, just to keep him satiated. Then, buy only the horror issues, except for those $80 a piece sets. If you're still not down to 200 bucks, start unchecking the cheapest issues until you hit your goal. Now, you have kept your budget, you only have the best types of comics, and Frank is in a corner happily chuckling at his Richie Rich! Am I a genius, or am I a genius? This was fun to watch, but really made me want to start buying facsimile comics. This would be awesome to see you do live with audience participation! I loved this format, though.

Thank you for the encouragement. I really do need to make a change. That was too much to spend. If DC, Valiant and Marvel do Epic style books and other companies are doing compendiums (I didn’t even add any of those!!!), I can’t afford them all. I have to throw in the towel and maybe only complete the original Marvel from 60s to 80s. I have a huge chunk of those already.

You're spot on! The price of your pull list is sure scary, but you collecting TP's is awesome! I never saw anyone that collects so many. It for sure is a unique way to read comics without having to buy golden age and silver age comics and wind up paying 1000's of dollars! I think I should do that a little bit as well, but I am so addicted to those darn individual issues! 😅 Do you and your hubby have a total budget that you spend each month? I need to do that as well, since in the last month I have spent a total that is terrifying!😵‍💫😵‍💫 I know.... I am ashamed of myself as well.😮‍💨I look forward to watching more of your videos; I just chose this one, because the title spoke to me.😉 Have a beautiful rest of your weekend! 🤗🤗🤗

This process is somewhat similar to my own process when I buy music media online: I fill the basket with all sorts of stuff, and then I go through the basket afterwards and, for each item, I ask myself "Do you really want this? Is this something you'll actually listen to?", and if the answer is no, it's removed from the shopping basket. It's a bit like the maybe-pile that some people (myself included) operate with when they buy stuff in the wild. I end up removing a lot of things that way, and I never regret it. In fact, it's kind of cathartic.
I'm thinking that, since you buy stuff based on the coverart, it would make sense to remove the ones without pictures from the shopping basket. This might be a good opportunity to figure out what you absolutely love and definitely will read and what would be nice to have but not necessarily something you'll actually read, and get rid of anything that falls under the latter category.
I'm no expert on the psychology behind collecting, but I've noticed a lot of people use expressions like "need to" and "have to" when they talk about the items they collect (like "I need to get all colored variants of the same album"), which suggests that they feel some kind of compulsion that seems to be conceptualized as an external force telling collectors what to get. It's like they have no agency. To me, that takes the fun out of collecting. Perhaps it's a matter of somehow breaking free from that compulsion... it's a matter of taking back collecting! :D
I tried my hands at collecting Marvel comics myself when I was young, but I got really tired of readin Spider-Man comics full of references to storylines in other series that I would have to read to get the full understanding of the issue at hand, and I realized that it was a way for Marvel to trick me into buying more from them, so I though "eff them" and opted out.

I've used the words want and need all too much but in reality I don't really mean it when I use them. My comments get a bit repetitive when I'm always saying "I'd like to get that" or "put it on my wishlist" 😂 That said I'm an addict! 🤣

Thank you for this! I didn’t put any coverless ones into my cart because of art. I buy all the facsimile issues just because I love owning the old comics in pristine condition. I often try to break my collecting habits but that usually means I’ll jump to another collectible for a while until I move right back to the other genre again. I really admire collectors who can basically stick to one collectible - that’s not me unfortunately .

Buy what you like, so I can't help you there, however, couple things. For Marvel Epics, they are keeping them in print better these days than when they first started. If there is a volume I'm hesitant on, I just wait. You usually have a couple years to finally pull the trigger. Watch Amazon, or your LCS order, once it drops off there, then start watching other retailers and finally Ebay. If prices start to tick up, and you still want it, buy then before it completely goes out of print/availability and everyone comes out of the woodwork looking for it. Those DC Finest volumes on your order look fantastic because they are selling them at half price. Those are $39/40 each cover. I expect after they get a foothold, prices will be comparative to the Epics on an ongoing basis. Finally, I avoid buying the higher price collections of comics you can still find in dollar bins. Overall, that was a tough list to start with. All good stuff I would be happy to own, that's for sure.

I divide the cart into manageable pieces. I write down what the book is and cost. Then I divide it to try to even the amounts 4 times first. So 661 divided by 4 is roughly 165.25. Then if that's to much. I'll divide the cost by 6. That would be roughly 110.17. This how I do big orders on some comic sites. I do look up the book in my cart and try to get the more harder books to find first. This how I solve my problem in this situation. Hope this helped.

The simple answer is "Buy Fewer Comics"! 😜
Obviously, I'm joking and I also know how difficult stuff like this can be. I used to buy a lot of comics myself, but in the end I just had to stop, as it was getting way too expensive. I still buy the odd collection or compendium here or there, but nowhere near the amount I used to.
I realise this isn't going to be an option for you, however, so I haven't been very helpful! I guess the process of elimination you used in this video is really your own way of differentiating the things you 'NEED' vs the 'WANTS'. I do the same with record orders all the time. It's no fun at all, but it has to be done!
    Good luck next month! 😜

Are the Epic collections going out of print? If the answer is no, then wait to order them. Have you compared the prices with Amazon? The positives of my move has led me to read what I have. I do order a book a week and weeks go by that I don't buy a comic. Been enjoying the books I haven't read and re-reading my old comics and books. Doing that has made up for the need to buy large amount of books and comics. Fascimilie editions sometimes end up in dollar bins at my shop.
