    I tried the "wax slug" thing on actual game. I was stunned at how effective they are. In one case, when I shot a feral hog of about 500 pounds, it went down as if hit by a freight train! Another one literally decapitated a 100+ pound Whitetail Deer when I pulled a neck shot.

    I have the Hatfield in 12, 20, & 410. The only thing I don't like is the drop of the comb. I put a recoil pad on it, to extend the length, which makes it easier to get a bead on a target. Best $9 investment for the shotgun. Helps 'tame' the 12 gauge down a bit too!

    Important thing about getting rid of the choke is it lets you use flitecontrol wad ammo. Tightens the patterns right up.

      @@therealbigfoot3076 The Hatfield SGL 28" barrel comes from the factory with a fixed modified choke. The 20 gauge Hatfield youth model comes with 20" barrel that has a cylinder bore barrel. • @sameold77

    It did good John, I'm a little surprised. Not a bad buckshot pattern. Like the wax slugs. We used "poor mans slugs" similarly, cut the shell nearly all the way just above the brass, and shoot the whole shell out, not that great for barrels but deadly. You ever heard of "strung up" buckshot? My dad taught me that as a kid, tight patterns at distance.

    • @JohnCapps
      @JohnCapps  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      sameold77 I was also surprised with the buckshot, I thought the pattern would be terrible. I've never heard of " strung up" buckshot. Would you drill holes, and tie them together. I want to try it.

    • @sameold77

    I am just wondering why you didn't shoot a slug every time from like 50 yards from each gun with a bi-pod to steady the shot? That would have given you more accurate results between the two shotguns.

  • @CarolinaChrisOutdoors
    @CarolinaChrisOutdoors 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ouch! When you shot the 00 buckshot with the sawed off one, I was thinkin' it was gonna kick pretty hard!! I see you left enough on the trigger guard to kinda keep your finger from splipping off... good idea! the one I looked at in the store was pretty hard to slide back, and I was thinking if I removed all of that "nub" it would be hard to break down. Your mods all look great and seem to be just what you were looking for! Good job!!!

    Man that was impressive John be carfull tying that buck shot up it is illegal in some states kind of frowned on by the fish and game. It will really hold it together. The local state warden takes the shot out of shells and fills the wad with hot melt glue to use on bears and moose that get to friendly does no damage but hurts like hell.

      I am a Sporting Goods associate at Walmart and I always tell customers to call the store and ask for the Sporting Goods Department if they are looking for a specific gun. If the associate has no idea what you are talking about when you call that means 1 of 2 reasons. They either do not carry guns at that Walmart anymore or maybe they just don't sell Hatfields.

      I think the wad stablizes the round.

      embarado smithing and woodcraft The only video of his I've seen on the subject. He was melting beeswax with a lighter and letting it drip into the shell, then add a few bb's, drip more wax repeat......... I don't think it was ever a solid mass.
      I've also shot them through a modified choke, and they performed well.

    I do not believe that comes with a choke systems

      From the factory they have a fixed modified choke. Rick with short lane adapters has a video where he checked it with a choke guage, and it measures at modified.

      Is modified choke OK for Slugs

    • @JohnCapps
      @JohnCapps  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brett Duffy That's a big question. Rifled slugs will be fine. Some people argue the modified choke ruins accuracy. While others claim they perform best through a modified choke.

      What would happen if you did it through a full choke

    • @JohnCapps

      Brett Duffy I've never fired slugs through a full choke.

    Try Federal Black Cloud, or Prairie Storm with the flight control wad, you'll get a better pattern out of the Cyl bore. They even have buck shot loads with the flight control wad.

      2326TX Thanks, I didn't know the Black Cloud, or the Prairie Storm used the Flight Control Wad. I've been looking for some of the Flight Control buckshot, but can't find it.
