- Here is our list of the top 10 countries for 2024 retirement travel. This list is perfect for anyone looking to do full time travel on a budget. We take several things into account in this list from expense to safety and ease of arrival. Let us know what you think in the comments.
The top 10 countries for early retirement in 2024 include Croatia, Canada, Thailand, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Mexico, Italy, Colombia, Malaysia & Portugal.
Glad you guys mentioned Malaysia…the 90 day visa on arrival, the food, the affordability and the english proficiency put it near the top of my list as well.
We agree!
Hi. I love watching your videos and like your down-to-earth sensible, trustworthy descriptions of the many factors to consider when traveling. I have fast-traveled with just a little slow-travel for 7 years, now. I’m hoping to begin slow-traveling in the spring (not full time, but maybe 6 months of the year. I usually travel solo. When you mention places like Thailand and Vietnam, I wonder if they’re safe for solo women. Please consider including a statement on safety, mentioning solo travelers, in your descriptions. Thank you!
Great list but the PI, Ecuador and Bali are all high on my list.
Hey Y'all! I'm really enjoying your channel. I've been watching a bunch of the video. Now I'm going to have explore your other channels. I'm contemplating doing full time travel for a couple of years. Or maybe moving somewhere in Europe. The thought of not having a home base is super scary for us. But, y'all make it sound pretty easy. I'm more interested in the Finance side of things (that's what I talk more about on my channel) so I'm glad you started this channel. New Sub.
Thanks!
Surprised the Philippines didn’t make the list.
Exactly! Me too. Every country has its nice and nasty people, but generally speaking, I think Filipinos are super-caring and empathetic. And they have visas to encourage retirees.
I’m Australian, so I’m very happy to hear that Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are high on your list. Whereabouts did you actually stay in Vietnam and Thailand?
And the other countries mentioned. You addressed locations in Croatia, Malaysia, Canada and Columbia, but I am quite interested in specific places for home based in the other countries on your list now that you’ve been there (even if it wasn’t exactly where you stayed, where would you recommend?).
I just discovered your channel two days ago and have watched about 10 videos so far (and subscribed). I like this list. We are currently viewing this from Central Italy, which I agree can be very affordable and cheaper than Mexico. We are thinking about Panama as a home base - have you spent any time there? Our house is currently on the market and we have consolidated down to a 10x15' storage unit (I wish we could get rid of everything). We also have airline retiree benefits, so globe hopping is possible for us. I'd like to winter in Thailand and Malaysia.
Yes, we have spent some time in Panama, we enjoyed it!
Very interesting list, will sure take them into account.. but I think footage of number two looks more like Madeira, although technically Portugal but it's an island and some people don't like the idea of an island😅
Canada?? Lol I’m watching from Ottawa! Damn - never thought of people coming here for retirement vacay!
Haha, we are coming again this year!
Can’t wait to follow your vacay in Canada! Loving your channel BTW!
If you could talk about the best medical care and medical care in general about the places you discuss. Thank you.
A good friend is from Croatia. She is from Rijeka. Very charming and 2 hours to Venice.
I've been to Mexico 3 times in the last 2 years! Love it there!
What area did you visit? Last time we were there we went to Merida.
@@GroundedLifeRetirementTravel Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Valladolid, and Chichen-Itza
Thanks for a really nice and succinct video. Which city in Thailand were you showing in your video? It is a big country with lots of different geography. What did you find to be your favorite area there?
Most of the footage is from Bangkok or near Bangkok, which is our favorite place to go.
Enjoy your time abroad. Thanks for the tips
I am in ATL but my parents are elderly and require me to be caregiver in addition to working full time. Maybe some day I can join the retiree travel group.
Came across your channel, reside in Atlanta. Great video.
Awesome! Thank you!
We just moved to Portugal in March 2023 and specifically away from Expat communities so that we can be learn the Portuguese language and immerse ourselves in the Portuguese culture a little better. We absolutely love it and feel very welcomed in our new country. I have found The Portuguese are very warm and helpful.
Awesome, we got to visit there this summer, really liked it
fantastic video thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
I live in Portugal and we been getting a lot of Americans moving here .
We met quite a few on a recent cruise that went to Lisbon.
Great list.😊
Thanks! 😊
Yeah, too bad Portugal is ending NHR...but that only applies if you want to stay longer... And I love the idea of Thailand but not for a long-term stay...a little too far for permanent retirement. Lol - I wish I could do what you are doing but I have pets which limits me for slow travel.
A huge THANK YOU for all of this information. Can you advise when is the best time to travel and short stay, within visa-cost-weather constraints, at these top 10 countries
How can I find the list of the particular cities/area's you visited in the countries (do you have your itineraries?) 🙏🤗😊
We don't yet, but we are going to out some together next month likely
You mentioned you were able to get medicine in some of these countries.
I have chronic back pain & wear fentanyl pain patches… I can google if you don’t know, but is it possible at all in getting narcotic pain meds?
Also, hubby has a couple meds for high blood pressure, can that type of RX be filled in other countries.
I'd love to hear more details about how you manage the language barrier. This is a big fear for me of foreign travel. Also how was Italy as far as English-speaking or do you speak Italian? Thanks!
There have only been 2 countries where a language barrier was even noticeable, for the most part everyone speaks English in most countries in the service industry, at hotels and restaurants etc... Japan and Greece there was less English, but we just used google translate on our phone and it works perfectly, no problems. Don't let that be what stops you, it won't be as hard as you imagine it to be.
For right now I’m a first time solo expat, out of these cities where would you recommend? All of them sound great.
None of them would be a bad choice really!
The only thing, don’t eat Pork, kosher, as a Christian. Hopefully enough beef, chicken.
❤
what countries have the best internet? Which have the worst?
Great question!
No questions, just more appreciation for the great content. I am loving all the videos.
Thank you!
Mexico more expensive than Italy? Damn, things have changed in the last 2 years 😳
Surprising, but it can be.
Have there been any countries that you have experienced any issues around inter racial couples?
Have you guys visited Taiwan ?
Not yet but it's coming up soon
Really, Malaysia? 😅
Great video as always!! Have you spent any time in Dominican Republic? I have been a few times but looking to explore some popular expat areas like Las Terenas.
Yes, we have, we love spending time there! Last time there was on a cruise though so only 1 day.
@@GroundedLifeRetirementTravelthanks a lot!! I love that you speak about these topics first hand because you are living it! You can probably start an expat consulting business!😀
