Thank you so much for this! I can imagine how much time and effort it takes to put something like this together. This is a perfect video for everyone to get excited for the upcoming season including new ship watches. I hope people share this video and get it out there! Can't wait to see what you capture this season. 🚢
What an AWESOME collection of videos.... and so well edited by you. I'm guessing that you have the best documentation avaiilable of all of the Lakers and even of those no longer with us. As always, thank you for your dedication and effort to share the views of these great ships with us.
Thank you as always! I wish I had started doing this earlier, as there were so many ships that retired before I could catch them. There’s a long list of near misses that really makes me sad. But I just need to catch what I can, as more rumored retirements are just around the corner.
Steller video! Its amazing watching giant 500-1000 ft steel walls gently float on the water light as a feather. The horn salutes puts the cherry on top as they creep though the canal and onto the open lake. Great Job! Can't wait to see you're coming videos!
I've been wondering what you've been up to 1L2S, and now I see the answer. This is an awesome surprise. Thank you, and I hope you've been having a good off-season. 😊
So cool! I grew up in Wisconsin so this is so neat to see. I recently did a lesson on the Edmund Fitzgerald for my 5th graders who live in South Dakota. They were fascinated by the story. I then showed them the live camera of the Soo Locks and were intrigued by the freighters going through. They knew little or nothing about the Great Lake Freighters. Now they keep asking me to turn the live Soo Locks live cam so they can watch the ships! Their favorites are the Mesabi Miner, the Arthur M. Anderson, and the James R. Barker. (The horn sold them on this one) I may show them parts of this video every day so they can see so many more! Thanks for a wonderful compilation of these beautiful, giant ships!
Such a relaxing video, as always. They all sound good, but there was something about the Munson's master salute towards the end that really was nice. We're so used to hearing her frozen horn that her deep, vibrating resonance is a bit of a treat.
Wow! this is another magnificent video times X1000~ all the ships I love are in here, and what a fantastic gift to us to be provided with huge insight, fabulous videography as usual, and incredible images. I needed this! And I've provided a small Thank You gift to you viaPP
@@1Long2Short Yes it was ~ I nearly died & was in the hospital's cardiac unit. Happy to be alive and it's MARCH!! My weeds are growing through the snow. Take it easy
Several ships have guest quarters for non-crew. They are usually meant for company executives or important guests. There is a raffle for a ride on the Alpena that will be given away early next year, if I’m not mistaken.
Nice! Where was the second clip, the Munson filmed? I was first thinking the Keweenaw, but then naw. Duluth maybe? Do you know if the Portage canal in the Keweenaw is still used by the large freighters?
Most clips (including the Munson) were shot in Duluth-Superior. I’m not sure if any freighters use the Keewanaw canal these days. If they do, it’s very rare.
Thanks! Welcome aboard. The bridge serves a long natural sand bar that contains a residential neighborhood. None of the cargo ports are served by the bridge, but the Coast Guard has their station out there.
One thing those canucks dont do much of is keep a fresh coat on any of their behemoths and its sad. They make the money some of them look horrendous though, cool but horrendous.
James R Barkers horn is nothing to be scoffed at! Damn. I need that as an alarm tone.
You should hear it in person. It vibrates through your chest! 😳
I'll guess your neighbourhood wakes up with you :-)
A collection of beauties and you always manage to have lovely backgrounds to enhance them.
Thank you!
So excited for this season to start ! Thanks for 2023 season
This is a great compilation! Nice way to see them all again in the off-season. Looking forward to the upcoming 2024 season.
Thank you! Yes, it will be interesting to see what 2024 brings us!
Thank you so much! Beautiful! I am so looking forward to 2024 shipping on March 25th. You always give us amazing videos! Great job!
Thank you Alex!
2024 here we come. Thank you for this wonderful collection. 💖
Thanks for watching, Betty!

Thank you! I meant to have this video completed 2-3 weeks ago, but February threw me some curve balls. 🙃
That was a great compilation. I really enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Thank you Jeff!
Absolutely beautiful! Looking forward to the start of the season. Thank you!
Thank you!
awww the sound of the salute.............my dogs jumped at that........been too long since they heard it.
This video should serve as a reminder of what the horns sound like. 😉 🐶
Great Video - Thanks for sharing. George Pierre-louis retired from Upper Lakes & also worked for CSL. so, he enjoys watching this video.
Thank you George!
Wow what an amazing compilation 😍😍
Greetings from Germany and I’m looking forward for the next season 😊
Thank you!
Oh what a beautiful sight and sound. Thank you so much for this and all your wonderful videos.
Thank you Jay!

Thanks for teaching them about this important part of our transportation system! It makes me happy to know that some are enjoying it. 🙂
Well done.
Thanks!

Yes, I threw in that second Munson clip because I liked that salute. And because it's one of my favorite ships!

AWESOME! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Oooo the Munson and Tregurtha mean business with their horns. I love it
YAY! Yiippee! Yahoo! You're back~!~
I meant to get this video out three weeks ago, but February was a tough month. Glad to finally be back!

Oh wow, you did have a tough month! I hope things are moving in the right direction for you now. Please take good care of yourself!
@@1Long2Short my motto: Stress Less and Guard Your Peace~ thanks for your kind words.
Good motto. I know I tend to stress over stuff that isn’t as important as I think it is. Please take care! 🙂
Wow!👍 Loved the horn, even if it did make me Jump! Such massive ships. Thanks for your TH-cam channel coverage and videos. 😊
Thanks Bruce!
Thanks Mark for all the great footage,
Thank you for watching!
Awesome 😎 👍⚓️
Very nice videos. I have many great memories building the 1000 footers at American Shipbuilding in my 20's. Good times.
Thank you!
Beautiful collection. Those were certainly some of your smash hits. Bet you can’t guess which ones were my favorites 🌘🌗🌕🌜🌛🌕😆😆😆😆
Thank you! I am playing with the idea of doing a compilation of my best night videos. But I might need another season to gather up more footage.

Thanks! 😊
Was that a smoker/grill on the stern of the Munson?
Incinerator 🙂
did you see the sturgeon jump at 2:27 in front of the John G. Munson? awesome
The Paul R Tregurtha is the only Laker that allows non crew guest to ride aboard the vessel with guest quarters and a lounge area if not mistaken.

Greetings from Southern Ontario...Subbed and gave ya a like..
Thank you! Welcome aboard. 🙂
❤ those horn 😂
What are the round things with the cross through them on the side of the ships? Are they for the dock lines?
Yes, if you’re talking about the openings along the top of the cargo deck.
@1Long2Short yes. What exactly is their purpose?
Nice! Where was the second clip, the Munson filmed? I was first thinking the Keweenaw, but then naw. Duluth maybe? Do you know if the Portage canal in the Keweenaw is still used by the large freighters?

New subscriber. Does the bridge serve the roads in the ports? Does public traffic come through?
Thanks! Welcome aboard. The bridge serves a long natural sand bar that contains a residential neighborhood. None of the cargo ports are served by the bridge, but the Coast Guard has their station out there.
Loving this, May I ask what port this is?
A mixture of Duluth, Superior, and Two Harbors on the western end of Lake Superior.
@@1Long2Short Thanks
Is the Tregurtha still the biggest on our lakes guys?
Yes, still the biggest after 43 years. When the Tregurtha retires, the next “queen” will likely be smaller (for the first time ever).
Wow, all these ships need some serious maintenance, Including a good sand blasting and paint job.
wonder what happened to Atlantic Huron's Bow...
She had a collision with the tanker NCC Qamar in July 2022. Oops!
@@1Long2Short wow!
Was it the lighting or did the mesabi get a new paint job?
She got some fresh paint in 2022, if I remember correctly.
why dont the bridge answe? O((
I only included a few of the bridge responses. I figured nobody needed to hear 25 bridge salutes in one video. 😆
Holly sh!t. 😲 🥺 😫
Nothing like having an armed military escort too.
There were four different police departments doing training exercises that day with each other.
the munson powered by 1 6cyl 7,000hp engine....that sounds deceptive lol.......i gotta see what it looks like
The John G. Munson looks so similar to the Fitzgerald

Paul R Tregurtha horn means a change of underwear....

Jealous Captain B. The most beautiful video of the ships.
Amazing video!!!

Where they been ?
Other ports!
It would be nice if y’all were more welcoming to us that work in a Maritime industry in the south to come up there and work
I’m just a guy that makes videos. 😉
