Depends on the car and what type of vinyl you want. It's not cheap, but if I got a new car and couldn't get the color I wanted, I'd save up for it because I've heard it helps defend against road salt damage.
The excess wrap can't because it's cut in different unusual shapes. I can sometimes get away with using excess material to wrap a fuel door, mirror caps or door handles depending on the car I'm wrapping and how much excess vinyl is still clean.
For the price of this wrap, I’d have to use every inch of that wasted wrap on something. Whether it’s a steering wheel or a tire cap or the seatbelt clip. Please.

Why do people choose a wrap over a paint job? Does vinyl hold up better?
More color options and can provide paint protection depending on what you wrap it with
