LCD Soundsystem peforming Daft Punk is Playing at My House during the Late Show with David Letterman - Thanks to LCD Soundsystem for linking to this vid!
It's amazing that they can pull it off at all live, And if you actually went to a gig I think you'd be impressed at how good a band like this can sound live. Their records are very tightly produced with loads of electronics and editing, so you have to accept that it's going to sound different live. Surely that's the whole point of a live band. All the best bands don't actually sound like the record most of the time, and that's what makes them (and live music) great!
I remember catching this on Letterman just by accident-- I stared at the TV in disbelief for the entire four minutes. Epic, awesome song. A love affair was born.
It sounds different because James Murphy plays almost all, if not all, of the instruments on the studio version/music video. This version has a live band, as a result, each player puts their own flair on the tune so it comes out sounding quite different than the original version.
How bizarre: I'm a huge Talking Heads fan and I never liked this song when it came out (maybe because of the video, or because of the "Daft Punk" mention, a band I used to link with commercial, vacuous dance music). Only a few years later did I realize it sounds a lot like Talking Heads and now I enjoy it.
i have to go on here a little. this is so much better than the plastic corporate rock shit that they feed us on the radio and tv. youtube is helping music get better.
Five geeks take on 'The Man' and fucking win! So much better than some of their slightly sloppy live performances. Lovin' the glam rock 'hand claps' from the house band! LCD are the band we all want to be a member of, aren't they?
i think its important tot remember that stuff recorded live directly (as in not via a microphone) sounds VERY different to what the audience hears. This sounds like it owuld be fab to hear live, even if you think it sounds a little weak here, which i dont think it does.
James Murphy looks like a rebellious James Corden here.
Lol 💀💀💀💀
If James Corden was actually good at something
@@ProphecyNimbus30904 James Murphy will forever be the better James.
the cow bell solo gave me chills...
Needs more cowbell IMO
WHAT A LOSER.
More cowbell , please!
it's an agogo, an agogo solo, needs more agogo...

This band didn't need to change a thing, it just needed the world to catch up to it. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

the best in this video is to see the Late Show's band members enjoying the song!
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Their live CD is simply outstanding, far better than studio, believe it or not! Very impressive!!!
Meet me in the Bathroom...."Starting a band at 32 is so...fucked up." LOL
1:20 how does he do that with his voice! thats unbelievable control!
some talking heads' cd in your house too?
SO much BETTER than Talking Heads.
...based on?
Why cant we just enjoy two obviously awesome things without comparing and rating them?

I saw them around this time in Toronto, on the same bill with MIA.
There's a freakout brewing in my house! My house!

i'm just now figuring out that you can listen to music sober. it's not as bad as i feared. the endless party is getting tired.

Its weird how awkward they seem!
excited far more than awk, I say
They seem more comfortable these days.
i have to go on here a little. this is so much better than the plastic corporate rock shit that they feed us on the radio and tv. youtube is helping music get better.
Indeed

Absolutely.
Love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great band! Great music!
Glad you like the video guys :).
amazing!!!!
SO AWESOME!!!!
@SlapHappyJesus I agree, they are pretty good live. My personal favorite band live is Iron Maiden. Not quite same genre but still amazing live.
Unfingbelievable
Amazing!
For the record, the thing James Murphy plays during the solo is not a cowbell, it’s an agogo bell
He now has someone hand him it when playing live 👍🙏👍
Wow, he's channeling David Thomas !
Amazing solo!
Wonderful! I'm very proud of you.
saw their concert... it's amazing. this guy is such a cute one
I love the Soulwax version even more
Daft Punk is no longer playing at my house
I was waiting for this
Whilst we're talking songs that sound similar...
Devo - That's good
3 great songs, 3 great bands all pioneering in their own way. Love it.

1:44 aka replay button for the mini cowbell solo
More COW BELL. Awesome.
You should check out the "London Sessions" version of this song. It's basically a studio version of this live version...
They are different live. Like the recorded stuff better, but that's cause I'm electronica guy. Thanks for the upload.
1:44 COWBELL SOLO!!!!!!!

that would be amazing.
I gotta have more cow bell.

@ox092 Yeah :) They pack a punch live, they are great
much more funky than the cd version, but murphy's obviously stressed :P
2007.... FUCK...
sick song
James Murphy looks SO nervous..he keeps staring at the microphone.
One of the only bands that are actually better playing live. Great band, no questions.
love this bad !!
Like the difference from the studio version
