My great great grandfather was linched by the KKK in 1900 in Birmingham Alabama. He was a mormon missionary and they did not like that. It took two other mormons to sneak in and retrieve his body.
fun fact:About 350 extras were hired for the Klan rally sequence. Many of them were members of a military formation troupe, and many were African-Americans! Joel Coen later recalled hearing one say, 'This is the freakiest thing!'
@@jonathanbarr9764i heard that they had to change locations when they shot this scene. They shot most of the film on location in Mississippi, but they were worried if they put out a casting call for the rally there, that actual Klansmen would show up with their own robes.
I might be mistaken, but I could’ve sworn that I heard the burning cross tradition originates from lowland Scots, well really ‘Covenanters’ (Presbyterians), who did it to frighten Church of Scotland/Anglican officials off of their land and in response to reprisals during the late 17th century. perhaps this rumour only pervades the K** itself.
Unfortunately, the KKK was in northern states too. There were an instance of students at Notre Dame getting into a fight with an Indiana chapter of the KKK.
"The color guard is color!" 😂
“Run boys!” 😂😂 always gets me

Not a phone in sight, just people enjoying the moment
For everyone admiring the singing, it is professional - by excellent Ralph Stanley, song is O Death
Merci pour la référence

Operation : Babylon
Might been mine great great grandfather
You would think the Mormons would get along great with the Klan, seein' as how they think Black skin is a mark of evil.
5:05 - No, no, son!😂

I was kind of wondering, how did the casting for this scene go because I would imagine it would make a lot of people feel very uncomfortable.
@@jonathanbarr9764 I would've loved to hear that conversation
@@Pinkranger87 Have you ever seen the SNL sketch where they did the casting for 12 Years A Slave, I imagine it went something like that.
All I can think of is the scene from Blazing Saddles. “I told you to wash your hands after each cross burning. See? It’s coming right off.”

The dancing and singing is a little goofy, but what they stand for is horrifying
"CAIN'T LET DAT FLAG TOUCH DA GROUN!"
i love this movie sm
Just realized John Goodman is the cyclops in Odyssey
Polyphemus. Son of Poseidon.
In two ways: the Cyclops in The Odyssey and likely the Exalted Cyclops in the KKK.
The dance was actually frightening it was very pagan like. Especially when the grand dragon in red started singing his creepy song. "Odin oh Odin" 😮
Song is by Ralph Stanley, song is called O Death (not Odin :) )
@@ivan00001983 that's even creepier!!!!👀
Btw the grand dragon in red is called a cyclops

it's "o death", not odin
This scene makes me think of the wizard of oz, with the castle guards!
He may be a Soab but god damn that Soab can sing.
the cute little forrest gnomes when they're off their shift:
Lol
Eenie, meanie, minieee, moooeee... 😂
“Can’t let that flag touch the ground!” 😹
* Immediately turns the flag toward the ground after catching it *
@Jordan117
OH MY GOODNESS! I’m so glad someone else caught that!
So besides the midget and the absence of a grand dragon this is pretty accurate
the 2’1 midget lol
I think its wrong to treat African - American people like this!
Let them live.
even the horse was a racist
If you look close you can see me!
and i was right beside you, you can see me, remember?
@@Scarecrow..0 Get out of the window sill
A just woke up in the bushes did you take ma robes
Love the song the grand wizard sings
That scene is a horrible insult to actual Christians.
Hollywood in a nutshell.
What the KKK does is a horrible insult to actual Christians. Would you get mad at a documentarian for saying crusaders killed innocent people?
@@LacoSinfonia
The movie ISN'T a documentary.
And I was referring to other things.
@@icqtrinity so we should not have fictional depictions of anything that happened in history that was unpleasant ?
Ralph Stanley RIP
huh funny that the dunce hat in gta and the klan hoods look the same... wait
The flag of the south. Since 1861.
No but vivian is
downvoted for cutting off the scene.
America's deep south 1930s.
1930's?
It is the 1930s.
More like last weekend.
Unfortunately, the KKK was in northern states too. There were an instance of students at Notre Dame getting into a fight with an Indiana chapter of the KKK.
Good voice tho.
The good old days.
