George Carlin is by far THE WORLD'S BEST comedian because he's being himself telling THE TRUTH. The inconvenient truth that most people can't stand and would rather carry on living a huge lie. R.I.P. George. You were right about everything.
Ah George Carlin! Not only the man behind being the narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine for the US, but he is also one of the very few Americans (alongside Bill Burr) who is capable of doing self-depreciating satire and criticism about the USA just like this.
George Carlin started off with "clean" comedy. With each passing decade he learned from his professional perspective, and he used that knowledge to bounce real-life scenarios in a critique-like form off of the audience to gain wisdom, which became part of each future show. He was a philosopher, albeit unintentionally at first.
The late great George Carlin knew how things are. The best observational speaker I ever heard. I don't class him as a comedian, but as a Pragmatist and Realist. Brilliant
A fantastic source of good information. He found his audience and it grew more and more in support of him; it will be funny, harsh, blunt but above all genuinely honest and truthful, told in a way that you really want people to be like. Great values of wisdom that you can watch grow and develop over time, we are lucky to be able to see it.
Carlin has switched style of his comedy a few times during his long career. His earliest work consisted of constructed jokes and impersonations, after he got famous he had a few renowned skits that he did. When he got to middle age and beyond, he started doing major topics and derive multiple jokes in each and when he got old, he took the witty old man direction and focused on rants about society with impeccable logic.
I wish I could hang out at the pub and have a drink with y'all. Love y'alls channel and will continue to support it. Btw, he's more of a teacher in his older years than a comedian.
His persona is so captivating. His comedy lies in his insanely factual observation of the world he lived in. Just observational humor but he brings the observation such life from a satirical point of view. This man was definitely one of a kind. It's sad to not have him around anymore. But I'm sure he died knowing he did the best he could to keep his audience self aware of vigilant of the cruel world we live in, and that's the joke, it's a joke on all of us, even him.
George was a master wordsmith. His use of language and his perception of language were totally unique. Also, he polished and perfected his act before he hit the stage. It was written out in detailed, scripted, and well rehearsed. That’s part of the reason of his fast delivery, perfected delivery and well thought out ideas. Over time many of his points still remain valid decades later.
American Comedy has always had a social side to it & that’s what Carlin was the best at, he was the thinking man’s comic. Carlin, Rock & Chappelle are three of my all time favorites.
George Carlin makes very valid points, wraps it in comedy but makes you THINK about the points he has made, that leads to discussion and critical thinking.in my opinion more of a philosopher. What a great man he was.
On one hand: I completely agree with you guys. You go to a comedy show, you want to laugh. On the other hand: if I had important things to say, the skill to say them well, and an audience of thousands there to listen to my words, I'd probably say those important things.
For the red head guy, if you paid money to go to see George Carlin in 2005, you more than got your money's worth here. The man is a genius and at this point in his career he was really pushing the line. If you would've wanted to go see a comedian joke about dating, their families, and pop culture you'd go somewhere else. The man had been doing comedy for about 60 years at this point. He can bring whatever he wants to the table. Again, what he's saying here is also well ahead of it's time.
George Carlin actually was “super funny” at times. He was the perfect mix of philosopher and goofy. This special was at the time that he was basically forced to continue to work, at the end of his rope and seriously fed up, so he didn’t hold back. I had a hard time watching it at the time, when I was younger, but now I get it. There are many, many hilarious GC bits that you have yet to watch until you truly appreciate his genius.
I recently hopped on a bus.....my car broke down....and this HUGE!!!! Dude hopped on with me. He just rode it to the next stop a couple seconds away. I was like You need to walk more fella.
Carlin's stand up is not actually meant to be particularly funny... it's a modern day philosophical eye opening. There were only about 3-4 comments made by all three of you about Carlin's actual points that he brought up... everything else was just taking the piss out of the stereotypical "ranting old man", but there's making jokes and then going back and actually taking his points seriously and listening to him and Dave you really seemed to have failed with that (maybe because you thought Carlin is meant to be the most funniest stand up comedian ever or something?). Carlin's a philosopher, remember that for future reactions.
The point of Carlin is to make serious issues funny and raising awareness to it. He could be like any other comedian and make generic made up jokes about whatever. This is exactly why he stands out and is regarded widely as the best comedian. Also his earlier stuff was more standard comedy. When he got older he got more cranky and his boys come off as rants but ran are just nonsense. He was making point after point rapid fire.
The only thing that's really changed is that we no longer have shopping malls in the US - they all closed up as more & more people bought stuff online. So now everyone stays home, pushes a few buttons on the computer, orders crap from Amazon & other sites, & eat & grow even fatter, because they're (we're) not getting the exercise we used to get while at the mall.
Carlin was more of a philosopher than a century comedian. He never cracks you up but I do chuckle for months when things happen that remind of something he said.
Gentlemen, please remember that the title of that broadcast was "Life is Worth Losing". Tombstones were the set decorations. Anyone walking into a comedy show by George Carlin entitled "Life is Worth Losing" should have known what they were walking into. Still, it wasn't all as dark as that...
If you want George Carlin to make you laugh, you have to watch '7 Words You Can't Say on TV'. It's probably one of his most famous bits and it's genius.
I 1st heard George in the 60s first on the Jack Paar Show then later on Johnny Carson and kept listening to him up dying and Thanks to You Tube I can still listen to him.
Holy crap! Finally figured it out! Dez (spelling?) has a stunning resemblance to early 90's Robert Palmer! Always had that "he looks familiar" feel, then happened to see the 'Addicted To Love' video the other day and was like "BINGO! THAT'S HIM!". Hope you don't take offense to that. Palmer was one handsome SOB!
Carlin is one of the all time greats. This was three years before he passed. It is a serious bit but he was always a counter culture comic and had some health issues already going on, pretty sure he knew this was his last go at it . Also he was and still is correct.
Esquire magazine in 2001, he said, "Because of my abuse of drugs, I neglected my business affairs and had large arrears with the IRS, and that took me eighteen to twenty years to dig out of. I did it honorably, and I don't begrudge them. I don't hate paying taxes, and I'm not angry at anyone, because I was complicit in it. But I'll tell you what it did for me: it made me a way better comedian. Because I had to stay out on the road and I couldn't pursue that movie career, which would have gone nowhere, and I became a really good comic and a really good writer
Must watch his ‘Soft language’ bit. Carlin is a very funny public speaker.. a master of language and an insightful individual. Some of his older stuff is on the lighter side and not too deep. Recommend continue watching some more.
It's not a rant though... It's philosophy.... George Carlin was known for his modern day philosophy.... if you guys react to Carlin in the future please bear this in mind and maybe give your opinions on the subject matters HE brings to light? Instead of you know, disregarding all of that because it's not funny. It's not meant to be particularly funny, it's meant to open your blind eyes to some truths about the subjects Carlin talks about. Simple as that.
He was putting across serious points from the very beginning of the video to the very end of the video all of which are true. Rewatch the video by yourself when you have time once of twice more and you will start to fully understand all of his points and your eyes will be opened (at least a bit more than they were prior to watching the video).
As Carlin got older, his material leaned more into what would now be referred to as a TED Talk - still funny, but he was eviscerating everything that irritated him, he didn't count so much on the audience laughing as counted on them LISTENING. Pay attention and learn something, you're missing the big red flags I'm showing you here... the man was pure genius.
Except for the very first year two of his career, George has always been political. Got arrested early in his career for one of his bits. The case made it to the U.S. supreme court where censorship laws were deemed unconstitutional.
Best thing I ever when me and my mate Rob were walking behind this guy we know Andy at work. Andy is obviously a big guy, but he said "Have you seen how small his arms are. He looks like a T rex. How does he wipe his arse." :D

I use the phrase "dumber than a second coat of paint" myself now ... and use it quite often.
"It's a big club and you aint in it"
Prophetic words
For the red head guy, if you paid money to go to see George Carlin in 2005, you more than got your money's worth here. The man is a genius and at this point in his career he was really pushing the line. If you would've wanted to go see a comedian joke about dating, their families, and pop culture you'd go somewhere else. The man had been doing comedy for about 60 years at this point. He can bring whatever he wants to the table. Again, what he's saying here is also well ahead of it's time.
Greetings from New Orleans.. digging the reactions and commentary!
One of the all time LEGENDS! He was breaking down exactly what is happening now 30-40 years ago! “Seven Dirty Words” is a great one as well!
This is still so true today as it was when he did this show! He may have sounded grumpy, but he hit the nail on the head!!
George Carlin; if you crossed a comedian with a philosopher. I miss him. I'm glad I got to see him twice.
Finally!!!!! Thank you Carlin!!!! Always keeping it real!!!!!!
The man's a genius. If you get him. You'll laugh. Even at yourself.
This was his last televised show. And I think he just went balls to the wall. He knew he was dying.
Im glad i was introduced to George way before i should have been. Its been over four decades now, so much truth to be gleaned from him.
George Carlin didn't coat it all pretty. He just told it the way it is. May not come as funny but damn it made you think.
Definitely gotta check out Jim Brewer's stand up bit about calling a bomb threat into the Sears painting department. So hilarious. 🤣🤣
Long live paint!!! 😂

“You have to be Asleep to believe in the American Dream.”-George Carlin
Realest shit I’ve heard today.
Glad people from overseas appreciate Carlin and see his truths also apply to their countries, too.
Ain't that the truth!!
Because life is a Comedy you don’t need to laugh you just need to open your mind 😊
Carlin was an angry truth teller.
Carlin was famous for practicing his routine word for word to a finely honed finish. He rarely strayed from the script. Never really ad libbed.
Carlin was more of a philosopher than a century comedian. He never cracks you up but I do chuckle for months when things happen that remind of something he said.
George Carlin was a genius
I have to start counting how many episodes where the office blokes have no hats! 😂
did you say `Lakewood, NJ...` the only 2 places I could think of would be the Strand Theater or some outdoor location
Carlin hit a sweet spot of about 3-5 years where he had the perfect amount of the ranting with excellent wisecracks.
One of his best bits. Subscribed. Carlin is the best.
First time i watched this bit i couldn't breathe i was laughing so hard. I guess you have to live in America to truly understand.
Well, If you paid to go to a Carlin show, you know exactly what you're getting in to.
I recommend reacting to "7 Dirty Words" by him. Not nearly as political, and he was younger.
That bit was so political it made it to the U.S. supreme court
@@andrew348 Lol yes of course, but I mean in terms of actual content and in context of today's sensibilities.
@@andrew348 I was just going to comment the same. :)
"theres grandad going on about the price of cheese again" Lol
This was in 2005. Then it was comedy.
Now it is prophecy.
If you're doing George Carlin, you simply must do the iconic "7 Dirty Words". This was the routine that literally got him arrested once upon a time.
George Carlin = genius!
He's one of the greatest!
And keep in mind how ahead of his time he was with his ideas and how he saw the world.
Woah random Lakewood Nj shoutout was not expecting that
This man is a Genius!!! That is exactly how USA shows itself to the outside world...
He was putting across serious points from the very beginning of the video to the very end of the video all of which are true. Rewatch the video by yourself when you have time once of twice more and you will start to fully understand all of his points and your eyes will be opened (at least a bit more than they were prior to watching the video).
Everybody's talking about being "WOKE"
Carlin was the alarm clock everybody put on snooze. Like Chris Pratt in passengers
I agree with him but watching this with British people makes me feel defensive 🤣
The British know they could never be this honest about their own people.
@@hrussell9677 Starting with Farage and Bozo.
@@hrussell9677 I think you'll find we're the most self-deprecating people on the planet
Every American should be required to watch this. Some of this is only funny because it's so sadly true.
George was a Philosopher who used 'comedy' to get his views across.
The thing with his comedy routines is .. they may you THINK!!
George carlin is not like an angry old man, he is THE angry old man
I’m sure the owners of US didn’t enjoy that truth filled rant!
Who owns the US?
