True, myself and other vegans I know, eat whole foods most of the time. Substitutes are a rare occasion, like for a birthday or holiday. Those types of products are incredibly expensive and it's not realistic to be eating substitute products daily
After a while they start to crave animal products. Because being vegan is not natural for human beings. Yes, do the research. So, they'll try to look for "fake animal products". You can even look up the internet for compilations of vegans getting high on fake animal foods saying things like oh my god it tates just like egg or meat.
@@noone7304 vegans don't get high off the food the reason it tastes similar to vegans is that most people will have forgotten what real meat tastes like so substitutes seem like they taste accurate and this is 100% just a false statement i havent touched meat in 5 years and have never once craved it most people won't unless they are just recently transitioning but if anything the longer you go without meat the less of a temptation you'll have for it especially if you're actually comitted to becoming vegan

But like the very weird meats that some people eat (which we have made a video on before!) there is some REALLY weird vegan foods out there and so we wanted to make this video. I actually get kinda exhasporated when there is talk about food, and someone comes in and recommend alternatives to me... say ham and vegan cheese. the ham is not the problem here, they like the ham and was not looking to replace it. Tofu can be a great thing, I have eaten it at times even though I am not vegen/vegitarian, and I do think its a thing that could easily be put into any diet, even if its just to make some more variation in your diet. But its kinda offensive to just push things onto people that didn't ask for it.
Idk if you’ve tried this cheese but I like the Field Roast Vegan Chao Creamy Original cheese. I’m lactose intolerant so I like to use alternatives sometimes and this is the best one that I’ve tried. It even tastes great in pasta.
@@sugakookies8063 I believe it. We don't eat Nutella or any nut butters or spreads in our house due to food allergies. I decided a long time ago to try and eat local and sustainable. I live in agricultural state so it's not that hard.
Msp 1984 Ah, that makes sense. We've had to cut out a few foods as well (due to the same reasons), and even though Nutella is sooo good, I feel like that should be one of them. Definitely can't be good for you over a long period of time (I also saw somewhere - and this might be wrong, but I thought it was interesting - that you can actually develop cancer if you get a wrong batch of palm oil. I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't put it past me😬😂)
@@sugakookies8063 anything is possible. I noticed that when we cut out nuts, and vegetable oils everyone's eczema improved tremendously. We only use animal fats now. Plant oils are usually oxidized before they are even sold and cause a lot of inflammation when eaten.

@@MiyakoSakura fat and milk are the easiest to replace. For butter, margarine is the best for cookies or tarts (sorry if it's not english words, I'm not that fluent in english :'/), or simply sunflower oil for cakes, it works pretty well. As for milk, most of time soy milk is the best because it's rich in protéin, and bakery needs protéin to coagulate and stick the elements togeter. But it have sometimes a bad taste so when I do pâtissière cream, I do it with rice milk for example but I put some agar agar and corn flour so it can stick all the éléments together either way. The hardest to replace is the eggs and the gelatine, But this is an whole another story

The best vegan food is whole plant food and not fake animal food. I’ve been a vegan for 15 years for health reasons. Why try to make and eat fake meat, cheese and shrimp when you’re not going to eat the real thing? Very brave of you two to try those hideous items. LOL. This was a great reminder of why I don’t buy the fake stuff. Thanks!

the cheap, yellow, individually sliced cheese is an American thing. I have only ever eaten real cheese as a child. The American cheese (the oil one) is banned here because of the preservatives in it is not legal here... I am not talking yellow cheddar tho, I am talking about that "claims to be real, but its not"

It was so cringy and uncomfortable to watch lol. I've heard that it's harder to get Vegan substitutes in UK than US from many people. The only places where you could get decent meals are from actual Vegan restaurants honestly.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with vegans. I have two good friends who are vegans. But what I don't understand is, why does the vegetable have to look like a steak? Or like eggs? Or like caviar? Whenever I eat a steak or burger, my girlfriends look like they like to bite off... That's what I don't understand... You want to be a vegan.... is ok... but don't call your vegetables steak, egg or cavier...
Usually its just to make the "transition" from real steak to something that's supposed to be similar. It usually contains the same spices, tastes quite similar, but calling it replacement food is kinda ridiculous. Also vegans usually don't buy that stuff, cause its quite expensive.
A lot of vegan used to be meat eater. So it’s normal for them to miss the taste and smell of meat, but won’t eat it because it comes from an animal who got killed horribly just so people can eat them. Plus there’s nothing wrong in calling vegan food like “chicken, cheese, etc....” they’re just a cruelty free alternative to real meat, seafood, and dairy.

I've eaten vegetarian or vegan products in Sweden (I am a meat eater), and their stuff tasted similar to the real deal. Swedish have a lot of ecologist stuffs in their supermarket

그리고 채식주의자인데 왜 고기를 본뜬 비건푸드가 있냐는 말을 하시는 분들이 많은데 보통은 두번째 경우때문입니다. 병으로 인해서 육식이 힘들어 진 경우 대체음식의 느낌으로 갈증을 달래는 역활이지요. 물론 시작은 그렇게 되었지만 다른 이들도 먹을수 있지요. 우리나라의 경우도 이런 비건푸드가 꽤 발달된 나라이긴 한데 콩고기로 만든 함박스테이크나 버섯탕수육, 채식불고기등은 저도 먹어봤는데 상당히 먹을만했습니다.
I dont really understand why theres a vegan that decided to make a replacement for meat dishes , aint that like you dont wanna eat meat but you want your meal to look like meat.
Because vegans don't hate the taste or looks of meat, they don't like because you have to kill the animal to get it. That's why you'll see a lot of hamburgers, bacon, and chicken that are actually made of veggies or lentils or whatever. Same with vegetarians
I would also add to the previous comment that these kinds of processed vegan products are mostly used by new vegans, to help them accomodate to this lifestyle. You won't see many longterm vegans only eating these products with some veg on the side, sjnce that would be really unhealthy and unsustainable for the longterm. These products are also used as "cheat" meals, at least for me. :)
Because meat tastes delicious. We don't hate meat as a food. We hate the cruelty behind it. Sure, there are plenty of vegan meals and snacks that hold their own without comparison to a meaty food, but sometimes a grilled burger with cheese sounds tempting.
ZRo Azu im vegan but i did it for environment reasons, i still want to eat meat sort of and so i can have a meal like my family are, my mum and i make the sauce and put a small portion in another pan and i add the “no-meat meat” and she adds proper meat in the other one. it means we dont buy the meat in larger portions for me so its helping the environment and saving money
I feel like this vegan substitutes are more for those who want to become vegan, but find it hard not having animal products on their plates. Not all vegan substitutes tastes good. Actually from my experience, vegan meat usually tastes better. This vegan meats that supposedly actually imitate real meat usually taste better althought they don't really taste exactly like meat. I'm vegan and I feel like the longer you're vegan, less you go for substitutes.
I totally recommend Miyoko's Creamery for yummy tasting, dairy-free products. Miyoko basically pioneered the way for vegan cheese, aka "Cultured Nut Product".
I don't know about that caviar, but the vegan one I usually buy in Sweden has been approved by my whole family, and they love fish and caviar. But yeah, a lot of the substitutes taste really bad. There's a lot of bad ones, a lot of ok ones and a few really good ones in my opinion ^^
I think the main reason why some vegans' reactions aren't that good is because the video only shows vegan foods that are made purely to 'replace' and copy some meat foods and it does not represent at all what most vegans eat on a daily basis. Most vegans make their own foods from fresh ingredients or eat at vegan restaurants etc. These 'replacement' products are often made by non-vegans, for those who are just starting their vegan diet and don't know what to cook to eat OR just for profit and riding 'the vegan trend'. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure most vegans' reactions would be pretty much the same as josh and ollie's if they were to taste these products, because really, they don't taste like anything and have nutritional value close to zero.😅 (which is why not that many vegans eat them) AND by only representing these low quality vegan 'replacement' foods, it gives the impression of the vegan diet consisting of only tasteless, unhealthy and poor replacements for meat, instead of all the environmental friendly/ethical/healthy/DELICIOUS alternatives it has to offer to the non-vegan diet. Vegan food is so much more than these 'fake meats' and lame replacements!! Oh and i'm giving a like to this video 'cause it's always good to spark conversation on the effects of our eating habits, so thanks for that!😊
al rhiad I see a vegan video, I look at the comments and of course there are emotionally fragile vegans up in arms over nothing. It literally says in the title - "weirdest vegan replacement food challenge". If anyone came in expecting to see regular vegan foods, then they're either illiterate or stupid. Besides "vegan", all other words show that it's not going to be regular food. #1 weirdest, #2 replacement food, #3 challenge. The fact that they had to make a statement trying to calm down the folks with pitchforks is a testament to how many stupid people exist in the world. And also quite ridiculous in how many people are so emotionally attached to such superficial aspects as food they eat. I think the main reason so many vegans were up in arms over this frivolous video, is that these people are plain stupid.
I mean there is so much amazing and delicious vegan food. So why is there a need to replicate animal based food like cheese, caviar, sausages and steaks? That defies the whole idea of veganism.

True, myself and other vegans I know, eat whole foods most of the time. Substitutes are a rare occasion, like for a birthday or holiday. Those types of products are incredibly expensive and it's not realistic to be eating substitute products daily

After a while they start to crave animal products. Because being vegan is not natural for human beings. Yes, do the research. So, they'll try to look for "fake animal products". But like the very weird meats that some people eat (which we have made a video on before!) there is some REALLY weird vegan foods out there and so we wanted to make this video. My son is allergic to dairy so ham & vegan cheese is absolutely a thing in our house. The coconut cheese is definitely the least offensive I've tried.

Tofu can be a great thing, I have eaten it at times even though I am not vegen/vegitarian, and I do think its a thing that could easily be put into any diet, even if its just to make some more variation in your diet. But its kinda offensive to just push things onto people that didn't ask for it.

Idk if you’ve tried this cheese but I like the Field Roast Vegan Chao Creamy Original cheese. I’m lactose intolerant so I like to use alternatives sometimes and this is the best one that I’ve tried. It even tastes great in pasta.

@@sugakookies8063 I believe it. We don't eat Nutella or any nut butters or spreads in our house due to food allergies. I decided a long time ago to try and eat local and sustainable. I live in agricultural state so it's not that hard.
Msp 1984 Ah, that makes sense. We've had to cut out a few foods as well (due to the same reasons), and even though Nutella is sooo good, I feel like that should be one of them. Definitely can't be good for you over a long period of time (I also saw somewhere - and this might be wrong, but I thought it was interesting - that you can actually develop cancer if you get a wrong batch of palm oil. I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't put it past me😬😂)
@@sugakookies8063 anything is possible. I noticed that when we cut out nuts, and vegetable oils everyone's eczema improved tremendously. We only use animal fats now. Plant oils are usually oxidized before they are even sold and cause a lot of inflammation when eaten.

@@MiyakoSakura fat and milk are the easiest to replace. For butter, margarine is the best for cookies or tarts (sorry if it's not english words, I'm not that fluent in english :'/), or simply sunflower oil for cakes, it works pretty well.
As for milk, most of time soy milk is the best because it's rich in protéin, and bakery needs protéin to coagulate and stick the elements togeter. But it have sometimes a bad taste so when I do pâtissière cream, I do it with rice milk for example but I put some agar agar and corn flour so it can stick all the éléments together either way.
The hardest to replace is the eggs and the gelatine, But this is an whole another story

The best vegan food is whole plant food and not fake animal food. I’ve been a vegan for 15 years for health reasons. Why try to make and eat fake meat, cheese and shrimp when you’re not going to eat the real thing? Very brave of you two to try those hideous items. LOL. cheese has been made with oil instead of dairy for years. The cheaper individually packaged sliced cheese many of us grew up with is made that way.
the cheap, yellow, individually sliced cheese is an American thing. I have only ever eaten real cheese as a child. The American cheese (the oil one) is banned here because of the preservatives in it is not legal here... I am not talking yellow cheddar tho, I am talking about that "claims to be real, but its not"

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with vegans. I have two good friends who are vegans. But what I don't understand is, why does the vegetable have to look like a steak? Or like eggs? Or like caviar?

Usually its just to make the "transition" from real steak to something that's supposed to be similar. It usually contains the same spices, tastes quite similar, but calling it replacement food is kinda ridiculous. Also vegans usually don't buy that stuff, cause its quite expensive.
A lot of vegan used to be meat eater. So it’s normal for them to miss the taste and smell of meat, but won’t eat it because it comes from an animal who got killed horribly just so people can eat them. Plus there’s nothing wrong in calling vegan food like “chicken, cheese, etc....” they’re just a cruelty free alternative to real meat, seafood, and dairy.

Most vegans go vegan to stop paying for animal cruelty. Not because we dislike the taste of flesh. So if one can have something that TASTES like chicken, but doesn't need a chicken to die, why would that be a problem??
I've eaten vegetarian or vegan products in Sweden (I am a meat eater), and their stuff tasted similar to the real deal. Swedish have a lot of ecologist stuffs in their supermarket

어떤 이유이든 상관없습니다. 자신의 선택이니까요. 최근 연구결과로 강한 강도의 비건생활은 오히려 면역력과 건강전반을 악화시킨다는 결과가 있지만 그역시 자신의 선택입니다.
중요한것은 자신의 선택을 타인에게 강요하지 않아야 한다는 점이죠. 최근 도를 넘은 채식주의자들로 인해서 안티비건이 생긴것등을 생각해보면... 자명하죠.
그리고 채식주의자인데 왜 고기를 본뜬 비건푸드가 있냐는 말을 하시는 분들이 많은데 보통은 두번째 경우때문입니다. 병으로 인해서 육식이 힘들어 진 경우 대체음식의 느낌으로 갈증을 달래는 역활이지요. 물론 시작은 그렇게 되었지만 다른 이들도 먹을수 있지요. 우리나라의 경우도 이런 비건푸드가 꽤 발달된 나라이긴 한데 콩고기로 만든 함박스테이크나 버섯탕수육, 채식불고기등은 저도 먹어봤는데 상당히 먹을만했습니다.
덧붙이자면 한국인들의 대다수는 콩고기를 드셔본적이있습니다..ㅎㅎ 짜파게티에 들어있는 고기가 콩고기라는 사실~~
고기도 고기나름이지 단백질 비중 높은 부위는 70넘은 노인에게 육식위주의 식습관이 오히려 권장돠는데 뭐하러 콩 먹음?

I dont really understand why theres a vegan that decided to make a replacement for meat dishes , aint that like you dont wanna eat meat but you want your meal to look like meat.
Because vegans don't hate the taste or looks of meat, they don't like because you have to kill the animal to get it. That's why you'll see a lot of hamburgers, bacon, and chicken that are actually made of veggies or lentils or whatever. Same with vegetarians
I would also add to the previous comment that these kinds of processed vegan products are mostly used by new vegans, to help them accomodate to this lifestyle. You won't see many longterm vegans only eating these products with some veg on the side, sjnce that would be really unhealthy and unsustainable for the longterm. These products are also used as "cheat" meals, at least for me. :)
Because meat tastes delicious. We don't hate meat as a food. We hate the cruelty behind it. Sure, there are plenty of vegan meals and snacks that hold their own without comparison to a meaty food, but sometimes a grilled burger with cheese sounds tempting.
ZRo Azu im vegan but i did it for environment reasons, i still want to eat meat sort of and so i can have a meal like my family are, my mum and i make the sauce and put a small portion in another pan and i add the “no-meat meat” and she adds proper meat in the other one. it means we dont buy the meat in larger portions for me so its helping the environment and saving money

I feel like this vegan substitutes are more for those who want to become vegan, but find it hard not having animal products on their plates. Not all vegan substitutes tastes good. Actually from my experience, vegan meat usually tastes better. This vegan meats that supposedly actually imitate real meat usually taste better althought they don't really taste exactly like meat. I'm vegan and I feel like the longer you're vegan, less you go for substitutes.

제주도가서 처음으로 녹두전을 먹었는데 전 정말 떡갈비아니면 동그랑땡인줄 알았거든요..!
독두전에 기본적으로 돼지고기 갈려서 들어갑니다. 기름에 돼지기름을 섞어서 부치는곳도 있구요.
비건자체가 건강보다는 동물보호에 더 초점이 맞춰져있지만..ㅎㅎ 준비된 음식들이 굉장히 가공된 음식들 같아서 몸에 거 좋을진 모르겠네요ㅎㅎ

I don't know about that caviar, but the vegan one I usually buy in Sweden has been approved by my whole family, and they love fish and caviar. But yeah, a lot of the substitutes taste really bad. There's a lot of bad ones, a lot of ok ones and a few really good ones in my opinion ^^

I think the main reason why some vegans' reactions aren't that good is because the video only shows vegan foods that are made purely to 'replace' and copy some meat foods and it does not represent at all what most vegans eat on a daily basis.
Most vegans make their own foods from fresh ingredients or eat at vegan restaurants etc. These 'replacement' products are often made by non-vegans, for those who are just starting their vegan diet and don't know what to cook to eat OR just for profit and riding 'the vegan trend'.
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure most vegans' reactions would be pretty much the same as josh and ollie's if they were to taste these products, because really, they don't taste like anything and have nutritional value close to zero.😅 (which is why not that many vegans eat them)
AND by only representing these low quality vegan 'replacement' foods, it gives the impression of the vegan diet consisting of only tasteless, unhealthy and poor replacements for meat, instead of all the environmental friendly/ethical/healthy/DELICIOUS alternatives it has to offer to the non-vegan diet. Vegan food is so much more than these 'fake meats' and lame replacements!!
Oh and i'm giving a like to this video 'cause it's always good to spark conversation on the effects of our eating habits, so thanks for that!😊

al rhiad I see a vegan video, I look at the comments and of course there are emotionally fragile vegans up in arms over nothing. It literally says in the title - "weirdest vegan replacement food challenge". If anyone came in expecting to see regular vegan foods, then they're either illiterate or stupid. Besides "vegan", all other words show that it's not going to be regular food. #1 weirdest, #2 replacement food, #3 challenge. The fact that they had to make a statement trying to calm down the folks with pitchforks is a testament to how many stupid people exist in the world. And also quite ridiculous in how many people are so emotionally attached to such superficial aspects as food they eat.
I think the main reason so many vegans were up in arms over this frivolous video, is that these people are plain stupid.

I know this video is so old, but I hope you guys have experienced better vegan food by now. You need to go to a vegan restaurant-that will convert you lol. My mom is vegan and we always try to new places out for her birthday and even my hubby has been up for it-vegan food can be soooo good, especially when it isn’t all the fake//processed stuff. You guys come to Nashville, TN (USA) and we’ll take you the The Wild Cow-it is amazing!! Good on you though, trying it. 😂
