For me, favorite parts were the drawings, yes, as well as the crafts and the surprise costumes from the Tickle Trunk! And Mr. Dressup's calm yet adventurous and cheerful manner were what made it all work so well. 😊
What made him great was that he didn't have to be loud or colorful. He talked straight. Made us laugh and shared his world. It never felt like watching a show but instead like we were talking to a grandfather. Didn't hurt that he looks like mine lol.
What a great man. Grew up watching his show and it isn't until my middle age that I realized what a great man he really was and what a great contribution he made to all of us growing up.
those are the good old days my children always ask me questions about the shows ive watched and i say my favorite was is and always be mr. dressup it makes me cry when u dont see shows like these anymore. memories,memories...
The old expression "compare apples to oranges" actually works well in this case. Just as oranges & apples are delicious, just used in different ways, so Mr. Rogers & Mr. Dressup both gave children wonderful ideas to use in the outside world. Rare & lucky the child (on the Canada-US border) who grew up with both.
I used to get ASMR highs watching mr. dressup do arts and crafts as a kid. back then I had no idea what that feeling in my head was until years later. RIP Ernie Coombs, you brought joy and amusement to a generation of kids, a joy and amusement the next generation will never understand.
Mr Dressup (Ernie Coombs) was an American immigrant. He was born and raised in Lewiston Maine and came here in his 30s to work with Fred Rogers. the woman who voiced Casey is named Judith Lawrence. she is originally from Australia moved here in her 20s. She was a kindergarten teacher before Mr Dressup she now lives in BC
Let's not compare him and Mr Rogers and say who's better. They were both amazing men who had a passion for entertaining children and making them happy. Let's just remember them for that
Same here. And dare I say it, Mr. dresser was even better than Mr. Rogers. 'Under the umbrella tree' is another wonderful kids show that aired during the late 80's and early 90s
I miss the days when good men were prominent in the education and guidance of children. In these days the morning t.v was full of Mr. Dressup, Fred Penner, Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, The Friendly Giant, The narrator from Hammy Hamster, Reading Rainbow's Levar Burton, Today's Special, and some good men on the Muppet Show as guests and Sesame Street. All positive, kind, big hearted men and excellent male roll models for boys and girls. Today's landscape seems full of cold hearted men, and women, all aspiring to ideals of power above and beyond the grasp of children, or just ditzy and condescending and not telling stories or taking us on adventures of the imagination.. These men were honest, slow and soft talking, kind, but strong, and approachable. I think we are missing something very special in the media these days for children.
That's what happens when you let progressives completely dominate the education system over decades, now they're too busy indoctrinating children to be good little liberal idiots rather than actually teach them life skills or history.
If people acted like this now they wouldnt be allowed children, prob called a pedophile. Not trying to be funny, just saying how I'd see how society would view people like this now. Such simpler times back then for sure.
My grandmother and brother and I used to watch this show a lot when we were kids XD. My grandmother liked Chester the Crow and 2 other puppets. She also liked the arts the arts and crafts part of it. I wish shows like this still were on TV. Educating them about day to day stuff and showing them all kinds arts and crafts :D. Also I think there needs to be a biopic of this great mans life. He deserves to be introduced to kids of today.
I'm in my 60s now - I so well remember watching my two favourite shows, Mr. Dressup and Friendly Giant while all my older siblings were at school. Watching this is bittersweet - I hope kids now are able to have someone like Mr. Dressup - he was the funny uncle full of energy and ideas. I would watch the show and then ask my mom for bags, or toilet paper tubes or whatever it was that he'd made something out of that day. I honestly think that the relaxed pace of his show - and Mr. Rogers - was good for kids. It gave us time to breath and think and just watch and listen - and they never talked down to us, Mr. Dressup spoke to his audience - not at. This almost brings a tear to my eye.
Loved this show when I was a kid, I always thought of him as a tall skinny version of my grandpa lol awesome show just remembered it and decided to check it out agai
I would love to see the first episode from 1967. Mr Dressup ran from1967 to 1996. That was an incredible run for a kids show. I watched it as a kid starting from when it first aired in 1967 on CBC.
"Mr. Dressup I really loved during the Casey and Finnegan era! I also personally preferred him to Mr. Rogers myself because he was more lively where he didn't always just sit on a chair and talk for hours and hours like Mr. Rogers did!"
Wow! I haven't seen Casey and Finnegan for a long long time! But I wonder if anyone else felt the same as I did when I was 5. This whole show was depressing and it used to creep me out...but my mom made me watch it. :(
All Canadian kids remember. this, concerned childrens advertisers PSA's and Trying to fit the word "Saskatchewan" on the tiny piece of map when colouring.
I'm here after reading a CBC story about Judith Lawrence (Casey and Finnegan puppeteer). Oddly, the story suggests we can view Mr. Dressup on "the archives" (presumably meaning the CBC archives) but then links to this video on TH-cam.
it was SUPER rare for that owl painting at 1:18 to open its eyes and talk with Mr D. I would always hope for that every time it was in frame. any footage of that anywhere?
Yeah looking at it today, Mr. Dress Up would make me wonder about the guy. Never mind the tickle trunk. Creepy as hell but it was pretty cool as a kid I guess.
I wasn't even born when this was cancelled. I watched it on a Vhs recording or whatever it was called. And now I know why I called that dressup trunk in my room the tickle trunk.
Mr.Dressup "Something that comes from chickens". Me "Eggs". I am 45 and I still answer like a little child. When he says eggs I start clapping because I was right.
It makes sense that they would record the show, and then the following year air in on TV. That’s pretty normal especially if they recorded it at the end of 1985
"(they) have a paper bag inside"! ! Now show me some drawing... it would be cool to have every drawing sequence edited together. May you Rest In Peace MR Dresssup
This show seemed pretty boring compared to the GOD-Host/Best person ever to do shows for children MR.Fred Rogers. Which was my personal hero growing up! Mr.Rogers had more likability, seemed more interesting and natural. Can't beat him not one bit. I wish that I grew up in his neighborhood as a kid. :( R.I.P Mr.Rogers and Mr.Dressup. BTW, my GF superwoman did bring me here.
I disagree. Mr.Rogers was always clean cut and friendly. Snazzy dresser and natural with no hate in his soul at all. I wish to be like him when I'm an old man. Mr.Rogers was never a pedophile. That was pushing it too far! He actually created the whole show that "Mr.Dressup" ended up doing. It was more than a coincidence that the two shows were so similar.
my favorite part of Mr dressup was always his drawing :)
Kristy Crossman huh mine to lol
For me, favorite parts were the drawings, yes, as well as the crafts and the surprise costumes from the Tickle Trunk! And Mr. Dressup's calm yet adventurous and cheerful manner were what made it all work so well. 😊
@@streetofdreams4538 100% agreed he made the morings worth getting up for
R.I.P Mr. Dressup. You were a true Canadian Hero.
Ernie Coombs was actually American. Born and raised in Vermont.
What made him great was that he didn't have to be loud or colorful. He talked straight. Made us laugh and shared his world. It never felt like watching a show but instead like we were talking to a grandfather. Didn't hurt that he looks like mine lol.
+scott mcketsy Same here, Actually My grandfather looked and talked just like Ernie. i use to think they were the same person when i was a kid
Me too!
scott mcketsy so true man i wish he was still on best program for kids
*COLOURFUL
What a great man. Grew up watching his show and it isn't until my middle age that I realized what a great man he really was and what a great contribution he made to all of us growing up.

this man is an excellent artist
The old expression "compare apples to oranges" actually works well in this case. Just as oranges & apples are delicious, just used in different ways, so Mr. Rogers & Mr. Dressup both gave children wonderful ideas to use in the outside world.
Rare & lucky the child (on the Canada-US border) who grew up with both.
Oh yeah, similar but different
It is one thing to have talent, but another to share it and make it interesting to kids. Love him and Mr. Rogers and Fred Penner.
Casey and Finigan! OMG what memories are swirling around in my head! Thanks!
I met Mr. Dressup years ago i just wish i brought my camera to get a picture taken with him but back then cameras weren't as great as they are now.
Thank you Mr. Dress up, you were my babysitter for 3 years. I wanted to get in that tickle trunk and I wanted to draw just like you!!
I used to get ASMR highs watching mr. dressup do arts and crafts as a kid. back then I had no idea what that feeling in my head was until years later. RIP Ernie Coombs, you brought joy and amusement to a generation of kids, a joy and amusement the next generation will never understand.
lol... Me too! I always looked forward to his sketching.
Ernie Coombs was good friends with Fred Rogers. Stands to reason they'd both made a gentle paced series worthy of children.

I used to love this show growing up in 80s
Wow. I didn't even exist that year! lol The memories watching this show as a child. I'm born in 1987. Just a year before. Thanks for sharing!
Let's not compare him and Mr Rogers and say who's better. They were both amazing men who had a passion for entertaining children and making them happy. Let's just remember them for that

I miss Fred penner
If people acted like this now they wouldnt be allowed children, prob called a pedophile. Not trying to be funny, just saying how I'd see how society would view people like this now. Such simpler times back then for sure.
Holy shit the drawing just pulled me right back in, 30 years later
My grandmother and brother and I used to watch this show a lot when we were kids XD. My grandmother liked Chester the Crow and 2 other puppets. She also liked the arts the arts and crafts part of it. My mom watched this show all the time when she was a kid. I actually saw this show once on TV around 10 years ago.

I used to watch this all the time, love you Mr Dress up
I love Canadian Mr. Rogers. Just like I still love American Mr. Dressup.
As a kid growing up in the early 80s, one of my most precious memories was seeing Ernie Combs eating at the Lumber Jack Restaurant in Windsor, On.
Nice he was in Windsor where you saw him.
I learned about Mr. Dressup from Super Geeked Up/Super Knocked Up WHOO HOOO!!!! Thanks Tonya Dodds!!!!
This is literally my childhood.
I saw him live when I was kid...sure miss those days!!
Love watching Mr dress up as a kid
when I was little. I used to get so Upset when it was time for Mr.Rogers had to go. I wanted more Mr.Rogers, I didn't want to wait for tomorrow. lol
I loved watching his shows growing up
MY CANADIAN DREAM I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN FOREVER
It so weird seeing this again...
This is basically the Canadian Mister Rogers' Neighborhood!!
Don't insult Mr Dressup like that!
NO. THIS IS THE PG. MISTER ROGERS IS THE AMERICAN MR DRESSUP.
Mr dressup came a year before mister rogers. mr dressup aired in 67, mister rogers in 68
what is most consistent to me in this & Mr. Rogers's show are the FECKIN CREEPY PUPPETS. 😢
The good ol' days. Brings a tear to my eye.
Wow this took me back! Loved the retro ending haven't seen it since they changed it to the train
Wow! I haven't seen Casey and Finnegan for a long long time! But I wonder if anyone else felt the same as I did when I was 5. This whole show was depressing and it used to creep me out...but my mom made me watch it. :(

This is the best show ever!!!
🏡 'Milk cartons look a bit like tall houses' 😅 😍😍😍 they dooo! 😀😁
Is this the Canadian version of Mr. Rogers neighborhood?
Miss Mr Dressup!
+Kyra Herzog CBC should have kept this show on the air in re-runs. Big mistake on their part.
ah, back when supermarkets still had paper bags :)
They still doing many places I can't even get plastic bags where I am anymore
Happy birthday Mr dressup!!!
it was SUPER rare for that owl painting at 1:18 to open its eyes and talk with Mr D. I would always hope for that every time it was in frame. any footage of that anywhere?
One of my favourites too: "to-wit to-woo, to-wit to-wee......"
That Owl stood out in my mind too
The owl actually scared me a little when I was younger!
hoho! love mr. dressup! mmaarroowww! us kitties like to play, too!
This is why kids are so messed up these days. No Mr. Dressup's anymore. No imagination.
Yeah looking at it today, Mr. Dress Up would make me wonder about the guy. Never mind the tickle trunk. Creepy as hell but it was pretty cool as a kid I guess.
I used to love this show Mr Roger's
Don't even remember watching the show but I know that I did and now I know why I call them tickle trunks
I wasn't even born when this was cancelled. I watched it on a Vhs recording or whatever it was called. And now I know why I called that dressup trunk in my room the tickle trunk.
I loved watching his shows growing up. But I wonder what ever happened to the tickle truck?
+undertaker666dead CBC museum in Toronto.

Mr.Dressup "Something that comes from chickens".
Me "Eggs".
I am 45 and I still answer like a little child. When he says eggs I start clapping because I was right.
i just searched Canadian Mr Rogers and found it xD
Truly amazing
Loved Mr. Dressup even more than Mr. Rogers. idk The cardigan sweater that Mr. Rogers wore read pedophile.
mr dressup you are the best
I remember hearing about his wife's death in 92 my mom so sad
"Copyright 1985," in the closing credits.
It makes sense that they would record the show, and then the following year air in on TV. That’s pretty normal especially if they recorded it at the end of 1985
poor man's Mr. Rogers
He was soooo much better than Mr. Rogers...
I miss him.
Holy fuck balls.I use watch this show when I was kid.
So wholesome
this is soo much better than Mr. Rogers
Thanks for posting this.
According to the copyright notice at the end credits, this was from 1985?
This show has some Mr.Rogers in it.
I wish I can draw like that!
Never seen him before, but glad to see he doesn't seem creepy like Mr Rogers...
Seriously, tho, why am I watching this?
"(they) have a paper bag inside"! ! Now show me some drawing... it would be cool to have every drawing sequence edited together. May you Rest In Peace MR Dresssup
MCMLXXXV is 1985 in Roman Numerals and is seen at the end of this video.
I love Finnegan.
Mr. Dressup > Mister Rogers
well they were both American immigrants
+Maeur Ernie Coombs (Mr Dressup) no he was dual because he was born in Lewiston Maine and moved to Canada in his late 30's
Ohh. You meant they immigrated *to* Canada. TIL
+Rhianna Barr Regaurdless, they were both worldwide icons, and lovable men. So was Bob Homme...
...at least we still have Fred Penner
DakariKingMykan and Raffi
I’m pretty sure this was late 70s not mid 80s... I had to have a train set because of this show
For this to make sense watch "Pt. 2" first then "Pt .1".
this is something I always wanted to know..was Casey a girl or a boy?
(s)he was intentionally gender-neutral to appeal to any child in the audience!
Don't starve brought me here.
canada's very own Mr Rogers except younger and more interesting
I was thinking of a lemon you sicko
hahaha. well played.
This show seemed pretty boring compared to the GOD-Host/Best person ever to do shows for children MR.Fred Rogers. Which was my personal hero growing up! Mr Rogers was so monotonous and just straight up pedophilic. This is just great

+ANDYDAVIRGO mr dressup came first in 1967, mister rogers aired in 1968
this was a long long long long time ago
