Peregrine Falcon Egg Hatches / Union County Falcon Cam Highlight

Moments ago we got our first glimpse of a peregrine falcon hatchling at the Union County #FalconCam!
The first egg pipped yesterday (second today), which is where the tiny (1.5 oz) hatchling breaks through its eggshell using a small protrusion on its upper bill, called an egg tooth. This gives them their first breath of outside air. Over the next 24-48 hours they hatch!
The adults will continue to incubate, chirp (to encourage others to hatch) and brood to keep young warm as they are very vulnerable after hatching.
