Nice one mate. My alternator belt got wrecked on Christmas day because the alternator pulley decided to come lose. I think this is the only video showing how to deal with the belt tensioner on the 2.2 diesels, or anything else for that matter. The tip about the 5m drill bit to hold the tension off is valuable. I may have stumbled across it but probably would have kidnapped an extra body to operate it. I have to get the alternator off mine to secure the pulley so now Iv'e seen your video and with my car having around 113000 on the clock. Replacing the idler and the tension pulleys while I'm in there seems to be a good idea too. Thanks again and happy new year.
Glad you found the video useful, I have since had to change the alternator pulley and air con pump. Unfortunately did not video it. Heard horror stories of worn freewheel alternator pulley’s seizing up and destroying belt. Advice on freewheel alternator pulley’s is you will need special spline socket to remove. I ordered at 13pc alternator socket kit from eBay it was fine. It was tight to undo, you have to jam up the alternator with a screwdriver and I used an impact gun to remove. If you ever need to change air con clutch pulley consider changing complete air con pump and condenser, the eBay clutch pulley are not good quality. My original air con pulley failed at approx 145k miles. All the best.
@@repairrestorefixer1242 Thanks for the heads up. My alternator pulley seems to have come lose from the shaft. I was hoping it was just a nut that had come undone but after cutting away what seems to be a rubber cap over the end of the pulley, it doesn't feel like there is a nut in there. I'm going to take the alternator off this weekend to see what I'm up against because it is still working despite the pulley issues. I got on to a company called Autodoc and thanks to your part number info in the video I got both the new Pulleys for £40. I probably wont get them till the middle of next week or even the week after. Ebay has the idler for £60 and I'd have to buy the complete tensioner for £150. So thanks for the tips on that. I have a second car so I can take my time and strip out all the old stuff while I wait. I'll keep you posted on how it all goes. But thanks again..
I think I supported at bottom of gearbox bell housing where gearbox meets engine. This is ok because it’s just taking a little weight. Engine won’t lower past the subframe anyway due to crank pulley. Or you can put a piece of wood on the edge of sump plate where the bolts go to spread the load.

Thanks man! This did help indeed.
the tenshion pulley keeps falling of ?3 times in two months do you know what the problem could be , it keeps coming loose ?
Do you know what the number of the tensioner bearing was?
Hmm, 6303 (17x47x14 mm)? :)
Very helpful. Appreciate the part numbers too.
Where on the engine did you put the jack? (guessing not the sump as that is thin)
