All I needed was some inspiration! I’ve been to that area 4 times and still haven’t caught the elusive “silver bullet”. Rainbows I can catch no problem. I know it’ll happen this summer. Thanks for the great video for the envious fisherman like myself!!!
Amazing video. Youre by far the best kayak kokanee fisherman on youtube in terms of entertaining videos. The bite from that 2nd big kokanee was insane. Rod just bent straight back. Awesome!
1st fish you missed right out of Cresent Was a koaknee, hard to keep those jumpers connected, luckily now that are all 200 ft deep in the middle by the dam, by the time we reel them to the surface they are ready for the net, some nice 4.5 and 5.45 fish yesterday me and my wife, took 2 guys out at 6:30 am when coming back in they were shore fishing, fished till 10am to fill thier limits included 8 bows biggest 6 lbs
I live in Washington and am working on getting a kayak. You are in one of the groups I'm in and fell in love with your photos/editing. Keep it up. Can't wait to be out there too
Another Great Video Tyler. You were lookin' a little nervous about hooking into a 2nd one. But BANG !!! You got home early enough....6pm would have been OK too. LOL
Awesome video! Tyler, would you please do a video breaking down this fishery with times of year and access points. Your video breaking down the Lake Chelan fishery was excellent and will help planning trips to that lake.
I,ve just started on kokanee . The lake I've been fishing has many in the 17 - 19 inch range but the only time I can catch them is first 2 hours of sunlight . Any suggestions for the rest of the day ?
Awesome video, I love watching them pin the rod when they hit. Are they right on the surface? It didn’t look like you had any weight clipped on. Thanks for sharing.
Great video Tyler. Since I have gotten more interested in Kokanee fishing...bin catching up on your videos. Though I do have a question... Is there another way to preserve Kokanee other than smoking them? I Don't have a smoker.
Love your videos I'm getting a passport 12 in a couple of months There is a premium kokanee lake right by me, could you elaborate on this set up please? Rod action, main line, weight of the rig and trolling speed? Thank you
@@spiltmilt That's awesome man! We saw two fish caught by you and Austin Moser. The funny thing is I thought you looked familiar and I didn't know I was a subscriber until I got back home to Maple Valley😆. Maybe I'll get to chat with you next time. Keep em coming bro, you do a great job✌🏾
Spilt Milt Productions bleed them bonk. Let’s the heart pump out the blood before it dies. I rip the gills with my finger and then bonk. I’m sure it doesn’t really mater though lol. Those Kokanee are as big as some kasilof river Alaska sockeye. And they haven’t even went to salt. Kenai river they average larger though. Catch some in the mid to high teens on some years.
Question! I just subscribed to your channel recently and was curious as to which boat ramp were you closest to I looked on the map. Roosevelt is a Big Lake this is the 4lb kokanee video
Old Town Topwater 120 PDL. I like the hands free reverse, more stable, more space, cockpit is laid out better for fishing and filming (e.g. I never lose stuff under my seat like do with Hobie), and better warranty.
What measuring board is that? I've been looking for a good one for my kayak, I have been binge-watching your videos and am excited for ice off here in Utah so I can go chase some kokes!
Hi! Was thinking about buying that blue rod you helped engineer (design?), but I noticed you've got a red rod this year. Don't know if it's a sponsorship, but think you could tell me which rod and reel combo has been successful for you in Washington?

Not using the swates because you’re not using weight or just felt like switching it up? I just ordered the blue back. Did you ever use 4oz on the blue backs or only go as high as 3 to get to depth?
1. I'm not using the Swate Bluebacks as they are underpowered for these big fish. 2. I would not run more than 2 or 3 oz on the Blueback. 3. I don't run Swate rods anymore because I disagree with how that company treats its employees.
Ah damn, wish I would have known earlier. Ordered it because I am new to Kokanee and was trying to emulate your formula. Thanks for all the videos, can’t wait to get out next weekend.

Kayak cooler/fish bags that I really enjoy have always been elusive. For Kokanee I use a Performance Fishing Gear cooler bag from Columbia but they no longer make it so I am still in the lurch on what's next.
Wow! these Kokanee are bigger than a lot of Coho Salmon I caught in the green river this year lol
agreed!
Wow, two Trophy Kokes, Great Video
Hard to believe that second kokanee is only 4 lbs! I would have believed 6 without a second thought. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Had to watch this again to give me the positive mojo to go catch them this weekend!! Caught my first Koke there last January. Back at it again!!
Didn’t catch any kokes but the trout we on the bite 2 of the three days.

Great video! I bet those fish are extra hard to land in kayak trying to net solo. Those are some absolute slabs!
Awesome! I'm shortening my leaders next I go. Thanks!
Incredible day on the water! Congratulations on two fantastic kokes.

This is going to be a great video.
Looking forward to it, also.
Hopefully it's still good that year in Lake Roosevelt.
Things are looking good for 2021. You just never know with this lake.
Can't wait!
I want to catch one these the spring of '22 when I'm finally living out there.
I'd like to tag along time permit. Great catch!

Thanks Tyler
Hey brother what fishfinder do you use/recommend for kayaks. You inspired me to get a kayak thanks
I recommend either the Helix 5 G2 series from Humminbird or the Garmin Striker Series.
Great video! Any guidance on how you are curing the corn?
White shoepeg corn, drained, 1 tbsp kosher salt, one can worth of tuna oil. That's it
I,ve just started on kokanee . The lake I've been fishing has many in the 17 - 19 inch range but the only time I can catch them is first 2 hours of sunlight . Any suggestions for the rest of the day ?
Are fishing deeper as the day progresses?
Great job 👍
Tyler have u encountered any kokanee above kettle river on Roseavelt?
No but radio tracking studies have found Kokanee moving up that way in the fall
Sweet video
Awesome video, I love watching them pin the rod when they hit. Are they right on the surface? It didn’t look like you had any weight clipped on. Thanks for sharing.
Yes they are surface feeding but water temps are pushing 60 so they will drop soon
Great video Tyler! Question: was the leader that broke tied by you or the factory? I am always suspect of any factory tied leader. Thanks.
I tied it. My fault.
Great video Tyler.

I don't see you using downrigging or planers. How are you keeping depth consistently? Just the dodger and speed control?

Are you tipping your trolling hooks/spoon with roe? What roe type?
I use corn
dang you need a rear-view mirror so you don't miss those jumps! Nice!!
Do u not bonk your fish and bleed them when u catch them ? Those are some beautys man 👌🏼 nicely done 👍🏼
Yes bonk and bleed all salmonids

Southern end of the lake Spring Canyon and Crescent Bay are good choices
I am curious, what Month are you fishing for Kokanee in Lake Roosevelt?
April until July
That looks like a nice rod and reel combo with the left hand retrieve line counter. What model are Rod and reel?
The rod is a Santiam Kokanee rod bit.ly/30xH6r5 and the reel is a Daiwa Lexa 100 LC
Spilt Milt Productions, thanks, has the rod got enough back bone to troll with some weight attached?
What kayak are you fishing out of? I've seen a lot if your videos and you used to fish out of a hobie, why the switch?
Old Town Topwater 120 PDL. I like the hands free reverse, more stable, more space, cockpit is laid out better for fishing and filming (e.g. I never lose stuff under my seat like do with Hobie), and better warranty.
What measuring board is that? I've been looking for a good one for my kayak, I have been binge-watching your videos and am excited for ice off here in Utah so I can go chase some kokes!
I am curious if the Kokane is planted every year from WDFW or the tribal I guess they do not spawn in the creeks that join Lake Roosevelt?
All of the fish I catch are wild. Never caught a hatchery Kokanee in that lake
Nice. Did you put in at Spring Canyon?
Crescent Bay
It didn't look like you were using any weight? Is that true? BTW awesome catch.
Yup they feed near the surface in the spring
Do you ever get the second rig stuck on the bottom when you stop to fight or net a fish?
No because I generally keep moving or bring the other gear in
Great video! How much line are you letting out on Roosevelt...And how much weight are you using to sink it. Keep up the great videos.
100', no lead
@@spiltmilt so you were just running pretty much "top water" nothing to make it sink! that's great!
Where do you launch at I'm just getting into kokanee fishing and I'm looking for a place to start thx
Depends on the time of year but Spring Canyon is the best place to launch on the lower lake.
@@spiltmilt well I guess this time of year haha OK thx I'll try that place
Hi! Was thinking about buying that blue rod you helped engineer (design?), but I noticed you've got a red rod this year. Don't know if it's a sponsorship, but think you could tell me which rod and reel combo has been successful for you in Washington?
The Swate "blue" rod is more suited to smaller Kokanee 16" of less. For the bigger fish I prefer Santiam fishing rods featured in this video.
They don't have hatchery Kokanee anymore, they ended that program, so all you get is unclipped ones.
Yes I know but this video is several years old
What day were you there? I was there May 31 and June 1 fishing that bay. We hooked a few rainbows but no Kokanee
June 5

LOL! Yeah the adrenal glands got going when that big Kokanee came out front under the kayak.
Not using the swates because you’re not using weight or just felt like switching it up? I just ordered the blue back. Did you ever use 4oz on the blue backs or only go as high as 3 to get to depth?
I’m sure it has to do with his trolling speed and depth the fish are feeding at and thermocline
1. I'm not using the Swate Bluebacks as they are underpowered for these big fish. 2. I would not run more than 2 or 3 oz on the Blueback. 3. I don't run Swate rods anymore because I disagree with how that company treats its employees.

No worries they are great rods and won't let you down.
Was you using lead line and how many colors to get how deep ?
No leaded line. Just flat lined 100' behind the kayak
What are your favorite months to target Kokanee on Roosevelt?
i lived here all my life and didn't know they were here lol

What month did you go for this video?
You need to hit up flaming gorge caught my first Kokanee with two friends the other day er limited out average size twenty inch they’re huge
