I bought a 1800cc Astra Estate from a dealer in Nottinghamshire inside was mint exterior was excellent, mileage 69000. All was fine until I looked underneath at the back I couldn't believe how rusty it was, even the cast iron lip on the engine were the sump is bolted to the bloc was corroded. Some time later and several cans of primer, and underseal, I happen to look at the previous owners in the log book and found it was last registered in Scotland. Well I would normally avoid any Scottish cars but as the external condition was excellent and it was 200 miles from Scotland I didn't give it a thought.

Yeah I had a few rusty Scottish ones but not to this extreme! This was just a case of negligent bidding! Should've done my research and checks

I try and avoid Scottish cars where possible, I have had lots of bad experiences with rust on them, hope you get your money back on it!

Fingers crossed! Yes a lot of the cars here are Eastern/Western Group part exchanges like this one!

Hard times, could be losing on an Audi too had oil pump and sensors, timing belt kits and can't get rid of oil pressure fault so it's proving quite hard to stay positive at the moment! I'll be back with more

I was looking at items (not cars) at a Wilsons auction which had 40% + VAT fees!! you need to have real restraint when bidding

Luckily they're cheaper with the cars!

Buying a Scottish registered Mazda 3 is asking for rust unfortunately. Shame as otherwise it looked tidy enough.

If I'd done my basic checks I'd have known! It's a shame I've had a fair few Scottish cars off Wilsons and done well off them, including my 22 year old BMW which is very tidy and rust free!

We've all made mistakes. Be interesting to see what you're down after sale fees. Maybe £350?

I reckon it is. £250/300 worth of panels. In the right hands, someone who can weld/paint the cars got to be worth £3k minimum. Sadly I don't know a decent welder, last car I bought that needed just the Sills was sat around for 6 months with a chunk of change tied up in it so not for me!
