    I am a Buddhist, and I think this is an accurate and a fair description of the essentials of Buddhism. I also appreciate the objective and calm approach that continued throughout the lecture, as well as some parallels drawn between Buddhist and Islamic concepts. Great job! 👍

    Desires, the want the ego are the main problems in life. Children should be taught the difference between the want and the need from early age.

    The Quran's answer to the question of sorrow
    وَمَنْ يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
    And whoever is saved from the covetousness of his soul-they are the successful ones.
    (Sūrat al-Hashr No.59, Āyat 9)
    And they (believers) will say, “Praise to Allah, who has removed from us [all] sorrow. Indeed, our Lord is Forgiving and Appreciative

    Buddhism is not nihilism like Schopenhauer! Its the middle way, no extremes. Western philosophers didnt go too deeply into Buddhism.

    Its not about no thought. Its about not grasping any thought. The mind does quiet down. Mara is Shaytan, or some think it is our mental negatvities.

    Buddhists have a meditation practice called Brahmavihara, meaning “Abodes of Brahman” which are essentially meditations on the attributes of ﷲ. So it seems clear that he was a monotheistic teacher

    • @amber40494
      @amber40494 ปีที่แล้ว

      The brahmaviharas cover loving kindness, compassion, joy in others success, and equanimity.

    • @amber40494
      @amber40494 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not monotheistic. They're practices to increase your level of love and compassion for all beings. They raise your level of virtue, they "purify" the mind. They have nothing to do with God.

      @@amber40494 I’ve read much of the Pali literature and I found it very monotheistic. You can say “it has nothing to do with God” but God is literally in the name. Buddha was against polytheism and idolatry, so people mistake him for an atheist, but he certainly teaches a supreme reality of the universe that we call God.

    • @amber40494
      @amber40494 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@microcosm1957guess it depends on what you mean by God.

      He teaches universal law, but he does not praise a God or pray or worship.

    skip to 37:18 for the practical part... edit: i take it back... this talk is unfortunately focused on scripture and high minded concepts etc.. not much useful teaching... more toward 40:00 is useful

    Buddha, in reality is much older than Hinduism. If Hinduism is oldest religion, how come you find references of Buddha in Hindu manuscripts? Infact the Hindu Brahmins captured all Buddhist temples, persecuted Buddhist and turned all these into Hinduism. There is no archaeological evidence of Hindu existence in India but all the oldest archaeological evidence points towards Buddhism.

      @Onoff832 lol Hindu ancient scriptures mentions Buddha and you say Buddhism grew from Hinduism? Lol... Hindus actually destroyed the Buddhist religion by bulldozing their Monetary and converting them into Hindu Temples...

      It wasn't called Hinduism during Buddha's life--They're called Vedic tradition

      How old is dhammapada? Ambedkar was a great person but ambedkarites seem to believe buddhism is older than hinduism why brahmins and vedas etc are mentioned in buddhist scriptures. There were Buddhas before gautama if that's what you mean you are correct. Gautama buddha wasn't before hinduism though
