    After receiving my blue ocean king I would have to say it’s the best microbrand I’ve ever owned. The finishing absolutely blows my Ward trident out of the water and that is an excellent watch in itself.

    I'm a Monta owner. Let me tell you this, the price is justified for a few reasons:
    1. The quality of the brushing, chamfers, bracelet, case, and how thin it wears is top notch. Via a podcast interview, their watches are made in the same city in Switzerland as AP. The price is in the finishing, period.
    2. Customer service is out of this world. They're watch guys. Call Monta, and usually one of the two founders answers the phone. Emails are answered by owners. They have an in-house watchmaker for service.
    3. Movement is not in house, but regulated to +/-5s. Easily serviced outside Monta if you want to take that route with a plethora of parts if ever needed.
    4. You will understand once you see the finishing in the metal. The best way I can compare that "in the metal difference" to is Grand Seiko. I'm not saying they're finished like Grand Seiko, I am saying you can't appreciate them in photos or videos, it has to be in person.
    Read forums, everyone raves about how they're finished. Multiple people who own Rolex, Speedmasters, etc. Have a Monta and wear it all the time as I do. Also, they rarely come up for sale, because people keep them.

      Everyone needs to read this comment. As a Monter owner, I completely agree. Anyone saying the price is crazy doesn't realize the quality and finishing rivals and arguable beats watches twice the price maybe more. Just without an in house movement (that will cost at least double to service anyway).

      I own a Monta and also second that the finishing of this watch is superb and pretty close to my Omega as well. Dont know
      why people are always bringing up no heritage and that justifies price. There are many companies with heritage and the quality does not even compare to the Monta even though you are paying more for it. I will take my Monta over a Longines, Sinn, and Oris anyday.

      People usually "see" the finishing as good as they paid for it. I've seen one in person and they are not as good as you're making them out to be. Not better than some brands that cost half as much or even less. Not sure it's even any better than a $450 Casio T200S. Finishing is overrated.

    Great watch, I have 2 Monta’s and love them! Quick correction though is that it doesn’t use an ETA 2824, but the 2892 movement (which is thinner and has an extra 4 hours of power reserve)

    This is the watch collector's conundrum...$2,000 for this watch (more in Canada with conversion) which does sound like a well-made watch, or take that money and buy an equally well-made watch (or better) from a more established brand like Oris or Sinn? Great review Oleg! Thanks,

      Having had experience with both categories, I can tell you the Monta outdoes both Oris and Sinn in terms of finishing, hands down. Yet to be seen how robust Monta watches are longterm though.

    I have no problem with quality microbrands at any price. My friend just bought a Monta Sky Quest, an impressive timepiece. I have been flipping my watches that belong to the Swatch Group and replacing them with microbrands. I have a Brellum and two from Tourby. Next I plan to buy a Norquain. I will conclude with this thought, all of the major brands had a beginning.

    Hi Oleg. great review. and all the Goods & Bads you have pointed out, they are all very legit points and I agree with you on all the points. I have Monta OceanKing. I bought one exactly one year ago after I sold off my two Ginault watches via ebay. With that money, I bought Monta which I knew of their great customer service.
    Yes, as you said, Monta Oceanking is not a perfect watch, crown is too small and hard to operate. Specially I don't have good finger nails to grab and pull... clasp is too long and big (but love the glide lock system). But I must say that they have the best customer service among all the other micro brands. You can actually talk to a person (totally unlike Ginault) and they will take care of the problems "immediately" with a big smile and their communication is absolutely the best. When I email them something, I get their honest reply back in less than an hour.
    After having the OceanKing for one year, it started to go 25 seconds too fast and the clasp was getting loose. So, I emailed them for service. they sent me the label next day and in less than 10 days, they fixed the watch and I will be getting it back coming Monday or Tuesday. (As for Ginault, when I sent back my two watches, because one was going too fast and one was going too slow (still under warranty), they kept it for 3 month and return them back to me WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEMS. But after receiving them, I realized that same one was going exactly same seconds fast and the other was going exactly the slow. They did not even fix them and hold them for 3 month and returned back to me. That is the reason that I sold them off via ebay and bought Monta. I lost trust in Ginault... even though I loved the look and feel of the watch. But hated the movement).
    Yes, I know that it is expensive and not many people will cough up Two grand for a micro brand. But I believe that it is a good watch, It might not worth all $2000.00 but Monta separates itself from all other micro brands with their absolutely wonderful customer service.
    Anyway, I will be getting my watch back coming Monday or Tuesday, so I will check the watch and I will leave my comments again for their service work.
    Thanks Oleg and have a wonderful "Valentine's Day".

    2,000 dollars is a substantial amount of money to be asking for a micro brand. It might be quality but it just doesn't have the heritage to be asking that much. For reference, you can get an Oris or a Logines for that kind of money. Great review!

    Many people are buying a brand rather that a watch. There's nothing wrong with that. Value, heritage, reputation ... i get it and I've done it. It's also true that for around the same price point of this Monta you can get an Oris or even a Tudor (if you shop well). But you are not getting a premium offering from them, you getting an entry level one. What i mean, is that for that price point, you won't have a in house caliber. You will get and ETA (Tudor) or a Sellita (Oris), just like with Monta. And it's alright ! For me, quality can stand on its own. Not all Microbrands are the same. Monta is clearly next level. Whithout the heritage. Yet

    Great review brother....a braw design, well made, great specs and original in many respects.... you know me, my biggest gripe will be the price....I'm tight....it's in my blood....the date wheel is fine, it looks right, the number font could be doing with a fraction of a reduction in size, I get the impression they're going for more of a dress diver, which would explain an undersized crown and an awkward bezel grip....back to the price....my worry would be a worthless warranty if something went wrong with the company and potential resale value, at 2k it would most definitely have to be a keeper.... personally I'd go Oris, they have a couple on my Grail list....that said, they'll do well and sell out I'm certain, wish them the very best of luck....already looking forward to seeing what they do next....⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Hello my mate, I don't write that often, but this time I have to say that I think there is an alternative that is more suitable.
    Which brand do I mean? Corazon Del Mar from Germany. Ceramic bezel with superluminova, very unique design, swiss automatic movement Sellita SW 200-1, blued Screws, sapphire crystal caseback, decorated rotor with sapphire, Cabuchon-Pearl as a moisture indicator, housing with argon flooded, made in Germany (is regulated and decorated here, even the dials are printed there), ceramic side inlays, on the Malawi model (which I own) an incredibly good leather strap, but the steel bracelet is also really high quality.
    This package does not cost 2000 dollars, but 1250 Euro, with superluminova in the bezel 1350 Euro. If the shipping route from Germany would not be that far, I would send you my Melanocetus Malawi for a review.
    Otherwise, as always, good work from you, even if I do not comment every video.

  • @jacobgreenmanedlion1863

    I’m confused; the Selina SW300 is a clone of the ETA 2892-A2. The ETA 2824 is a totally different movement that much thicker and has different crown height, and IIRC a different dual foot slot position. I am sure you are wrong; it would be too complicated. The M22 is likely either a 2892-A2 or SW300, or it is a 2824 or SW 200. there is no way it would be SW300 or 2824.

    Honestly, I am at a loss to find a reason to pay that much money for a watch that does not even properly state the kind of movement inside. Add to that the fact that it is all too similar to a lot of divers all referring to the Sub design - well, I`m not enthusiastic. A Longines Hydro Conquest for about 1100 Euro is certainly as good imho and chances are that I`ll burn less money if I sell it.

    It's nothing special, but I don't have a way to try one on. I would never spend that much on a microbrand. If they go out of business and the watch breaks, the person who bought it has to pay for it. For this price range, you can get a well-established brand and decent warranty like Oris. Maybe, Zinn, they make great watches. Maybe with a discount. I am trying to save up for something decent and can't be buying watches now or I will never get any grails. It’s worth it. You have a lot of Microbrands that have fantastic specs ... on paper ... and are way cheaper. Execution, fit and finish on Monta watches are just in an really higher category. When you take a Monta in your hands, you can see and feel the quality. That comes with a higher price tag.

    • @77cjam
      @77cjam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@switzknight Glad you like them. But still a hard pass. At that price you have so many other choices not just much cheaper superb microbrands but some incredible established brands Inc Sinn, Oris, Rado, Zodiac, even Tudor. As said there is nothing I see in my opinion that could possibly make me spend that kind of money on this watch. But as always each to their own. If everyone wanted and wore the same watches it would be a very boring world

    • @switzknight
      @switzknight 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed ! There is so much choices. But sometimes I think that quality can stand for itself. It’s true, Monta has no heritage and no (not yet) brand X factor. But established watch makers all begun at one point in history. I also have Oris and Tudor watches. But for this price point (around 2000) with both Oris and Tudor, you will also get an ETA (Tudor) or a Sellita (Oris) caliber. We will see what happens when the drama about ETA not being allowed to provide movements outside the Swatch group settles. For a in house caliber, the price tag goes up again : at least 1000 more for Tudor, and more than 2000 for Oris. So it’s coming back to what you said, to each is own .... Value is in the eye of the beholder :)

    I do like your dog a lot. But why doesn't he pay any attention. He seems to be not interested at all.

    Yeah, absolutely the best value - if you want to lose 75% of it after purchase. Good luck getting even a fraction of the price on the secondary market. I mean, c'mon - they can't even be bothered to use a black date ring?? Oh, right - they never know which movement will be available. You can buy a ton of microbrands with better specs for 30% of what this thing costs. But hey - make a $500 watch, charge $2k, build the mystique, and voila! Internet fan-boy magic. PT Barnum was right...

    It's a well made, nice looking watch. I just don't love it.

    $2,000 for a watch and you're not even told what the movement is? The lack of consistency of the movement really makes me question how good their service would be. A 60 click bezel? I like the watch, but it is not worth $2,000, No way.

    Overpriced micro brand. Put a bit more towards it and buy a proper brand. Resale values will be much better.

    Nice but definitely not 2K nice. I'd pay for it no more than 1K.

    I think I would rather have a Ginault rather than a Monta

    All theses microbrands . Are getting way to expensive. Ive said it before the best homage sub watch is still the tisell

    • @switzknight
      @switzknight 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Monta is not an homage, and fit, finish and quality are no match for a Tisell. That level of quality comes with a higher price tag.

    Boring watch imo. Basic design with no real standouts. I like the clasp though
