To minimise the errors and and long life of the experimental setup, always designed in proper proportion. Accordingly, thick wire (experimental rod) is used here. Although, one can design the set up by using tihin wire, the other observations like angel of twists and masses will accordingly be changed. Handling of the experiment will definitely be difficult.
