The yard has a shallow depression or bowl area for the cars to roll into. Pretty much works identical to the hump system. Just more economical to flat switch or kick cars in this application since there’s no room at this yard for a hump hill.
how do they know which siding to put the different cars into when they are sorting, do they can the car’s ID number which tells them what the load is and where it’s supposed to go to? thanks
@@natgass8102 when the remote operator is kicking the cars he has a sheet of paper with the rail cars identification numbers and a sheet with the switching requirements for the cars. By referencing those papers the remote operator knows where to put each car or set of cars
excellent location are you on UP’s property or outside of it when you’re filming, and have you done any videos or them working on the engines in the pit? thanks
I am outside of UP’s property (directly on the edge of there property) I am unable to get footage of the pit operations do to the location of the pit and the positioning of the locomotives preventing me from getting a clear shot.
@@FerroequinologistofColorado too bad that would be interesting, if you know someone who has a drone and it’s not prohibited to fly it over their yard, that would be very interesting!
@@natgass8102 it would but i think it is prohibited by the FAA to fly over this facility without strict approval from the FAA, Union Pacific and the city of Denver.
Sure was a busy morning. Great variety today
Interesting to see how the yard works and how trains are broken down(split up)
Very cool!👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video
Is this a flat yard? I am not seeing how this is more efficient than a hump operation.
