They whip this up to end the show early, because without Finn, Rachel arc and the New Direction arc becomes less and less interesting. They don't have the main character anymore.
Rachel literally had everything, living in New York with her friends, dream college, BROADWAY, but then, what did she do? She blew all that for a show that had no guarantee of being good.This only had to be a show, wouldn't catch me doing that in real life.
lol not to discredit Broadway, but only in Glee's universe is Broadway something so sacred. In reality it has a much smaller audience compared to the other art outlets. A role in a TV show could lead you to many opportunities. There's a reason why Lea Michele herself dropped Broadway for TV shows.

I really don't like the final season of Glee. It's almost like the directors just tore down everything the characters had built over 5 seasons and just bulldozed it for the sake of making a high-school story again.
