"It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!" Timex commercials with John Cameron Swazy were a regular sponsor of Sunday night's Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom with Marlon Perkins. The Tidy Bowl man, "Flushing Your worries awaaaaaay!!!" as He gets sucked down the whirlpool in His tiny boat.
01:18 I wonder if this KFC is the one at 3001 Rossville Blvd, Chattanooga, TN? The current buildings (as they appear now) on the other side of E 30th St argue otherwise, but could've been significantly modified, or replaced. The overall look of the area seems very familiar however.
And I try to tell the younger generation today... "If you didn't grow up in the 1970s, you can never really understand WHY it was the greatest decade."
I think Mr William is correct. The late 60s/70s was THE greatest decade ! You had to be there to understand! (There are many even today, who weren't around back then who will affirm this! The US started sucking real bad during the mid 90s/after 9/11)

I just turned 60 last week and i remember everything from the 70's from watching Saturday morning cartoons and professional wrestling, classic television shows, movies, music on AM radio, foods, beverages, old styled cafes and fast food restaurants, classic daytime TV with soap operas and game shows, real talk shows, classic real commercials and many others thanks again for more classic memories of the Past Thank You.🇺🇲📺🇺🇲
Daytime TV was a treat during summer vacations and days off school (except dreaded "Watergate summer" of '73). Old school soaps and game shows were a peek into the private world of adults - drunken celebs trying to answer questions, adults dressing up or doing crazy things for prizes, scheming adults in fictional midwestern towns behaving very, very badly. And sadly most of those memories were wiped by the networks to save money.
Oh how I wish we could go back to those simpler times! Thanks for the memories! The 70's were the best and the most memorable! I wish we could go back to those good old days just for a little while!
5:40 MAD Magazine was so GREAT. Every page was LOADED with bits, little comments, little extra text, very DENSE comedy ... you could spend HOURS looking at them. As a kid, my FAVORITE was the tri-fold back covers, where the picture was one thing, but if you folded it on the lines, a _completely_ different scene. GENIUS.
I was a teenager in the 70s! Play faithfully watched The Partridge family and The Brady bunch. I have thoroughly enjoyed this video and every comment!. It was a very special time in my life
I remember the Halloween costumes. I was always an astronaut. Every year. As I got older (6+ years old) I would raid my electric project kits and wire lights and spinning antennas on motors into my costume.
I love watching your videos however it is bittersweet because as I watch I realize how wonderful life was in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s it wasn’t a perfect utopia but it was definitely a better time in our country. I never thought that in my lifetime that there would be no sounds of children playing outside & driving down the street & not ever seeing people outside socializing the way it was when I was growing up. Summertime was extra memorable because we would hang out with friends riding bikes & maybe laying on a blanket under the trees listening to our transistor radios & talking & laughing about our lives & dreaming of our future. I miss the old days especially because it was more social & people were more interested in being with others & just closer to one another it wasn’t lonely like it is today.
If you had a gardening question or needed car help, you just walked down the street to the appropriate neighbor's house, knocked on the door and they were happy to help. Now neighbors don't talk and everyone claims to be 'introverts'.

I always loved the Folger's coffee commercials, Mrs. Olsen always had such a friendly smile! Loved watching The Midnight Special where you could see so many great artists. Thank you for this fun video!!!
As a kid, I remember staying up late to watch The Midnight Special. For many of us, it was the first time we could see big music STARS actually playing live - Peter Frampton, Aerosmith, Heart. No pre-recording or lip syncing. Certainly less convenient than music via today's technology. But having to wait until 1:00 a.m. each weekend somehow made the experience more special!
@@gregggoss2210 you missed the o p's point. having to wait to see it made it special. now everything is just taken for granted. it was a much better time to grow up.
Besides the Kool-Aid commercial I remember the Hawaiian Punch commercial. "How would you like a nice Hawaiian punch?" Pow! Speaking of scents, I remember in the 1960's getting a doll for Christmas and it had a strong plastic odor. Every time I smell plastic like that it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! I was a teen in the early 1970's. Those record books you mentioned were popular in the 1980's. My son wore them out. Then they started having cassette tapes with the books. I transferred them all onto a CD a few years ago.

Farrah Fawcett-Majors! Her iconic red bathing suit poster (from Spencer's at the mall), her shampoo, Charlie's Angels bubble gum cards- all of it was my obsession
During the early 70's The Midnight Special is where I went for guitar lessons. We lived out in the boonies and there were no guitar teachers. I'm 64 now and have well over 1000 gigs under my belt :)
One of my favorites was getting a new book of punch out paper dolls and their clothes with all the accessories. The neighbor girl and I would spend the entire day on her patio doing that 💕💕🥰
My siblings and I didn't have that fancy bubble bath in a can, we had Mr. Bubble. Don't forget about American Bandstand, or Soul Train, and Kasey Kasem sending out dedications on air. Fright Night Theater was another show to watch classic horror late at night, or if you were lucky you were eating Kentucky Fried Chicken and watching a double feature at the Starlight Drive-in Theater.
Unless I've missed it in past videos I haven't seen the Frito Bandito. I remember in the early 70's everyone had the pencil eraser. It didn't work very well but everyone wanted one. It came in the snack pack Frito package. The commercials for it were iconic too.
I sing the Frito bandito song to my grand kids all of the time. They know the words and sing it with me. I loved the smell of Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner wish they brought the original smell back. Love Elton John. Used to go to free concerts in the park and every concert that came to town. Cut out records on the back of Post Super Sugar Crisp!!!! I still have a cut out of Bobby Sherman😂👍 The best of times, especially the great music!!!!!!
I remember the movie “Duel “ in 1971. Dennis Weaver was the star. It was the first movie that was directed by Steven Spielberg. It was released as a made for television movie and the local television station went off the air in the most exciting part due to an unexpected outage. The station switchboard was loaded with calls from irate viewers and as a result the following program was preempted so the station could show the part of the movie that was not shown during the power outage.
I love, loved the sent/fragrance of Prell Shampoo!! It's such a refreshing different scent!! I've only used it once or twice. It's not available in Canada 🇨🇦 and, I'm not sure if they make a conditioner-i can't get a brush though my hair without it. But, I loved this Shampoo!! ❤
Virginia Christine, ( who played Mrs. Olson in the Folgers commercials, ) was also in films such as: ‘Judgement At Nuremberg’ and the original, ‘Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.’ She also did voice roles in Scooby Doo, as well as over 100 commercials for Folgers coffee.
Two very specific memories from the 70's. "Spoon Candy" 😋 and the Purina Dog Chow commercial with the different dogs with accents. The chihuahua said "the new taste is muy bueno" in a Spanish accent. Still one of my favorite commercials of all time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I never got into cartoons, koolaid, balloons etc. My sister loved CHIPS! I remember when they had paper records in cereal boxes. I had one by the Partridge Family. I played it on my little record player. Then, I tried it on my dad’s nice console stereo. I didn’t realize needles for a good turntable were so expensive! 😊
A few weeks ago I was going through some crap in the basement- found a bunch of old 45’s and no kidding, included with them was a cereal box record- Sugar, Sugar by The Archie’s!😊
Play-doh smelled so wonderful. Why do they change those smells? All the toys you mentioned, including the paste, smelled amazing. Nothing smells the same now. Such a shame.

I remember buying my first pocket transistor radio from Radio Shack in the 70's when I was a kid. It was like a window into the world. Basically the internet of the 70's.
The ashtray! The second one shown was exactly like the ones my grandma had and yes! We played with it and also stole butts outta them to share with friends when we got home. LOL
Shasta was my favorite canned beverage back in the 70s. We kept tons of cane of this soda in our fridge & freezer. I used to love gulping down cans of grape, orange, root beer, lemon lime, strawberry, raspberry, ginger ale &tiki punch. We drank as much Shasta sodas as we did Kool Aid😊.

In New Britain, CT. back then we had a Soda Barn called "Avery's" You drive up and park, and go inside and fashion yourself a "Box of Bottled Soda" in various flavors. The box was made of heavy wood with 12 holes for those thick glass bottles with the cap tops that you could open and close. We did not get much into canned soda, but all the houses had those large Soda Boxes in the basement. We also had corner stores that sold all kinds of candy that, if sold today, would be deemed too dangerous for public consumption !!
So very proud to be a product of this generation. I would go back n stay also. The greatest music, simple life, appreciation for mother earth, morals, respect, and folks made time together. Just seems to be another world nowadays. Seems to be so self centered, completive, keeping up with everyone else anymore. I refuse to fit into it. We may have broken all the rules...or none...but we were not scared to try

Me too! I can't beleive they didn't mention this!
The Midnight Special had a competitor; Don Kirschner's Rock Concert.
Awesome video
Really? It just started you haven't watched any of it, how is it awesome if you haven't watched it yet?
Always something shown that I haven't thought of in years. Another great show!
It was on the back of Sugar Crisp cereal.@@trae4529 That's probably worth some money.
Other unique smells: Play-Doh, lunch boxes, Creepy Crawlers, Silly Putty, crayons, paste, pencil shavings, candy necklaces, Tinker Toys, Colorforms.
Special treat: Jiffy Pop.
Play-doh smelled so wonderful. Why do they change those smells? All the toys you mentioned, including the paste, smelled amazing. Nothing smells the same now. Such a shame.
OMG, yes, Colorforms!!!!! That wonderful plastic smell!!! And mimeographs in class, loved that smell so much!!!
@ 😁😎
Along with The Midnight Special, there was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
Thank you Recollection Road for your videos and the work you put into them. I'm 75 yo and you consistently stir such wonderful memories of days gone by. Btw I got busted more than once reading Mad magazines in english class. Lol
It was great. I’ve watched many of these 70,s memories and have yet to once see what was one of my favorite memories of that era. The tube tops. Need I say more? 😍😍
Thank you for including pieces of the classic commercials. It adds a new dimension to the video.
I had ring toss! Remeber the chuck wagon comercial too.

The midnight special is still here on TH-cam!
Thank God ❤❤❤❤❤
I remember buying my first pocket transistor radio from Radio Shack in the 70's when I was a kid. It was like a window into the world. Basically the internet of the 70's.
I have to say that was my favorite Christmas gift of all time!
The ashtray! The second one shown was exactly like the ones my grandma had and yes! We played with it and also stole butts outta them to share with friends when we got home. LOL
I wish some of these items would come back❤❤❤
Anyone remember the BRACH'S candy bins at the supermarket? My favorite were the butterscotch and caramels.
Chocolate Stars!
"Pick A Mix" it was called. I love the things that were like a white marshmallow with pieces of gumdrops in it.
@@JeanStAubin-nl9uo I remember those too. A rare treat with mom at the Alpha-Beta supermarket!
I remember the candy and popcorn at Sears in San Antonio, TX

I've never even heard of Crazy Foam. That's a new one on me.
Mr. Bubble
I loved Crazy form. I loved collecting the different characters..
That pudding in a can always had a "tinny" taste, I miss it.
The chuck wagon scared me as a kid. I was scared every time I opened a cabinet that a little wagon with horses would come out. 😅
I grew up in the 70s and in California and if I could I would go back to it right now !
People tend to forget how fantastic the artwork was artwork was in Mad Magazine. Especially the Fold-In on the back cover.
"What? Me worry?"
Love watching. Some wonderful memories with this
The 70s were the best years of my life. Had my daughters in the 80s. They were good years too.

Thank you for the memories.
This was my time.
I miss it still.
WOW. This video took me back to my childhood.
"I want a pop... pop... I want a Shasta!"
I was born in 78, but I remember some of these things being around. Water ring toss, for example. My aunt had one. And those Halloween costumes.
Thank You for bringing back a Wonderful time in my life! ❤👍😊
I loved the 60 and 70’s those were the best days of my life and the music was too, I’d go back there and live there the rest of my life if I could.

I remember all the rest in your video.

Grew upon the 70s , remember all these. The smell of super elastic bubble plastic was enough to get you high 😂
Growing up in the seventies was the best i remember playing hopscotch, hula hoop, jack rocksand playing with my dolls, ms. Beasley, baby go bye bye and cooking little cakes in my easy-bake-oven ☺️
My first decade of life....fond memories for sure!
I stillsometimes buy Prell and use it as body wash. Smells divine
Yes, Mr. Microphone. Never forgot, "Hey Good Lookin', I'll be back to pick you up later!". My husband used to say that to me at times, all through our marriage. so funny!
I remember the rolls from KFC, now they are biscuits. When I was very young I got in trouble once for eating the skin off of all the chicken.
I always loved the skin as a kid. My mom & Nan always saved it for me. 😂
... for eating the skin off the chicken,
Oh how great it was to be young and able to eat anything we wanted. That's one thing I miss.
The wet towelette to help clean ur greasy fingers.

Somebody please bring back: Tickle antiperspirant, Farrah Fawcett Shampoo, Clinique eye shadows with mirrored slide containers, Rose Milk lotion, and Wally Wallwasher
What memories!
Literally, when Fonzi "Jumped the Shark" Happy Days, had "Jumped the Shark !!"
I see Avery's at Stew Leonards!
I remember all these things. Also, Midnight Special is available to watch for free on TH-cam. We 6 to take the pull tab to make chains and hat bands. And beer can hats. We're you can crocheted cut cans to make hats.
I loved the Midnight Special! If I promised to get up to go to church, I was allowed to watch. I lived in the central time zone so it came on at 12:00.
I was born in 1975. I remember everything in the video 👍😎❤️
