Joanne and Fred, along with friends Janette Gitler and Blair Gershkow drove an hour on dirt roads through the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park before arriving at our destination that was located by trackers. After a brief orientation, the trek starts through the rainforest as determined by trackers who went out at dawn to locate where they slept. Once you have your first gorilla sighting, you are only allowed one hour with the family of Mountain Gorillas.
Our guide explained that we witnessed something very rare when we heard the Silverback making the staccato sounds. Apparently these were cries of mourning due to losing a female and two youngsters in a battle with another Silverback just a few days prior.
The video was captured on an iPhone Xs (Joanne’s), Canon D80 (Tamron 16-300mm lens), and a DJI Osmo Pocket attached to my shirt, and edited on an iPad Pro using the LumaFusion app.
