RIP John Sillett. After this game the Cup fever truly took hold. Listening to the semi final draw in a small cafe near Ball Hill on the following Monday, queueing for hours for the Leeds Utd tickets, then that drive up the M1 to Hillsborough in a clapped out Marina with scarves flying from the windows....golden memories, thank you George, Big Cyrille and Snoz, legends all.

Has a 11year old Wednesday fan I was absolutely devastated after this match, because the F.A cup was the ultimate event in the English football season (how times have changed). and back then we used have decent cup runs. I'm quite saddened at Coventry's recent decline, and I'm hoping Cov don't slip into league 2, Coventry v Spurs was probably one of the last great F.A Cup finals. So come on Sky blues get it sorted! X

modsheff1 cov fan here, one thing I will say is that all our problems won't get sorted until SISU leave. Until then we'll keep dropping into non-league. Hope you Owls get promotion tho. #SheffieldIsBlue

In Sheffield, how do you decide whether you're an owl or a blade? The two seem so perfectly matched!

I wish the same for Wednesday, as a Coventry fan, a trip into league one or two is not that bad you know, you get to find out the true roots of football and not just the money bag clubs of this country! Football and their local fans will always shine through! C'mon you Owls! best wishes.

i was at this game and one particular memory has stuck and that was the sight of cyrille regis streaking away into the distance bearing down on the wednesday goal and then seeing the back of the net ripple as he put coventry ahead. fantastic. i also was fortunate enough to be at wembley for the final. and houchen, he came alive in the cup games and scored another magnificent goal in the final. brilliant memories. we never stopped singing all the way home.
also, what a great achievement for john sillett and george curtis, both were part of the coventry team that rose from the 3rd division and reached the top division for the very first time in just a few seasons in the 60s

Mmmm…. I travelled up to Sheffield without a ticket,I was only 18 years old at this time,Lol!!The Semi-Final against Leeds Utd is still the best game I’ve ever been to,Even better than the Final itself!!This match was great too!!A marvellous year!!😂,Then in 1988,The Netherlands won the Euros,😂.That was the icing on cake!!

As an everton fan I must say Coventry would be a welcome addition to the Premier league again, their support can be superb, as can Wednesday's.

10,000 penned in like animals in the Leppings Lane end lower terrace. When you look back now you can't believe the way things used to be.

Proper players on both sides in those days, no diving around - they get whacked and get right back up again. Coventry fan here, great to see the City legends such as Regis, Bennett, Oggy, Bugsy, Peake, Lloydy and Killer. Some fine Wednesday players too, Sterland, Megson, Chapman. Don't remember it that way but based on those highlights Wednesday just about the better side - I guess it was just our year - just Leeds and Spurs to go.......

Houchen should've had a hat-trick that day and was about to be subbed before scoring two in two minutes.
But, both he and the late, great Cyrille Regis made history for Cov that day.

Yep, and near misses at several big FA Cup games: '81, '87 (twice) and '88. It took the tragedy in '89 to happen before the authorities woke up.

Sad that sillett, curtis and Regis no longer with us. Met them all before the final in 87 as the team stayed at the dormey hotel in ferndown Dorset before every round.....

Evidence of overcrowding in the lepping lanes end. More evidence in the 1981 semi final spur v wolves, 1987 semi final coventry v leeds. Liverpool v Nottingham forest in the 1988 semi final and 1989 the Hillsborough disaster.

Used to love that when standing up that if there was a chance everybody would go forward the in unison all move back! Fucking halcyon days. Yeah there was trouble (if you wanted it, if not there wasn't) but the atmosphere was like nothing you'll see in the sterile corporate crap nowadays. I'm a lifelong MCFC fan and a born and bred Manc and I'd swap all our recent success to get Maine Rd back with all our Working class fans even when we were shit and I mean shit! Now we have whoppers with half and half fucking scarves taking selfies and women who know fuck all about football but have read in some magazine it's "trendy". Still got my season ticket but it's sterile ,PC "entertainment " now. MCFC M20

Badly ran mate for years. The succession of bad owners, and drop into lower leagues saw a lot of fans have enough, especially with playing in Northampton then Birmingham. Glad to say though the last 4 years all been positive. PUSB. City til we Die.
