In the case of Giannis, he just worked harder and the front office did their job by getting better players around him. As for the Lakers front office, it's not entirely their fault. The moniker of "LeGM" didn't come by accident, so Buss and Pelinka can only do so much to get players to play alongside LeBron. Yes, he's an amazing player but no one wants to play with LeBron as they know their efforts, no matter how significant, will be completely overshadowed by the so-called "king."
The fact is if the Lakers had hit some crucial shots at some crucial times or had some knockdown shooters they would have faired better against Denver. It had nothing to do with Denver's D. Just unreliable big-shot makers.
