    As an American I have been raised to called it soccer. I personally believe though that it SHOULD be called football. While American football should have some sort of different name. Soccer is played using your feet 99% of the time. The name is fitting. While football is 90% played with hands and arms. This was something I have thought my whole life. I am a fan of both sports for their own style of games.

Sometimes it’s just to avoid injuries such as if someone went in for a tackle that the player then dived out to avoid clashing with the tackler. But most of the time it’s only to time waste especially if you’re winning. I mean.. it’s hard to keep running around for 90 minutes, soo…

      Actually the british came up with soccer, specifically because they already had a sport called football. So they ended up with rugby football and association football (or more commonly "soccer" football). Around the 1980s or so the brits dropped the soccer part of the name because the sport was starting to get popular in the US and they apparently didn't want to be associated with that.

      Yes, but also no. Those stoppages are needed for the players, because it's 45 minutes of constant running. Players fake falls to give their teams a chance to catch their breath, as well as to attempt an attack off a free kick/slow down the attackers.

    Im Football/soccer we always act like we are injured to take a rest. A simple experiment is to run around a football pitch or track at a good running speed for 10 minutes and then sprint 100 meters and back. After that fall down and see how easy it is for you to get up and start sprinting at full speed. It’s just for us to take a break.

    • @Daniel-yx8nm
      @Daniel-yx8nm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, it gives your team a chance to get into a good position, as well as letting the whole team take a break. Another reason is to get a free kick out of a failing attack or breakaway. If your not gonna score and you know it, why not get a free kick. And to annoy the other team

    • @nbriggs133
      @nbriggs133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, its just taking advantage of the rules as written. All other sports have their own versions of faking fouls/injury/etc, soccer just gets a bad rep for some particularly egregious examples.

    • @Snertyo
      @Snertyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that you don’t take any issue with that is the problem. It’s tolerated WAY more than in ANY other sport. Why? How is that good for the sport, the players, the fans, the financials, etc overall?

    • @nbriggs133
      @nbriggs133 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Snertyo Personally, I don't tolerate it. I've never played like that myself and get annoyed when others do. However, when you watch the game most of the time when people act up the injury it was a legitimate foul to begin with so what difference does it make.

    • @Snertyo
      @Snertyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nbriggs133 By your comments you do obviously tolerate even though you may not participate in it. And if you can’t see why a dive is an issue even in the event of a legitimate foul, you are missing the point. It’s a sport, not a theatre!

      The Brits also invented the word soccer. "Linguistically creative students at the University of Oxford in the 1880s distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer” (sometimes spelled “socker”), and the name quickly spread beyond the campus. However, “soccer” never became much more than a nickname in Great Britain. By the 20th century, rugby football was more commonly called rugby, while association football had earned the right to be known as just plain football." www.britannica.com/story/why-do-some-people-call-football-soccer#:~:text=Linguistically%20creative%20students%20at%20the,quickly%20spread%20beyond%20the%20campus.
