So I have this thing on my Patreon page called Marcela's Vocal Challenge, in which my patrons challenge me to sing difficult songs. They send me their suggestions and then we vote for the one I should cover.
And as it turns out, whenever there's a Nightwish song on the list it always wins 😅 That was the case with Sleeping Sun, which I kind of already knew. So I decided to just record this one and give the other songs a chance! 😊
After trying a super classical version and a super belty version I decided to go for somewhere in between, a classical belt if you will! Bit louder than classical and a bit more speechy on the lower end, since I think it fits my style better.

I’ve been saying for a long time to friends how I wished you would perform this piece someday. I always felt you deserved far more attention than you seem to receive. I realize the world of metal enjoys a bounty of extremely talented female vocalists these days. But your voice has a warmth and expressiveness that never loses itself in vocal gymnastics or flash. Well done young lady, This is wonderful. I've heard this done by Tarja, Floor and now by the amazing Marcela, all three of you are fantastic vocalist. This is of course another awesome song by the great composer, Tuomas Holopainen and you truly nailed it in every way. The best musical moment for me was a non-musical one.
Those of us who play (or the lucky one's who also have a vocal gift) still have those moments when we *think* we did our best, and we know we ought to *wait* to hear the play back to be certain before we say 'yes, that's the one, that's the take I will use'...
... but ... we let a little shard of glee show.
Just as Marcela reaches to turn off the camera, she shares an eager, child-like 'bite my lower lip'.
It's that moment when you are sure you did it right, it all felt right, and you can't wait to see if the recording agrees.
That child is still in us all, and it loves to reinforce us when we excel.
The song is beautiful.
But the pure joy Marcela shows us is, to me, the rebound of the energy she just put forth wrapped in a selfless hope that
the star she reached for was captured in the video.

Wow! This is really wonderful! it's really cool to get to hear your interpretation of this song. To me, your take on this one feels very wistful and forlorn, like someone looking back with regret. It's really interesting to compare to Floor's folkier take on this one, which gives me more the sense of the anguish of someone in the middle of living through loss, rather than the wistfulness of someone looking back on it. Would be awesome to hear you cover Nemo in this style, I think it'd really fit that one too.
