One is one of the most accomplished and revered heroes in the history of the world, the First knight of the God of War, a slayer of immortals wielding the sacred lightning of the Lord of Light. The other is the city's professional executioner who seems to have decided his favourite way of doing it is cannibalism and business is so good he's become a thousand pounds. The only reason Ornstein is even there is that he literally isn't and is just an illusion Gwyndolin conjured up to shore up the inadequate defences represented by an obese cannibal with a giant club.
Would love to see the opposite, the 7 bosses you couldn't win without bringing a friend, like the bosses that randomly throw an npc in to help you. Shout out to ya boi Quirell on the UUMUU fight from Hollow Knight

I'm reminded of recurring 'bosses' Solt and Peppor from _Chrono Cross._ Which have the advantage of also being a tall, thin guy and a round guy, both wearing goldish armor.
I love how when you defeat Asterius, sometimes Theseus will say "That was my friend!" or just be genuinely pained to see him die. Even if Zagreus accuses him of basically using the Minotaur as a glorified slave, they both insist it's just a cherished friendship or brotherhood. It's honestly heartwarming stuff. Also, personal headcanon is that Theseus knows exactly who Zagreus is, what he's about and why they repeatedly fight, but insists on calling him a blackguard, daemon and all sorts of other nasty insults for the sole reason of hyping up the crowd. In short - he's a performer putting on a show, not a pompous buffoon.

Quropeco from the Monster Hunter series also does something similar. It is able to mimic the roar of any monster in the game, which it will use to summon another monster in a hunt (usually a Deviljho, which, let me point out, is nicknamed “The World Eater”)
In Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time, you fight Twinrova, a pair of Geurodo witches in with they try to either freeze you or burn you. There's also Twinmold from Majora's Mask in which you fight 2 giant snakes at the same time.
The Blade Bearer and Cannoneer from Code Vein, they are extremely effective at fighting as a team the former fights with a rapier and ice attacks while the latter hangs back and uses fire. And when you fight them again in the depths whoever you defeat first has their power absorbed by their partner who also gets their health bar replenished.
How about brothers Oro and Mato from Hollow Knight. First they teach you how to use all the cool nail arts and then they procede to kick your bug behind with the afore mentioned nail arts

Wait until you see Asterius and Thesius on Extreme Measures. The bull gets a set of Golden Platemail armor and Thesius gets a golden mechanical chariot that shoots artillery. It really takes the unfair advantage up another level.
How about the Magus Sisters from Final Fantasy IV? One casts reflect while the other casts black magic that can't be reflected back again. Oh, and the third heals the other 2.
They even returned as a summon in FFX. Which is great... until you fight their Dark versions in the HD Remake, and they're among the hardest fights in the game.
oh, i just remembered a similar group in FF6, in the "Cyan's dream" dungeon. THEY have a nasty triple attack that's certain to turn one of your characters to stone! fortunately, you can counter it by equipping anti-Stone accessories, IF you know it's coming.
Here's another one for a future list: Totem Pokemon from Pokémon Sun, Moon, and Ultra Variants Thereof. These Pokémon are enormous for their species and have an innate boost to their stats. But they also summon a roster of wild Pokémon to fight your sole Pokémon two on one. They might set up combos like with weather effects, heal the boss, or have attacks that are super effective against whatever Pokémon you brought to target the bosses weakness.
Not sure if this doesn't count or if it doubly counts: but Zorn and Thorn from FFIX when they merge into Meltigemini for a boss fight in disc 3. Maybe a bit too literal a definition of them being unable to beat you without a friend haha
In a hat in time, the conductor and she grooves. In world two, you can only fight one of them. However, there is a death wish challenge where you have to fight both of them at once. Their attacks are easy to dodge in their own, but are almost impossible to dodge when combined

There's going to be a a commenter edition this I know it and here's my contribution to it: Devil May Cry 3 Dante's Awakening the boss fight between the brothers Agni and Rudra Agni uses fire and Rudra uses wind you have to fight both at the same time and if you defeat either one they will pick up their fallen brother's weapon and will then integrate their brother's element into some of their attacks
How about the Chang Brothers from Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines. Not only are there two of them, they also left the optional boss Bruno Giovanni upstairs for you to deal with as well.
I’d say Mimic Squadron from the Alicorn DLC in Ace Combat 7 fits here. The twins are mini bosses sent to kill you, which is fitting since it usually takes hundreds of planes to kill you normally, and they can’t even do that. And if it wasn’t enough, there’s guidance drones trying to kill you with a massive f*ck off rail cannon using gps guidance while you’re fighting Mimic Squadron.
The Crash Bandicoot series has a few bosses who bring along a friend, but N. Tropy palling up with a female version of himself from another dimension, in Crash Bandicoot 4, really brings a new meaning to the phrase, "if you want something done properly, do it yourself"

If only I wasn't stuck trying to beat Hades himself! I've got the other bosses down pat now, but I can't beat not exactly father of the year, Hades.
Koume and Kotake, the witch twins, from Legend of Zelda Occarina of Time. Thankfully, they each use magic the other is weak to and you get the mirror shield to reflect one's magic onto the other. Not so thankfully they combine into the super-powered Twinrova when beaten.
Code Vein had Cannoneer and Blade Bearer. Nioh had Yuki-onna and Oda Nobunaga. Bloodborne had the Shadow of Yharnam (ie two friends). Demon's Souls had the two Maneaters. Shekiro had the Headless Ape and his wife. I guess there is a sort of trend here.
I kind of love Hades attention to mythical detail because according to some versions of the myth Theseus a) was the first person to realise the Minotaur was trying to talk and heard it ask to die, b) insisted that the Minotaur fight him so it could die a heroes death and receive the honours that entails. In these telling the Minotaur actually managed one completely clear sample of human speech thanking Theseus. Thus them both being on the same plain of the Underworld and even becoming friends is not only a cool boss battle but also thematically appropriate to the myths.

Ghostbusters:The Video Game has you fighting two boss ghosts in a library while weilding a weapon that has the accuracy of a garden hose. This is especially difficult if you play the game on the hardest difficulty which "spoilers" I did.
What about Aronbesh and Saluru from Ever Oasis? A double team fight right before you get to the final boss! And you can't save in or leave the area upon entering? How lovely!
How about prince of persia the two thrones were after a secuence riding a horse you pull an enemy off road and immediately you discover he has a friend. Even the prince says it wasn't a good idea.
In Knights of the Old Republic, there's a dual boss at the end of Korriban is you decide to go fully Light-side Jedi. After you reach the end of Naga Sadow's tomb, you have to fight Master Uthar and his apprentice, Yuthura, at the same time.
Unless you sided with one of them, of course. Personally, I planned to not only convert Yuthura back to the Light for good, but also behead the Sith leadership of Korriban by cleansing Uthar for good. That is how a true Jedi saves the galaxy, KotOR duology-era Jedi and Clone Wars-era Jedi!
Captain Vor and Lieutenant Lech Kril in Warframe. Captain Vor is the boss of Mercury, and he has the ability to teleport, push you around with an energy beam, and if you take out his shield and a quarter of his health, he becomes invincible long enough to regenerate the shield, and spawn a bunch of grunts. However, considering how early you fight him, he is pretty easy. Lieutenant Lech Kril is the boss of Mars, which comes right after Mercury because the game has you start at Earth. He is completely invincible at the beginning of the fight, and his giant 2-handed sledgehammer sends out waves of ice that can damage and freeze you if you get caught in them. What you have to do to beat him is shoot his blue-glowing backpack enough times to break it, which will briefly engulf him in flames, turn his attacks from ice to fire based, and make him vulnerable. Problem is, the distance you have to stay from him to avoid the hammer means he can turn around nearly as quickly as you can get around to the back of him to hit is backpack. Luckily, if he misses a swing at you, his hammer will get stuck in the ground long enough to attack him. The boss of the dwarf planet Ceres(which you get to after dealing with Mars, and its moons), is both of them, each at a higher level than when you first fought them, and now making it painfully aware how nightmarish it is to fight two mobility-based bosses in an arena half the size either of them had on their own.

There's going to be a a commenter edition this I know it and here's my contribution to it: Devil May Cry 3 Dante's Awakening the boss fight between the brothers Agni and Rudra Agni uses fire and Rudra uses wind you have to fight both at the same time and if you defeat either one they will pick up their fallen brother's weapon and will then integrate their brother's element into some of their attacks
Kotake and Koume from Ocarina of time kinda have the same thing going, turning into Twinrova.
How about the Chang Brothers from Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines. Not only are there two of them, they also left the optional boss Bruno Giovanni upstairs for you to deal with as well.

I’d say Mimic Squadron from the Alicorn DLC in Ace Combat 7 fits here. The twins are mini bosses sent to kill you, which is fitting since it usually takes hundreds of planes to kill you normally, and they can’t even do that. And if it wasn’t enough, there’s guidance drones trying to kill you with a massive f*ck off rail cannon using gps guidance while you’re fighting Mimic Squadron.
The Crash Bandicoot series has a few bosses who bring along a friend, but N. Tropy palling up with a female version of himself from another dimension, in Crash Bandicoot 4, really brings a new meaning to the phrase, "if you want something done properly, do it yourself"

In your first fight with Genichiro, he has a sneaky nightjar ninja hiding waiting to ambush you if you somehow beat him
And in the last one he has a sneaky grandfather hiding if you should beat him.
The Binding of Issac: Rebirth should of been on this list because some bosses like Gemini have a friend to fight you, or when you have to fight two of the same boss in the same room

I really love Zagreus's absolutely savage "You're next king" after beating Asterious. I love this game so much. If only I wasn't stuck trying to beat Hades himself! I've got the other bosses down pat now, but I can't beat not exactly father of the year, Hades.

Koume and Kotake, the witch twins, from Legend of Zelda Occarina of Time. Thankfully, they each use magic the other is weak to and you get the mirror shield to reflect one's magic onto the other. Not so thankfully they combine into the super-powered Twinrova when beaten.

Yuki-onna and Oda Nobunaga. Bloodborne had the Shadow of Yharnam (ie two friends). Demon's Souls had the two Maneaters. Shekiro had the Headless Ape and his wife. I guess there is a sort of trend here.
Number 8: The Swine King and Wilbur from Darkest Dungeon. Touch Wilbur and your entire party gets smacked into a single dimension instead of two...
Kill Wilbur and the Swine King will go into a permanent rage, smacking the entire party at once and it can stun too!
I kind of love Hades attention to mythical detail because according to some versions of the myth Theseus a) was the first person to realise the Minotaur was trying to talk and heard it ask to die, b) insisted that the Minotaur fight him so it could die a heroes death and receive the honours that entails.
In these telling the Minotaur actually managed one completely clear sample of human speech thanking Theseus. Thus them both being on the same plain of the Underworld and even becoming friends is not only a cool boss battle but also thematically appropriate to the myths.
Yeah, really love that game for actually respecting the Greek mythology themes. Not much fiction these days do that.
0:15 Hard disagree. In ALL good RPGs, you bring a PARTY to your deadly duel with your nemesis. That way they can help you with the beat down, and you all share is that delicious, delicious, EXP!! You should have brought a full party of five to your boss fight, THAT would have showed them!
Personally, as a Nemesis myself, I strongly suggest bringing a friend ... and minions ... and maybe a few household pets.

Ghostbusters:The Video Game has you fighting two boss ghosts in a library while weilding a weapon that has the accuracy of a garden hose. This is especially difficult if you play the game on the hardest difficulty which "spoilers" I did.

yeah but summons don't count. Otherwise every boss with minions would be here... a Wyvern is an exceptionally large minion but still a minion.

How about prince of persia the two thrones were after a secuence riding a horse you pull an enemy off road and immediately you discover he has a friend. Even the prince says it wasn't a good idea.

In Knights of the Old Republic, there's a dual boss at the end of Korriban is you decide to go fully Light-side Jedi. After you reach the end of Naga Sadow's tomb, you have to fight Master Uthar and his apprentice, Yuthura, at the same time.
Unless you sided with one of them, of course.
Personally, I planned to not only convert Yuthura back to the Light for good, but also behead the Sith leadership of Korriban by cleansing Uthar for good. That is how a true Jedi saves the galaxy, KotOR duology-era Jedi and Clone Wars-era Jedi!

Captain Vor and Lieutenant Lech Kril in Warframe. Captain Vor is the boss of Mercury, and he has the ability to teleport, push you around with an energy beam, and if you take out his shield and a quarter of his health, he becomes invincible long enough to regenerate the shield, and spawn a bunch of grunts. However, considering how early you fight him, he is pretty easy. Lieutenant Lech Kril is the boss of Mars, which comes right after Mercury because the game has you start at Earth. He is completely invincible at the beginning of the fight, and his giant 2-handed sledgehammer sends out waves of ice that can damage and freeze you if you get caught in them. What you have to do to beat him is shoot his blue-glowing backpack enough times to break it, which will briefly engulf him in flames, turn his attacks from ice to fire based, and make him vulnerable. Problem is, the distance you have to stay from him to avoid the hammer means he can turn around nearly as quickly as you can get around to the back of him to hit is backpack. Luckily, if he misses a swing at you, his hammer will get stuck in the ground long enough to attack him. The boss of the dwarf planet Ceres(which you get to after dealing with Mars, and its moons), is both of them, each at a higher level than when you first fought them, and now making it painfully aware how nightmarish it is to fight two mobility-based bosses in an arena half the size either of them had on their own.
