    I had always assumed they had a more sophisticated purpose. Simple problem, simple solution. I love it!

    Thanks so much. I been going my whole life thinking those were for hanging pictures or keys. I had no idea about the temporary holding of 2x4s. I learn something else each time I watch one of your videos.

    You can also use a duplex nail to secure an interior door, such as a closet door, with exposed hinges. Nail the duplex nail into the door frame on the hinge side, and drill a relief hole in the edge of the door. With the door locked, removing the hinge pins would normally allow the door to be removed. With the duplex nails in place, it would foil this attempt.

      Those nails are real handy. Duplex means Two Use. When you get to your door in the morning to find your hinge pins gone you just pop the nails out and insert them where your hinge pins used to be.

    Love your videos. You always find the big things in the smallest things to talk about. That makes a big difference. I always wondered why those nails looked the way they do. Great info. Many of us are too proud to admit that we don't know it all. Thanks again 😇

    Thank you for clearing that up. I thought the head was for tying string onto...maybe it should be. Anyway, thanks again. By the way, you are a great nail driver!

    wonderful .. might you be able to describe a few circumstances where one would need to temp fasten like this that would require the support of a nail fully driven in, i.e., could you not just half drive in a nail? When would you use this I mean in what situation. Love your camera work and clarity in teaching.

      +BarbaraL Lowell I've seen them used for concrete forming mostly. They also work pretty well for scratch built shelters to keep things like table saws dry while working outside.

      Duplex nails, like she said, are used for temporary construction (like scaffolding and staging) because it can be driven snug, yet be easily removed.
      Know what I did? I googled "uses for duplex nails" and it suggested a website where Bob Vila explained how to use eleven different types of nail, including duplex. You should have done the same thing.

Going to be putting up a partition wall and small door any tips on framing for the wall. Small garage and even smaller workshop. Never had one before so I am happy happy happy. Another great use for duplex nails is for running string lines or even hanging pictures from (assuming you are hammering into a stud). The wackiest thing I've used duplex nails for is marking the position of tenon joint when I forgot my scribe,

    Impossible to remove a standard wood nail? That's an erroneous statement for anyone that's ever nailed two things together. Really neat duplex nail I've never even see one before. Good video but nothing is impossible in this world if you put your mind to it.

    • @PilotPlater
      @PilotPlater 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DJDevon3 impossible to remove by sliding your hammer underneath, at least not easily. Can always pry at the wood but then you'll probably leave marks if there's a lot of nails.

    • @bigbassmann
      @bigbassmann 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DJDevon3 The statement wasn't that it is impossible to remove a standard nail. She said if the standard nail head was buried in the wood it would be impossible to get the claw hammer underneath to remove it. As most woodworkers know you can do it but you will damage the surrounding wood in the process and it can be difficult to do. For applications where you only need to join pieces temporarily the duplex nail is a good solution.

    If you had pulled the duplex nail from the direction the head points to it would have come out much easier and straighter.

    U should do a bloopers video

  • @MasterChief-sl9ro
    @MasterChief-sl9ro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should tell the history of why they made them that way. In the old days. Nails were valuable. If someone had to move. They would actually burn the building down. Too recover the nails. As wood was everywhere. Then someone invented this. So you could actually remove them easy. Then use them in your new house that you built. It was not like there was a Hardware store on every corner. As tools and nails were prized possessions.
    One reason you see 16th century homes\Barns built with dowel pins. To join beams etc.. You could make them.
