The standard is 18, but if you have a slight physical impairment that prevents you from doing soldier work, you can be assigned to administrative work that lasts 22 months. For example: Xiumin and D.O. are active soldiers with 18 months. But SuHo because of his really really bad eyesight have to do 22 months of public service job (but he doesn't live in a camp with other soldeirs, he can return to his house everyday)

I might be two years (a bit longer than the normal one which is 1year and 8 months) if Chen applies to a special service in the military that allows him to go home every day after finishing his daily duty. Not confirmed.
I think the service will be 18 months like the rest of the members who are currently serving. D.O & Xuimin will be back in December & January. Suho just enlisted a few weeks ago I believe. They won’t be fully active as an entire group until most likely 2025 until they all serve their service to their country.

i’m sorry Ed but yes he’s leaving real soon for the military and that will take 2 and half years .. for now there’s 3 members of exo currently serving in the military (D.O, Xiumin and Suho) and Chen soon Baekhyun and Chanyeol will be enlisting soon as well because they’re 1992 line (almost 30y.o) During this hard time the other members will be continuing with the solo activities until the whole gang official return in 2025 :(

I'm not surprised of mandatory military enlistments because my country has that too. For people in these countries, it is a sort of a rite of passage for men. This is where boys become men, where they learn responsibility and independence. In my country, we have boys enlist as soon as they are 18, with exemptions for those who are physically and mentally disabled, deferments for those who wants to pursue studying first.
Military enlistement usualli last for 18 months. Xiumin will be coming back this December and D.O. this January. That's why they're not in Obsession. Suho enlisted last May, but he'll serve longer, because he's under public service which is lighter compared to active soldier. It was due to his previous injuries. Chen can enlist under reserved soldier, because he's raising a child. If approved he can go home regularly during his service instead of staying in the barracks.

Ed, all, get it ALL, Korean men 19 - 29 are required by law to serve their country. There are some people who are exempt, but kpop idols are not. EXO members Xiumin, D.O. and Suho are serving their country presently. Xiumin will complete his service in December, D.O. completes his in early 2021. Suho just enlisted earlier this year. He is performing his enlistment as a public service officer due to medical issues that he has. Baekhyun and Chanyeol will enlist in 2021. Unless the law changes or kpop idols are included in the group that’s exempt EXO as a group won’t have all its Korean members until 2025. The length of time they serve depends on the branch of the service they choose. Yes, idols bring a great deal of monetary support to the country, but think about it, do you have all the kpop cd’s or other merch you plan to purchase? Sales of EXO, BTS, Monsta x , and other groups merch aren’t going to stop because a member goes into the military. SHINee has been on hiatus because 3 of the 4 members were in the military. Onew and Key have completed their service and Minho will complete his in early 2021. Taemin has to enlist in 2022 unless he decides to go early. I think the service will be 18 months like the rest of the members who are currently serving. D.O & Xuimin will be back in December & January. Suho just enlisted a few weeks ago I believe. They won’t be fully active as an entire group until most likely 2025 until they all serve their service to their country.

EXO and the entertainment company said that the group will remain as nine members. Military service is really one year because they change the law. And yes every group and solo artists and actors have to enlist.
Military service ranges from 21 - 18 months depending on the service branch, i.e. navy, Army, Marines or Air Force and sometimes if they had an injury meriting a lighter service performance the do their military service at community oriented programs or at the Metropolitan Police. Since he has a family and is the main breadwinner he will probably be in the service for 18 months. I'm not surprised of mandatory military enlistments because my country has that too. For people in these countries, it is a sort of a rite of passage for men. This is where boys become men, where they learn responsibility and independence. In my country, we have boys enlist as soon as they are 18, with exemptions for those who are physically and mentally disabled, deferments for those who wants to pursue studying first.

Military enlistement usualli last for 18 months. Xiumin will be coming back this December and D.O. this January. That's why they're not in Obsession.
Suho enlisted last May, but he'll serve longer, because he's under public service which is lighter compared to active soldier. It was due to his previous injuries.
Chen can enlist under reserved soldier, because he's raising a child. If approved he can go home regularly during his service instead of staying in the barracks.

Most of Eco is coming to the age of enlistment. They have to serve 18 or 20 months. For all Korean males it's mandatory Even really famous actors have served and are enlisting by the age of 28-30 . (BTS is trying to get exemption because they think that they are so famous,! crap if EXO can go so can they). In January Xiumin will be getting out, DO will be getting out in January 2021, but Suho (the leader of EXO) enlisted this past May, 24th.
Chen is 28, on Sept 26th, Chanyeol will be 28 Nov, 27th , Baekhyun is already 28,

Ed, all, get it ALL, Korean men 19 - 29 are required by law to serve their country. There are some people who are exempt, but kpop idols are not. EXO members Xiumin, D.O. and Suho are serving their country presently. Xiumin will complete his service in December, D.O. completes his in early 2021. Suho just enlisted earlier this year. He is performing his enlistment as a public service officer due to medical issues that he has. Baekhyun and Chanyeol will enlist in 2021. Unless the law changes or kpop idols are included in the group that’s exempt EXO as a group won’t have all its Korean members until 2025. The length of time they serve depends on the branch of the service they choose. Yes, idols bring a great deal of monetary support to the country, but think about it, do you have all the kpop cd’s or other merch you plan to purchase? Sales of EXO, BTS, Monsta x , and other groups merch aren’t going to stop because a member goes into the military. SHINee has been on hiatus because 3 of the 4 members were in the military. Onew and Key have completed their service and Minho will complete his in early 2021. Taemin has to enlist in 2022 unless he decides to go early. The idols know they’re going to have to serve like every other male. So far all the EXO members have gifted their fans with a beautiful song right before they leave. We were prepared for another one of the vocal line members to leave, but most had anticipated hearing that Baekhyun was enlisting since his birthday comes first. However, I imagine Chen has more reason to want to get it over and done with while his daughter is still a baby. We were all shocked, surprised however you want to say it because the time between his announcement and his planned enlistment date was really short. We all will miss him, but we love him and support his decision. That’s what we are one means.
