- I captured this real-life rendition of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote outside my home office window this past summer. The poor old coyote does eventually give chase to the roadrunner, but not before pausing a moment to relieve herself in the flowerbed! PLEASE NOTE: I RECOMMEND WATCHING WITH SOUND MUTED. I had a bad cold and many viewers have found my breathing distracting. Thanks!

Yes, they can fly but prefer the ground. They use the "flight" to climb in high places, go from hill to hill and escape from predators. They are not like chickens that can not fly. They can fly, yes! Even if you only see them on the ground or gliding. They just prefer the floor!
Yes. They have adapted to the ground when most birds that can fly use this ability as their main advantage. It is one of the most remarkable characteristics of the species. It is only wrong to say that, they can not fly. Say: They can. But they are a brave badass-type of bird who prefers to stay and fight snakes! HAha

Actually, Chuck Jones stole the idea of the Road Runner and Coyote from Rod Scribner, who lived in the Arizona area and had various sketches of the animals.

CJCroen1393 and they can also fly . But what's the most surprising is that coyotes are faster than roadrunners , a roadrunner can run 20 mph while a coyote can run 43 mph although roadrunners would fly away if in danger .

Thanks for posting, when I was a kid, i enjoyed watching the cartoon version...Even in real life, the coyote can never catch the greater roadrunner unless the bird is sick and dying. Good job capturing the moment.

Probably because it is painful to jump down from that height. The coyote looks very thin and ragged. It also seems to have difficulty using its hind limbs. My guess would be it's a very old coyote and can no longer move as it once did.

It's interesting because in reality coyotes are faster than roadrunners, but the birds are probably more agile.

If this was outside MY office, I would have put some food and water out there for a couple of days (far away and in different spots). I would have made a terrible wildlife photographer ;-)
And you'd be reported immediately to the county animal control, who'd come issue your boss at McDonalds a citation. You'd also instantly make enemies of every person in town with a small dog or cat, since coyotes eat them in tremendous numbers. Do you really think that clever little plan will work? Coyotes are not stupid, and he'd simply identify your scent with food and follow your trail back into town, where he'd promptly be shot (legally) dead by the first armed person who saw him. And once again, the cops would want to know why the fuck you're feeding wild coyotes around human habitations.
I don't mean to put too fine a point on it, but maybe you should think less with your uterus and educate yourself more?

Umm, actually.... If they were supposed to be ugly and skinny, people wouldn't bother making fur coats out of them....:/ Same goes for foxes, minks, and other furbearing animals used in farming. Whilst coyotes are mostly hunted and trapped due to being a pest animal, the principal is the same. In order to make a good product, the animal must be healthy. And sickness and stress shows in the fur. I'll be damned if I didn't see any coyote fur around. It's everywhere. But I'll bet this guy isn't one of them. Probably dead and eaten by carrion birds by now. Or in some edgy novice taxidermist's collection as a softmount, probably under the name of henry or morgrimme. One of the two.
Mind you, I can see why you are hostile towards the animal. They are a pest after all. One probably ate your dog or something and now you're pissed. But a part of the eco system nevertheless, and without them we would be royally fucked.

This is my experience with them as well. I've never seen a "healthy looking" coyote that wasn't being illegally fed by somebody. They simply are neither as tough as wolves nor well-fed and content as dogs. They're the lowest rung on the wild dog totem pole, and it shows.
Fun fact: Coyotes can breed with dogs or wolves but only is the coyote is male and the dog/wolf is female. The breed is called a CoyDog when it's Coyote and dog. And coywolf for coyote and wolf

A good video on the relationship between a coyote and a road runner in actual life in contrast to the road runner cartoons from Warner Brothers. A thought for a sequel to this video. If a box labeled Acme Products were in the midst of this scene and the coyote saw that box, some sentences , in the mind of the coyote, could be dubbed in as follows: " I have heard that my cartoon cousin uses Acme products to catch the road runner. Now that I have seen it, what am I actually suppose to do with it?

my dogs take it as a total dis and go ballistic... winding up embarrassed, RR having fluttered into a low branch or on a fence. That cartoon was based on accurate observation of the natural world.
