    Brian, Props to you. As a DIY'er I have often struggled with the concept of blending. This video made it truly understandable for the first time! You are not only an excellent artist with paint -- you are also an exceptional teacher. Thank you.

    The blend did help. Difference in colors are still very visible. Now the front door is different from the back and really off on the bumper typically bumpers are different shade all because plastic. The the sun light hit the car at end is bright once it get real light it’s be more visible. For a D.I.Y would be acceptable.

    Good job as always. Its interesting how you lay down an initial base of clear base but then go over it again before color, and between color coats. If I spray a wetbed, its just one coat and thats it. And even though a wetbed is good practice, i hardly ever do one. I just do first coat of color 100%, 2nd coat 50% color 50% clear base, 3rd coat, 25% color 75% clear base and dust it on for metallic uniformity. Using ppg bases and dbc500 intercoat clear base.
    Keep up the good work.

    I've had this problem aswell. In my case case I sprayed a light grey sealer underneath a dark grey metallic. Same situation as urs where mine painted pannels turned lighter than the rest of the car. I blended and another tip I got was to use the same color but with a darker sealer. And its was a really good match. So I guess in ur case a darker color sealer would have been good and u wouldn't have had to do a second time.

  • @andrewhigdon8346
    @andrewhigdon8346 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m confused. I’ve heard so many different things and even witnessed for myself so many different things with how clearcoat can make or break a paint job. I’ve heard that whatever your panel looks wet, is how it will look after clear coat. I’ve heard and witnessed that clear coat will not “cover” mistakes or “hide” scratches and that the panel will only looks as good after clear as it did before clear. But here you scuffed/sanded the whole hood as an extended blend zone, especially seeing as how it’s one panel and a hood at that, I get it, but you basically scuffed with high grit, then only applied clear coat? And it came out looking great? As an experiment awhile back, I was painting a hood for my Dodge Magnum in its factory Brilliant Black Pearl. I got some runs and used a razor blade to cut those out, and scuffed around the area, and to get it to feather, it ended up being the front quarter of the hood, a sizable area. I had no more black paint, and since the whole thing was an experiment, and at the time was using SprayMax2KGlamour, I just scuffed it a bit finer, went for uniformity, and sprayed the clear over the whole hood, acting like nothing was wrong and the whole hood was just fine, nothing to see here, folks. To my amazement, the scuffed area looked exactly the same as the area that had a nice glossy wet color coat. I thought it was a fluke or an illusion, but a week later it still looked great. So why do we even try so hard for a glossy color coat at all if the clear will just make almost any grit of scuff glossy? What am I missing? Is it just acceptable if the area is in excellent shape, and maybe not cured? Oops, this Acura hood was way past cured. Hmm. What’s the score? If you can clear over scuffed color coat and still get the desired result, then why do we put so much effort into a glossy color coat? I also understand that a scuffed surface will “grab” the clear a.it better, and seeing as how the clear is the finish’s first line of defense against the environment, applying to a surface with deeper grit will help with longevity. But then we paint all the time over 800-1000 grit with clear with no concern of it peeling. What gives?

    @Paint Society quick question Brian, why did you paint the fender including with clear before putting on the car? I think to have closer grade of substrate, but also to use less base coat at the time of blending so as to help avoid runs?

    Brian, I really could use your expertise. I just ordered all House of Kolors sealer, paint, and clear. I had a supposed pro painter paint the car. I had him stop when I saw the sealer. Its patchy, uneven, has sweat bubbles from him sweating on the car, and its tiger stripped. Needless to say, the car is back home. Hes fired. Question is, do I need to wet sand his flaws, and redo the sealer, or can i some how get around reordering my h.o.k sealer, which we both know isnt cheap. Please respond and give me some help. Ive spent 2 yrs working on this car, all to have some hack with good reviews mess it up. Please man, I want this right.

    Very good job! By the way, let's pretend that in 1 year the fender has to be replaced due to a minor accident: is it possible to replace and repaint just the fender, knowing the exact formula of the paint, or, due to UV rays altering the color, you have to blend the paint in the adjacent panels again?
