I relate to Carrie in a very deep way . The community is lucky I didn’t have powers
Point well taken 😢😢
@@peterdavis8471 I’ve let my energy of vengeance go a long time ago . But I think a lot of people from different backgrounds can relate to being bullied by their peers and parents. I hope what I wrote didn’t sound too hateful
@@andreusdewolff no hatred at all I wish I had her powers also it would of gotten me out of a lot of situations 🙏
I am sorry you had to deal with that.
I Never Messed Wit Folk Cause It Ain’t Right With That Being Said Anyone Is Capable Of Anything. Hope All Is Well Bro
I saw this 13 times at the theater. One day I sat through it 3 times in a row (you were allowed to do that back then) and when I went outside I found out it had snowed and my car was half covered. I also had the 8-track tape of the music soundtrack. When I got my first DVD player, the first movies I went out and bought on DVD were "Scanners" and "Carrie."
This movie has some great creepy moments. But it's also heartbreaking. Prom was the first time Carrie ever got to be happy or enjoy anything and even that got ruined. She finally snapped after years of misery and abuse. Her mom was psychotic, her classmates were sadistic, they pushed her way too far.
In the book, Chris's father did demand that the gym teacher (Desjardins in the book, Collins here) be fired, but the principal was prepared. He told the father that if he sued the school over that incident, then the school would countersue on behalf of all the kids Chris had bullied, including one whose toes she'd blown off by putting a firecracker in her shoe. So the family backed off... which Chris interpreted as "giving up," which contributed to her decision to take matters into her own hands.
That's why you need the book for a deeper understanding. Carrie was bullied her whole life so many incidents. She had a miserable life.
There's nothing like a classic. This is the story that Stephen King built his name on
LOVE this original 1976 Carrie!!!
Her Mom WAS r.a. worded for sure, that was the best post movie assessment ever, exactly why people wanted you specifically to watch this movie 😂 Thanks for sharing as always, I love your videos ❤
I wish they would explain why Margaret was the she was.
Kinda like Whoopi Goldberg in that one movie. She was a crazy religious nut and would put that ish on her daughter's.
She wasn't. She and her husband were in a cult and broke away but she was utterly batshit believing that intercourse is sin therefore their marriage should not have it. And then he came back from the roadhouse drunk and they did the deed.
@@fatalrob0t Just watched a reaction to the movie I spoke on previously. Then this comment pops up bringing me back.😁
Your humor India helped me re-watch this thriller with you. This is a classic Steven King horror book and movie. This movie was creepy then and still is ✌🏽
Stephen King once mentioned that he was a bit of a nerd in school, which helped him relate to kids who were bullied or considered different. He based the story of Carrie on a mix of experiences and stories he heard from friends who also faced similar challenges in school, being labeled as "different" by the more popular kids.
And the Geek shall inherit the Earth
And in King's autobiography, Carrie White herself was based on 2 different girls King knew when he was a kid in school. Both were outcasts. Both were dirt-poor. One was ostracized for being an epileptic and having a super religious mother. One was so poor she wore literally the same outfit to school every single day, until after they came back from Christmas Break, she had a brand new one. And she was made fun of instead of complimented. (She wore that new outfit every single day, as well.) In addition to that, her family were VERY odd people. Odd-behavioured, but not all that religious, constantly applying to multiple sweepstakes competitions to try and win things, since they were so poor.
Both girls dropped out before finishing high school. Both died tragically. (The "same outfit" girl killed herself, and the epileptic girl eventually moved out of her mother's house and started renting a small apartment, in which she died when she had a seizure. She lived alone and no one was there to help her after she had a seizure, fell the wrong way, and hit her head.)
@@quentinbarrentine5114😢
In the book tommy dies , it was 2 buckets of blood , Carrie blows up the gas tank from thee school & destroys all fire hydrants in the street so the firemen can't put out the the fire . Kills everyone in town , blows up every gas station , kills her mom by stopping her heart and looks back at Sue and says " Why didn't you just leave me alone ? " and Carrie dies.
Saw this when it came out at age 11. This freaked me out about as much as seeing Exorcist at 8 and more than Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Dawn of the Dead and I Spit On Your Grave as a kid in the 70's.
It is one of the most disturbing movies ever which is what makes it such a classic. Sissy Spacek's performance was amazing too.
YES!!! One of my favourite reactors watching one of my favourite films!!!! xxx
Some notes about the long, uncomfortable shower scene:
1) though it is easy to argue the scene is unnecessary, gross, and bordering on misogynistic, the director’s reasoning for including it was based on the standards for horror films during that time. It was very abnormal for a movie that had nudity to show any of it before at least 20 minutes to a half hour in. That way people could get adjusted to the movie, and anyone who accidentally walks into the wrong theater won’t see anything offensive right as they enter.
The scene was to play the audience’s emotions in both directions: Even at the time, the excessive nudity was to shock people and make them uncomfortable right at the start. But the sexuality on display is there so that any audience member who finds the scene exciting to have the moment ruined by the arrival of her period.
I think it’s interesting filmmaking, and also gross and unnecessary. Both are true imo.
2) Nancy Allen (the main bully girl), though she had agreed during pre-production to do full frontal nudity, became very nervous on set when she had to undress, and so did many of the other women there. But Nancy Allen has also gone on record that when she saw the movie finally, she thought the scene was very beautiful, didn’t find it perverted, and called it a celebration of their bodies rather than tasteless exploitation. However, we can acknowledge her bias as she later went on to marry the director Brian De Palma for around 5 years
3) Sissy Spacek who played Carrie, much like the other actresses, was very uncomfortable to do full frontal nudity with the camera crew in the shower-set with her. Her husband, Jack Fisk, who was working on the movie as a set-decorator, made her feel comfortable by standing in the shower with her and I believe holding her hand out of frame. It was even him who placed the blood on her body to run down her leg.
and while it’s not related to the shower scene, I also want to mention that when the gym teacher is scolding the girls in the gymnasium, we can see Sue starting to well-up with tears in her eyes. Brian De Palma, having never worked with actress Amy Irving before, had the actress playing the gym teacher (Betty Buckley) insult her from the other side of the camera to get her genuinely emotional.
But as Amy Irving said herself, Brian didn’t realize that all he needed to do was ask her to cry because she could do it on command, but instead Betty Buckley hurled insults at her until she cried. In her own words: “So I’m not crying because I feel bad for anything I’ve done, I’m crying because Betty’s saying all these terrible things to me!”
Please look up the meaning of word 'misogynistic'.
Having women appear beautiful, graceful and delicate alongside a beautiful composition that is every bit a elegant, is probably the furthest you could get from misogny.
It would be misogyny if the shots were intrusive and zoomed in on body parts whilst the actresses were unaware they were being filmed.
Clearly you dislike or have a problem with female nudity. Funnily enough, when people have showers, they tend to take their clothes off, even women.
The fact you don't like seeing female bits is irrelevant and your problem, but you cannot for one second, try and pretend it is in any way misogynistic.
Unfortunately, 'misogyny' is yet another word (like 'racist', 'fascist' and 'bigot') that people who don't even know it's meaning, tend to hurl at others thinking it trumps all else and wins an argument.
Please learn English words if you're going to use them.
Spacek was nervous about something she had already done in a previous film?
There are different types of horror within the genre. The more of them you watch youll start noticing. I can see why you wouldn't see it as traditionally scary. This is more internal horror rather then external. Its the atmospheric tone with the intention to make you feel unforgettable. Which in reality is what the purpose of a horror movie is supposed to do. Its also more a horror about the high school experience. Its still one of the creepiest movies ever made if you really look into everything as a whole. Stephen King always considered it to be his dark version of Cinderella.
24:44 im cryinggg
I watch Carrie every October. Sissy Spacek really makes one believe that she is a frightened teenager. She went on to play country singer Loretta Lynn in the bio movie Coal Miner’s Daughter for which Sissy won an Oscar. The very first horror movie that I saw was Poltergeist.
I get why you said it wasn't really scary, but more traumatizing. It is a psychological thriller that keeps you on edge about what will or could happen. It may take some time to appreciate it fully or you may just not like it and that's okay. That said, it has become a horror/thriller classic that has been remade and even has had a sequel. Again, the true horror is human nature and what people can be pushed to when things are taken too far. If it is not for you, that's completely okay, but I also understand why people still "love" this movie to this day.
Many of us girls had a mad crush on Tommy. He later starred in The Return of Perry Mason made for TV movies. His mom played Perry Mason’s assistant in all his shows all the way back to the originals.
And he , William Katt, had his own show THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO(1981) 3 seaons
@angelcharms7297 and theme song was taken by George Costanza on Seinfeld. Still cracks me up.
I would not let other students bully me at all in the 70s school bullies used to bully kids like Carrie this is cruel and vicious
You have such a beautiful soul! I’ve been wondering where you been!! I also was a bit traumatized watching this movie and was so emotional with how heartbreaking Carrie is as a character!! You’re my fave solo reactor! Best emotions and also sooo hilarious!! 💜💜
They treated Carrie terribly.😢
my favorite october movie 😍 and my favorite fierce empath mama reacting. it’s my lucky day! 😊
"THEY PUT ARROWS IN JESUS LIKE 4 NAILS WASN'T ENOUGH." I'm cackling. lmao
Some teachers could get creative with discipline. In the '60s I saw a teacher calmly lecturing a student - while holding him against the wall with one hand, a foot off the ground. No violence and no threats, but it got everyone's attention.
That's a young young John Travolta in the "Bad Boy" role.
Carrie was disturbing. Honestly, all films based on Stephen King's novels are more disturbing than scary. I was 19, when this was the theaters and was fascinated by telekinesis, psychokinesis, and ESP. I did a lot of research and presented it in class during freshman year in college (prior to the film). I found the subject fascinating! FYI the guy who played Chris' boyfriend, the one you said was handsome, is a very young John Travolta! Also, Carrie is Oscar Winner Sissy Spacek (great films Coal Miners Daughter, The Help and do many others).
You are right. This is a Tragedy 🎭
And disturbing is the perfect word to describe this movie. Enjoyed your reaction 😊
That was St. Sebastian the statue that looked like Jesus with the arrows in his body.
The English teacher was being sarcastic to Carrie.
Carrie is telekinetic. She has telekinesis.
Tommy wasn't flirting with Norma, the girl with the red baseball cap and they didn't date each other.
Tommy did defend Carrie by saying "You suck." under his breath about the English teacher for making fun of Carrie.
I think that Tommy genuinely liked Carrie.
I don't think that Tommy was aware of Carrie being bullied.
I believe that it was Carrie was the one who made the house collapse.
This movie is very tragic and sad because Carrie didn't have a sanctuary because she was bullied at home and at school. Prom or no prom Carrie's mother Mrs. White was going to try to kill Carrie because she believed Carrie was Satan's spawn and the result of her "sin". The innocent people who deserved to survive Carrie's wrath are Tommy and Ms. Collins and anyone else who didn't laugh at Carrie.
I believe that Carrie committed suicide by making her house collapse because she knew that she couldn't really use self defense as her alibi because she knew that the police wouldn't believe that she used her telekinesis to defend herself because her mother was trying to kill her. And Carrie knew that she couldn't move to another town because her reputation would precede her.
The tragedy of this movie is that Carrie just wanted to live a normal life and grow up like her peers but she wasn't allowed to. Her bullies (her mother and her female schoolmates) tried and did rain on her parade.
I couldn't figure out who Tommy was speaking about when he said you suck. I also didn't catch on that the English teacher was making fun of Carrie.
It took me a while to figure out that the statue in the kitchen closet was actually St Sebastian.
Love you automatically thought this was Carrie's first period, vs some reactors who thought Carrie was mentally challenged.
Love whining about things that didn't happen.
Yes we were different. A lot of us was bullied in school and then at home too. Her mother was a religious fanatic. This movie was one of the greats. Traumatizing and uncomfortable is the base of horror. Those moments that add up before the gore, that get under your skin and make you feel something. In the great films you become engrossed in the character and feel deeply for them even though you know these are actors in a film. This movie sucked you in and played upon your deep empathy for carries abused life from every angle, then it flips to a vigilante murderous rage that claims everyone in sight, the good (the teacher) and the bad (the bullies) which is quite conflicting because you want her to have revenge but to kill, then to kill even those not involved in traumatizing her is kinda monsterous. Gen X didnt always need to see the gore, the psychological mind fuk was enough for us to identify with because our world was not the kindest to kids back then so we could relate.
When movie was made, the drinking age was 18
I don't know. I think it was 21 but some states it was 18. I think Wisconsin was 18. Carrie takes place in CA I assume. I know the passenger could drink during this time. I would drive so my dad could drink beer all day and I didn't have a license yet.
The actress who played Carrie was only 18-19 at the time of this movie , and she wanted to do all her stunts. Even at the end , the hand that pops out of the grave is hers. ✋️
@guitarman8462 Sissy Spacek was 27, she was definitely not a teenager
She was in her mid 20s, her husband was the art designer lol
The internet that you use for TH-cam also works for Google/IMDb/wikipedia, especially for easily looked up information like this. Hint hint.
You're right, this was disturbing, but much better than gore
I was 8 years old when i saw this at the theater.
Regarding the drinking age: After Prohibition was repealed in the 1930s, 21 became the drinking age in most of the country. After the voting age was lowered to 18 during the Vietnam War, around 30 states gradually lowered the drinking age, but then in the 80s it reverted back to 21 for all the states.
I was a teenager in the 70s and the drinking age was 21 in California. In fact, it has always been 21 for that state.
The movie doesn't mention where it takes place, but interestingly the school scenes were shot at my older sister's junior high school in Hermosa Beach, California. The school was known as Pier Avenue School back then, and it's still weird for me to see the same buildings that I used to hang around at during the summer with my sister.
I remember the drinking age being 18 or 19 growing up in Wisconsin
Cool 😎! Thanks for the info!
@@indiatasticYup. The drinking age was moved up to 21 again because of teenagers being involved in drunk-driving fatalities. Mother's Against Drunk Driving had a lot to do with that.
Fun fact: That final jump scare where her hands pops out and grabs Sue's arm would later inspire the ending jump scare in Friday the 13th four years later.
Yup.
The people were not laughing at Carrie except for Norma. The others were appalled but in Carrie's mind she pictured everyone laughing at her. She heard her mom's voice, "They're all going to laugh at you."
Gurrrrl she gave her mom the round-edge Butter Knife too
Another great reaction. You’re hilarious. 😊👏👏
This is my favorite Stephen King movie! I can totally relate to Carrie. I was bullied really badly by a bunch of girls, I just wish I had psychic powers lol.
She Wasn't Psychic Lmfao She had Telekinesis Powers
Telekinesis Powers Not Psychic Lmfao
@@DianeRandle-m5u thank you lol
A lot of us saw this movie on tv as children. I don't think I was even 7 yrs old when I first saw it. It always came on and many of our parents had the book. Imo the entire town was cursed/evil and Carrie was a demon/angel of destruction. She could not exist in the real world w her temperament and those powers in any way possible. She came to take all those souls back to hell.
Enjoyed your reaction. Nobody ever mentions Carrie part 2 Rage. I think it's worth watching. Best of luck to you.
Classic!
This was Stephen Kings first novel. He almost threw it away ( didn't want it published ) but his wife said to get it published bc it was good.
I agree, it was very disturbing. I was bullied too (not in the same way, obviously), so I could relate.
I actually didn't see Carrie in the movie theatres, I watched it when it was broadcast on network TV, but they had to heavily edit the shower scene for TV to the point where I wasn't sure what was going on. My folks had told me the facts of life by then, but I still had no clue what a period would look like, and I couldn't imagine how or when it would happen. I happened to eat lunch with girls at school (they were the only ones who were nice to me and didn't bully), so I mentioned it to them and they REALLY didn't want to talk about it and I didn't get why, because my mother was very open and honest about it. But yeah, very disturbing and sad.
Carrie is absolutely NOT a horror film. It’s a tragedy through and through.
"Disturbing" yep. I knew a few kids with "Carrie's mom" growing up in JW.
I love this movie
The quintessential Going Postal movie. Love this movie and the book too
Yeah, back in the '70's teachers can open up a can of whup azz on students and there wasn't anybody going to jail. I saw this movie back when it came out. I was 7 years old. Carrie's mom freaked me out.
As I'm always saying that's not Jesus it's St Sebastian (google image him)🎩
I never knew that
Carrie's mom wasn't using the Bible. Carrie's parents were once in a cult. Sue and Tommy wanted to do something nice for Carrie. Tommy died when the bucket hit his head. It was heavier than we see it in the film and it came from a high distance.
I watched this in the 80's as a kid, the mum freaked me out more than Carrie. I never found this scary, just had a feeling of irritation & being agitated by the actions of her classmates!
Steven King said he based Carrie on two girls that he knew in high school. I think that makes this that much more interesting.
Gurl this is a classic
Carrie is one of my favorite horror movies. I like the psychological horror movies. I like the slow build up to something crazy. If you like that type of movie another good one is Rosemary's baby.
Bullying wasn't a topic of discussion in mainstream culture back then, nor was religious extremism. The portrayal of the trauma was soo well thought out, everyone just got - often for the first time - just how destructive it can be. Oh, yeah, if you see it happen , maybe do something about before a lot of people get hurt.
Check out the movies Candyman(1992), Creepshow(1982), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(1974), and The Exorcist(1973).
I wish Carrie could have lived. She deserved to survive and be happy but then after going through all that I don't know how a person could ever live a normal life.
Every rewatch I "fix" it lol I want justice for Carrie so bad.
You were talking about the sprinklers. Yes they had sprinklers back then.
I'm glad you weren't in the cinema when I watched it 🙂
In the book Carrie destroys most of the town.
Yeah they did not have the budget or tech back then. If they had done the remake better it could have been more like the book.
This is a horror classic!
Watched this for the first time today
This isn’t horror, it’s sociology lol
#carrieWasjustified lol
The commentary on the obsession with womens bodies & sexuality was what stood out for me. And how women will tear down each other
I *LOVE* this movie. Top 3 for me. Carrie's performance is great, but her mom steals the whole movie for me.
Poor Carrie...she definitely fell for Tommy, and I do get the impression that he actually started to like her, too.
The statue was actually St. Sebastian.
I like the movie. It is a sad movie because she is bullied in school and abused at home.
They were not ready for Carrie that’s for sure! Her mama and the school bullies done drove that girl crazy. Fix it Jesus!
Yeah, back in the 70s, the teachers were allowed to lay a hand on you if you back talked to them. Paddling was in full use, also!
Funny. When I started junior high in 1999, I thought paddling was still a thing if kids acted out.
My sophomore math teacher used to throw chalk board erasers at the students for talking too much.
Yup.
I wonder if you’ll react to Cujo (1983)
😱
I generally don't watch horror movies past the 80's. The horror movies of today can't hold a candle to those old movies. My library is mostly made up of old classics.

"Carrie."
I'm not sure you really understood this. 🤔
What "misunderstanding" do you feel was shown? 🦙
I just question why Tommy just went along with it and didn't question it. I just question why Sue would offer up her boyfriend and the give up the prom.
Tommy loved Sue until the bucket took him but he was also falling in love with Carrie
People were hit in schools!!
Nothing happened to teachers
It was a law
I liked the 2013 version of Carrie better honestly.
Girl if you don't like blood then you don't want no part of this movie!
You need to check out the movie Amityville horror the original from 1979 it is based on a true story. If you want a scary movie you need to react to this one.
1. Stephen King threw this book away, but his wife took it out and told him to send it in. It's the first one that sold to a legitimate publisher that wasn't adult pulp and the first to be adapted into a movie.
2. Back then teachers were allowed to strike a student if warranted. (Class of 1979)
3. Sissy and Piper Laurie were both nominated for Acadamy Awards, but horror didn't get love back then. 😭😭
4. Norma/PJ Soles, As long as I have a face....😝😈 (she has to ace that ballcap)
5. Sue, Tommy and Miss Collins really were trying to help Carrie. I read the book.
6. If Billy's a high school student, so am I.
7. Margaret's crucifixion pose is the same as the St. Sabastian statue.
8. In the book half the town burns. No budget for that here
9. The only thing good in the second LOSER remake is Carrie/Chloe Grace Moretz could get it.
(King remakes are 0/10) Including "IT" and "The Stand"
Farmer John's is gone now
India, didn't you watch The Help? Carrie is ole girls Mom, that she throws in the nursing home.

Hello 🙋🏻♂️👋🏻
Be careful with explicit sexual scenes, Nudity and sex, Because I am very worried that they can delete the video or suspend your TH-cam channel, Also the explicit sexual scenes Nude in this movie today are reprehensible and sexualize women 😢
I hope to hear your opinion and response on this topic 🙏🏻❤️
@Gonzalo_Almendra What “explicit sexual scenes”? There’s no such thing in this movie. Yes there’s a lot of nudity in the one opening scene but absolutely nothing sexual happening. And if nudity is so “reprehensible” then would you say the same thing about porn? You sound like Carrie’s mother.
@@albertjimeno5315 But there are still explicit sexual scenes that are reprehensible today and sexualizing women is disrespectful towards women
Sorry but I don’t agree with you because in such cases the women chose to be in the movie. We’ll have to agree to disagree. But CARRIE literally doesn’t have any “explicit sexual scenes,” so maybe you just haven’t seen the movie in full and are presuming it does. But also I see you have a negative view on sexuality saying it’s “reprehensible.” That’s your religious or moral views and not mine.
@@Gonzalo_Almendrawhat "explicit sex scenes" were in the film currently being discussed? Kinda danced around that one, and quite obviously.
