I like many songs by Sufjan, yet don't consider myself a fan of him. Actually, I had to relisten the soundtrack after watching the movie cause his songs didn't totally fit in it at first sight. Then they came actuallly engaged as I listened to them and rewatched the film.

Idk anything about Italy, but I never thought of it as bad. This isn’t me saying you’re lying, I believe you, I’m just surprised. The scenery is gorgeous though, so I think that’s why I figured it’s a good place. There are probably even worse places that look even more beautiful.
I love this movie. I love how oliver found his true love in marriage, and how Elio's dad is hiring a female apprentice that Elio might end up with or continue his love affair with Marzia. And the "more than friendship " affair of Oliver and Elio is amazing worth to be cherished secretly. A period in man's life that they go crazy and get back on track. The scenes are so naturally coming. Elio just found his best friend a more than best friend.
That is a very different take on this bitter sweet story. There was nothing crazy or off track about them falling in love. It broke Elio's heart to learn Oliver was getting married. He appreciated the experience and found some peace but I don't think he's happy it ended. And I doubt we're supposed to assume Elio will end up with the next apprentice. It's not like he has a thing for apprentices. And I believe the best friend he found was Marzia. Oliver and Elio's affair was only a phase because life isn't fair.
