- Long Tail keyword strategy on Etsy is sadly misunderstood. If you don't understand how long tail keyword data is collected, you won't be able to use them effectively, and you'll probably drive yourself crazy trying to be too matchy-matchy.

Very interesting, I like how you use anchor keywords and break them down from there. I guess I’m not breaking down my anchor keywords enough and instead putting my listings under high competition keywords even though I try to be specific. Thank you for sharing this I always learn something from you!

I like this video a lot. Thank you thank you. I use Marmalead but all of the long tail keywords that best describe my listings have good search, lie competition but the engagement is always red and registers at on a number of 25 so I have been hesitant to use these terms because the engagement is just so low.

Split it between two tags that read in sequence.

Do you have any advice for how to maintain long-tail keyword results when you sell one-of-a-kind pieces?
The whole point of the long tail keywords is to be found for unique searches, so repetition won't be as much of a factor.

let's say you write in your tags (wafer paper) (with pink roses), would you then do another tag like (transparent wafer paper) or would you not repeat "wafer paper" ever again? ahhhh so many rules - you mentioned the research is much less complicated than people make it seem, but then pulled out a 75-word spreadsheet that was semi verified by SEO tools😅❤️
and if you have more time, I'm in the clothing niche. Example: (women's mountain) (shirt with stars) (boho moon and sun) (celestial shirt) (for her best friend), am I supposed to not repeat the word shirt or include it at all since it would be in the shirt category?
I would include shirt if it’s in an exact word order match keyword that you want to send a stronger signal for, but you don’t HAVE to. For the wafer paper thing, i would write wafer paper with pink roses, then the other tags would be things like “transparent edible” “printed cake decorating” or whatever. They all go with wafer paper to make longer words, but since i already used it once, and the longer words would have less competition, i don’t need the word order match, so i don’t need to repeat wafer paper again.

if im selling in one niche just one product lets say christian tshirts so you get those 25 words and use them in all the listings with different orders as longtail keywords?
You can, but that would be really limiting. It's better to keep finding more keywords to try out so that you can see what works best. Then take those and use them as a starting point to find more.

That was the search analytics beta, it's in the marketing tab on your shop dashboard.
I would like to be found for "mens wool kippah" or "mens wool kippot". Am I figuring it right that 'wool kippah' or 'mens kippah', et al, get my listings found, as well as the longer phrasing? And that all I need are the longer phrases in my tags, Etsy pulls them apart to get the shorter phrases.
With a lack of descriptive words (other than color, fiber content, size or gender), I feel stuck.
If I'm doing this right...am I on the right track?
I know the niche is fairly tiny (thank the Maker, I hated making jewelry in school, lol!).
If the field is small, which I would suspect it is, you can just use whatever makes sense and you'll be found for it.
When you say “other things come into play” in regards to ranks, is that seller stats?

Yes I did, I went through the stats for that listing and pulled out everything that had the words "wafer paper" in it. That's what the spreadsheet that I show in the video was.
So could short tail keywords lead to a lot of visits and fewer sales? Because if that’s the case then maybe my listings need more long tail words.
Possibly, but you don’t have to think of the long tails yourself.
Hello, a customer purchased an item and I already by etsy shipping. But she asked for the order to be cancelled. I cancelled. (does etsy refund the shipping I paid or give me credit for it? Thank you.
If you didn’t ship the package you can ask for a refund for the unused label, it should be in the order itself in the shipping section. Look from something that says “refund label “

Super helpful video. I am still struggling to get my head around SEO, it hasn't quite clicked yet, but this video has helped my understanding greatly. In fact, all your videos are helping. My sales come through things other than Etsy search, so my SEO must be rubbish 😂 Just to clarify in my head, apologies for dimness, do we come up with long tail keywords and then just split them up to fit in the tags? Also, you mentioned 'send a little traffic yourself', how do we do that? How long does it usually take before I start noticing any traffic changes? I am patient, just curious.
It's hard to say, but you should start seeing longer keywords in your stats pretty quickly, like within a few days to a week.

Try it from desktop, not the app if you were using the app. Sometimes they don’t come through
long-tail keywords don't always fit in one tag box so I stretch them out into 2 tag boxes. Is this ok?

So basically in your tags you should start with one short tail keyword and expand upon it? Also, if you use the same keyword for different listings won't they be competing against each other?
That's pretty much it. And you don't compete with yourself in the sense of being limited to how many listings can show up for that keyword, because Etsy doesn't have those limits in place. You can appear multiple times on a single search result page for the same keyword.

I was never good at SEO. Everything sounds so foreign to me. Tags, keywords, long tail short tail. I am ready to pull out my hair. Maybe selling online is something I shouldn't be doing. I enjoy your videos, but every time I think I have it figured out, Marmalead messes me up.
Don’t rely on the tools too much. On Etsy tags are keywords, so it’s not as complicated as people make it out to be.
