Gear Loadout for Solo Backpacking with 2 Dogs | What I'm taking for 3 days & 2 nights with my dogs

  • Gear loadout! I'll show you my gear loadout for 3 days and 2 nights in the Deseret Peak Wilderness with my two huskies. The final weight came in a little heavy, but I am hauling gear for me and two 50 lb dogs, so I think it's still alright. I'll probably be able to reduce our overall gear load as we take more trips with just the 3 of us and refine things.

    I'd love to know what gear you take on your solo trips and/or when you bring the dogs along! I'm always trying to refine my gear and make sure I'm taking exactly what I need and nothing more or less.
    We completed the trip that this was packed for from May 26-28, 2021 and made a full video of the trip. It was amazing! I'll leave al ink to the video in the description! Thanks for watching!

      Thanks, Buckley! I'm still impressed by your loadout, and that you got everything (+ the drone!) into your REI flash. I might have to try a solo without the dogs to see how I much lighter I can get without their gear. But you know Luna and Kya would be a little upset! 🤣
      Thanks for watching, man!

      I thought the same thing when I first heard the idea! I’m still trying to figure out the right inflation for it to work. I didn’t quite get it right on my trip that this load out was for. I think I may take one inflatable and one non-inflatable next time. Looks like you go on some great adventures as well! Looking forward to seeing where you go next! Thanks for watching!

      @@DoseofDirt Right on man thanks! I’m definitely going to try it out on my next hike, I also like the idea of one inflatable and one non- inflatable will have to try both ways. Just like everything else in hiking you have to “fine tune” to your likings. 👍🏼

    Thats funny i take 2 pillows aswell. One is the decathlon helium and the second if non inflatable EMS drool pillow. They work fairly well together. Anything to bring you closer to your house pillow without taking up too much space in your pack! Nice kit man! Hike on!

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to check out a non inflatable pillow. I think 2 is the way to go, but 2 inflatables wasn't quite as awesome as I'd hoped. I think a non-inflatable on top of an inflatable will be perfect though! The EMS drool looks affordable, so maybe that's the one I'll get!

      @@DoseofDirt sure. Jeah I bet the need a lot of running time. Glad you take them out a lot. Hate people having their huskys in a small flat all day only taking them for a small walk in the evening.

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! We knew what we were getting into when we brought huskies into our family! We trail run 2-3 times a week, hike 2-3 times a week, and go for a long walk on the days we don't do either of those things. They love it! But with summer coming we are having to get up earlier and earlier to make sure Luna (black husky with TONS of fur) doesn't overheat.

    I take it you guys don't have to worry about bears over there eh? On the food equipment, it's just noticeable when you're talking about rodents and protection from rain. Over here, the discussion starts, and ends, with bears. If you can keep the bear out of it, nothing else will get in it either. That is a super serious powerbank. How do you handle getting it sunshine while you're out on the trail? Attach it outside your pack somewhere? What's that pack going to weigh in at?

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bears don't seem to be super common here (but Black Bears are definitely around). I do always double ziploc, then rodent sack, then dry bag so scent is kept down pretty well. And then hang from a tree. But bear canisters don't seem to be necessary here where I am. I am planning to get a bear cannister eventually and use that, but for now just triple bagging and hanging in a tree.
      For the powerbank. I'll just leave it on a rock when I get to camp, but it tents to last through a 3-4 day trip without the need to charge. I am planning to attach some cord so I can hang it on the outside of my pack at some point, but so far haven't needed to.
      Pack came in at a heavy 40 lbs! 🤣 Looking forward to when the pups can start hauling some of their own gear! 🤣
      Thanks for watching!
